Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

Ravi, you need a standard button remote to check the hours of usage. The touch pad remote will not help. I did not check the usage since it was a single piece just delivered to the dealer for stock and I picked it up immediately while it was in transit to their warehouse. I got it delivered in 2 hours and installed same day.

I did not take unboxing pics but surely the bezel had a sticker with the tv features listed. Plus the bottom had thick plastic that the installation guys forgot to remove before attaching the base stand. I had to forcibly pull it out. So yes, there must be plastic somewhere on the bezel. Why don't you look for instruction or installation manual. They usually mention to remove plastic. Another easy way is to check if the accessories like remote and 3D glasses come in proper sealed plastic or box. They should not be tampered. If the guys are adamant then ask the Samsung demo guy to get a standard remote so you can check. If you can get hold of one yourself then better but don't be overtly curious and make uninformed changes.

Also buzz around with like a bee when the installation guys visit. This tv is huge. The base stand is unusual and maybe confusing to attach. The tv should be face flat on a clean, strong surface while attaching the stand. I assume you will stand mount it.

All the best.

Many thanks Shaiju, thanks for all the inputs, I think the bottom plastic sheet will give a clear picture, will check during the installation. I will check with the Samsung Service Center guys and will buy a last year's remote before the installation is done.

Many thanks :)

Ravi

Thank you. The TV was delivered last night and I shall get it installed on Saturday. I have checked the smart remote and it has Menu, Mute and Power buttons, the 'Info' button is missing, is there any way I can check the usage hours using the smart remote? Has any of the existing owners tried this using the smart remote?

If I manage to get a Samsung TV old remote (probably one of the last years models) will I be able to check the usage hours on the F8500 ? please advise.

Also I request your inputs on my below queries:

1. I have a strong feeling that the unit is a demo model as the mfg date says-July 2013, this model was always availble on 'order only' and i doubt if any delears have July models now !

I would request the recent purchasers to let me know the mfg date printed on their TV box.

2. Does the bazel come with a protective polythene wrap which is normally peeled off once the TV is installed? I saw one demo piece in the showroom with the protective peel off wrap.

My TV does not have one and hence checking on this.

3. Are there any other ways to know if my Samsumg F8500 is a demo/ used piece? I have checked the 'Checklist to avoid demo piece thread' but did not find any specific info about the F8500 model.

Regards, Ravi

I got delivery of my TV on 30th Oct and the Date on Box shows Oct 2013. It was a new piece and doesn't look it ever opened before based on the packaging. All the accessories are in proper places. If it is opened and repacked, showroom guys may not be able to keep it the sameway.

Polythene wrap is around the bazel and TV feature sticker is on top left corner on the polythene wrap.

I have used my 4 year old Samsung 6 series LCD TV remote to check the usage hours. Any Samsung TV remote should work, including this year models remote, which has all the above buttons. Try if any of your neighbors have a Samsung TV.

Hi All,

After months of research I purchased the 64 inches plasma yesterday. I got a great deal, 1.70 L including the sound bar. I have not opted for the sound bar and I got a further discount of 8K, so I ended up paying 1.62 L, the TV will be delivered today. If any one is genuinely interested buying the TV in Hyderabad please get in touch with me and I'll share the contact details of the person who got me this deal.

I would request the owners in this forum to confirm if the usage hours code works (Mute, 7, 3, 7, OK) and of any of you have checked it on your TV!

I have decided to buy a 3 years extended warranty once the TV is installed.

I still have the option of picking up the sound bar by paying 8K. Please advise if it is worth spending.

I also got a 51F5500 for a friend of mine for 65K including the free blue ray player. I think he also got it for a steal !

Thanks to all the members in this forum for their inputs/ feedback on the TV, your inputs have greatly helped me in taking a decision.

Regards.

Awesome price, you have got me motivated to close the deal and pick this set up. Last 2 days left for Diwali offer, let me go on a hunt and see if i am able to nail down the price locally here. If i am , will pick up the set, if not will drop the idea and probably go for the 51F5500.

Congrats on your purchase, enjoy.

Hi All,

My worst fears came true :( the set is a used/ demo piece.

1. No protective polythene wraps on the bazel and on the bottom of the TV where the stand is fixed.

2. Scratch marks near the connectors, looks like the cables were fixed and removed few times.

3. When I switched ON the TV, the set up menu / start up screens did not appear, the TV switched ON directly (without the remote) in HDMI mode. There was also a message on the screen which said the camera is not ON and hence cannot be functional.

4. Lot of finger prints on the screens and the bazel.

I immediately called the dealer and explained him, he wanted to speak to the Samsung Installation technician to check and the technician confirmed all the above points. The dealer agreed to replace the TV, he asked me to use the existing TV till he delivers a new piece.

I wrote all the above points on the 'Installation form' which the technician brought and also spoke to the Service center manager. He confirmed that he will mention all the points in his records which will be shared with Samsung.

I have reduced the cell lighting, contrast and brightness to the recommended levels and watched the TV for around 30 minutes. I watched 'Life of Pi' in 3D for 5 minutes and it was a mind blowing experience. Picture quality is amazing, no flicker, cross talk at all (absolutely free of flicker/ cross talk) and the 3D experience was so thrilling. Wife loved it as well.

