Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

Congrats, looks like you finally got your TV. Oct 2013 means its fresh out of factory. I am still waiting for mine to come in, should take another 10 odd days. Meanwhile i am looking for a table to keep the TV on. Don't know how good the wall mount will be. Has anyone wall mounted this beast, please share how the wall mount is, is it move able adjustable. Any pics of the same would be great.

Also let me know what firmware your TV originally came with.

Cheers and enjoy your purchase.

Hi All,

Finally I figured out how to check the usage hours on 64F8500 and I checked the usage hours on my old TV (the one which I am going to return) just now. I am shocked, the TV is used for 18460 minutes ie. 307 hours. I would have used around 15 hours since I got it on last friday, so the TV was used by some one else for around 290 hours. This is absolute cheating by the dealer and I really want to do something which will make the dealer understand the pain a customer goes through!

Below is the process:

A. Borrow a Samsung remote from your neighbour :)
B. Switch off your TV using your remote, i.e. put it in stand by mode
C. Press the below keys in quick succession- Info, Menu, Mute, Power
D. The TV will switch on and the service menu will appear on the screen.
E. Use the down arrow button till you come to 'SVC'
F. Use the right arrow button and the 'SVC Menu' will open
G. Use the down arrow button till you come to 'SVC Info', you will also see a '0' next to SVC Info.
H. Use the right arrow button now and the 'SVC Info' screen will open.

The below options were seen on my screen:

1. Model Code: PS64F8500
2. Serial Number- You will see the serial no. of your TV
3. Pre Software Version: Fail
4. Software Version:T-FXPUABC-1105.4
4. Panel Display Time: 18460 min
5. Last Mode (Connection)- ATV
6. Pairing: 3D Glasses: O, 11' Remote : X, 12' Smart Contr
7. SmartHub Used: Fail
8. Watchdog Count: 0

(Serial number 4 was used twice as mentioned above)

I: Switch off the TV using the remote power off button

That's it, simple :) hope this helps :)

Do not use volume buttons or any other buttons apart from the ones mentioned above.

I will check my new replacement TV's usage hours after it is installed tomorrow.

I have been doing loads of research since last Friday and I am happy I was finally able to check the usage hours.

I will also post screen shots when I get time during this weekend.

Many thanks to Mr. Krishnarao (user id- krishnaraog) for sharing the process earlier.

Cheers, Ravi

Saw couple of remotes on ebay for samsung , any idea which one will work best.
Will this particular model work with the 64" F8500.

users who have used the standard remote, please let me know which model works best as there are plenty on Ebay.in
Found the remote model no SAMSUNG AA59-00784C. It's not available locally on ebay. I am looking for the same.

Also is anyone using the soundbar , how is the experience. Is it worth to use the same or better to sell it off and recover some money.

Last year's E series remote is the right one as it has a 'smart' button. It costs 850 rs as per the svc center guys.

You can call up the service centers (check Samsung website for addresses) and they will order one for you (in case they don't have one ready).

Good going Ravi.

Hi Shaiju,

Did your TV come with a 6 amp plug ? My old TV had a 15 amp plug and the new one has a 6 amp plug. I am really worried as the diff is huge.

I plugged in my new TV using the 6 amp plug it came with and it is working fine.

The TV looks new with protective wraps on the bazels and also on the bottom where the stand is fixed. Installation screen appeared when I switched on and I also updated the firmware to 1110. Shall check usage hours today.

Many thanks for all your suggestions and most importantly starting this wonderful thread.

Cheers, Ravi

My TV was installed last night and I checked the usage hours this morning and the usage hours show 130 minutes. I watched the TV for around 2 hours last night and the usage hours match. So finally the dealer kept his promise.

Surprisingly the Service Menu has 'Date of Purchase' field and it showed as 15th Nov 2013 which is today's date ! I did not understand this!!

Cheers, Ravi

Enjoy your purchase , at the end of the day its just a tv. If you happy with the piece you got work towards breaking it in and finally calibration it to get that pristine picture quality. cheers

So everyone has updated to the latest firmware. How is the PQ, any improvement the new firmware brings for the PQ.

My panel has done over 250 hours. The PQ is nice. What settings are you running shaiju ?

I have updated mine too, PQ is excellent and I am very happy with the purchase :) I watched Avatar in 3D and I was thrilled, wife loved the PQ quality and the 3D effects. Surprisingly both of us did not find it tiring on the eyes, I was worried that Active 3D strains the eyes but this TV did not. I purchased 3 more 3D blu ray discs on Sunday, Tron, Cirque Du Soleil and John Carter. I also have Hugo, Life of Pi & Jurassic Park 3 D movies and I plan to watch them this weekend. In the 3D mode I could not stretch the picture to 'screen fit' and I have to postpone watching some of these movies by few months.

I also upgraded to Tata Sky HD and the SD channels look far better now, probably the HDMI cable does the magic ! I did not expect any change in picture quality in SD Channels.

Hi All,

I'm facing a strange problem with my 64F8500.. Many times when I try watching an AVI or MKV file from the USB it gives me a message saying the file cannot be played. However, after powering off and on again, the file will play. Has anyone else faced this issue?

I am on the latest firmware from the Samsung India site 1111.2

I am on 1110.3 firmware and when I check for firmware updates, I get a message saying that the firmware is update ! I am not able to update to 1111. I request other owners to confirm the firmware version they are on !

Well there are plenty of firmwares out there, on avsforum i see users are visiting different geo cites and updating firmware for their sets. Most of them are on 1113 and some have upgraded to the latest 1114.

Also a quick question for those who have already got the TV set up. Have you got it wall mounted or kept on a entertainment unit or table.
Just wanted to know whats the width of the tv with the stand on. Is it really around 5 feet as then i would need a pretty long table to keep the same.

Hi Dushie,

I have mine on stand mount. The stand width is 5ft and depth is just over 1ft. At 36kg you will need a sturdy unit. The pics on the first 2 pages will give you a rough idea.

Thanks, i got one in resale, which is very sturdy to use it is 5.5 feet in length. So i would be able to put the tv on the same. Another question did the wall mount come with the TV. when i got my previous 58" plasma they got the wall mount along with the same and i kept it with me. Also i am trying to see if i can put my center channel speaker somewhere near.