Most of the channels we watch (Telugu and movie channels) have black bars and I am worried how to manage IR issue !

I got into the service mode using a Samsung remote which I borrowed from my neighbour. I saw the 'SVM' option but when I entered into the SVM option, I did not find the 'Panel Display Option'. Tried few times but was not successful. Since the dealer agreed to replace the TV I did not want to fiddle with the options and decided not to try any more options int he Service Menu.

I am extremely happy with the picture quality and anyone who is interested can blindly buy the TV, just make sure the room is big enough so that the optimum viewing distance can be maintained. My living room dimensions are around 18*24 feet and I find the viewing experience far immersive because of the free space around.

I want to fix my AV gear once the new TV is delivered and I will post some pictures then.

Many thanks to all of you for your inputs, suggestions and advise. Thanks for being so helpful :)

Cheers, Ravi

It's good you caught this at the right time, i wonder why the dealers try to pass on demo piece to customers.Maybe because they know all will not check and they would get away with it most of the time. Spending so much and getting a demo piece it is atrocious. You can actually complain and see if the deal can become more sweeter.

Ravi,

Call Samsung customer care and raise a tracking number with all the details. Also drop them an email. Make sure you have enough evidence such that the dealer cannot go back on his words and the replacement process is faster.

Documentation and evidences are important.

All the best!

I did not find the 'Panel Display Time' option' in the SVC menu, may I request you to please check once again and let me know. A screen shot would greatly help and this would also help all the prospective buyers.

Thank you.

I sold my old TV with remote last week. When I enter SRV, I saw the minutes. Will post the details when I can get hold of a Samsung IR remote.

users who have used the standard remote, please let me know which model works best as there are plenty on Ebay.in
Found the remote model no SAMSUNG AA59-00784C. It's not available locally on ebay. I am looking for the same.

Also is anyone using the soundbar , how is the experience. Is it worth to use the same or better to sell it off and recover some money.

1.70 L - 1.74 L with sound bar is a good bargain, you can go ahead. We brought 2 TV's and hence got a deal of 1.7 L. Also prices may differ from Blore to Hyd. I checked the Sound bar and it sounds decent. I have not opted for it as I watch movies using wireless headphones all the while. For normal TV viewing I did not find the sound bar to be worth it. The dealer gave me a 8K discount since I have not opted for it. Later I came to know that they can give up to 10K discount on sound bar, so you can start your negotiation from 10K in case you don't opt for the sound bar.

Cheers, Ravi

Hope it gets sorted for your in a timely and stress free manner.

Thank you.

I went to the shop yesterday and happened to meet the owner of the store. I have explained him the facts and showed him photographs of the scratches. I have also shown himself pics of 'history' screenshot which has all the history of the viewed channels. There were few date stamps of 22nd Sep !! He apologized and promised to deliver a new set today evening. He called his store managers and showed them the pics in my mobile and questioned them howa demo piece was delivered :) he did his best to passify me and since he promised delivery of a new TV, I did not make a fuss.

Will update once I receive the TV.

Many thanks to all of you for your support.

Btb, the picture quality is mind blowing and there cannot be a better TV in India than this.

Cheers, Ravi

Good, you did this, i was in the same dilemma yesterday. First got a deal of 1.72 lakhs for the TV but later on Pai refused to bill the same as they did not have any stock. Kept searching finally after great negotiation and dificulty closed the deal @ 1,73250 at Girias with sound bar. The main issue was that they were not ready to offer the price, second no stock, only 2 peices in banglore one was open box and other display piece. I told him very clearly i want a new set i don't care if it takes time. He understood and i will get my TV in 2 weeks time when fresh stock arrives. Also wanted to sell the soundbar and close the deal at 1.6 lakhs. But they were not ready to buyback and said to sell in open market. As he did not give the TV, i took the sound bar got everything billed and got it home.

Another friend went with me and he bought the 51F5500 for which also there was no stock and after 2 hours of negotiation he got a price of Rs 66,800. Otherwise they were not ready to lower than 67,300.

Only thing they kept on saying was please check the pricing from Monday on wards, also that they have sold the 51f5500 a lot. Ezone jayanagar did the have 64" 8500 in display and were quoting 2.02 lakhs for the same.

Wanted to check what firmware are the current users of 64" F8500 are on. Was reading through the avs forum where the latest firmware is 1114 is causing some issue on PQ .
So most of the folks there are still on 1112 and they say its pretty good. The one on the samsung India website is 1110.3 which looks far behind from what is currently running in US.
The other this is will the firmware revision naming convention change for different regions or it remains the same.

Please post your current firmware and thoughts on this.

The dealer has sent a new TV last night. It looks like a new piece as the carton came with two packing straps on both the ends of the carton (heat sealed). When I opened the box I saw that there is a protective polythene wrap around the TV which can be removed only after I remove the TV from the box, it appears that the TV was wrapped all around (in the factory ?? )and put in the carton. In my earlier TV carton, the polythene wrap was just lying on TV which I could just pull out without taking the TV out.

The accessories box is sealed with a polythene cover, but the 3D glasses box did not had any protective wrapping on it. I checked the glasses and they are new.

The month of manufacturing is Oct 2013 and the MRP printed on the box is Rs. 223900. I will get the TV installed tonight and will post my observations.

Cheers, Ravi
