Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

Saiju, Any comments?
I am in the verge of picking one myself and this issue is putting me off.

Honest opinion - it does not matter as long you are watching from recommended or normal viewing distance.

The issue shows up only if you watch from abnormally vertical angles. Like you are 1.5 - 2 feet from the TV and look down on the display or if you are lying on a Gandhi bed and looking up the screen.

Not an issue at all if you ask me because, for one, you would never watch TV in those awkward positions and, two, you will be seated at least 6 feet away from the screen.

Demo the TV from your viewing distance at home. That said, the TV has no issue with horizontal angles. It is as gorgeous as it is from a sweet spot.

All the best!

I think it is a non-issue.
Moreover a bright plasma somehow makes the images look sharper.
Whites are pure on this plasma.
That is a bonus with already sufficiently deep blacks.

Totally agree with you.
I've had 2 LG and a Panasonic GT50. The whites were always off, more like light creamy butter. F8500 has changed that and whites are now pure.

I'll post some picture today with my new AVR and speakers.

Viewing it from the top is not a scenario for me as I said but viewing from bottom (lying down on the floor), most definitely is.
Booking today. Everyone cannot be wrong. :)

First quote 1.68L. Room for negotiation possible I think.
Promising non display piece but I am skeptical.
Told him I know how to check the display hours and he is ok with that.

excellent price, I was also skeptical, was only relieved when i saw the usage counter in the system menu. But yes, since stocks are hard to source, have to be careful.

Blasto: Please update the thread with the final price which you settled for. Also, the dealer name/address will help.

I booked it today. Delivery is next Wednesday.
Showroom is Bajaj electronics Panjakutta, Hyderabad. Arguiable the biggest showroom in Hyderabad.
They have the TV on display. They have other 85" 4K TVs on display too from Sony, Samsung and LG. If you are looking for big screen TV, demo here.

It is the same dealer (different branch) which highyoufly got his f8500 last November with the offer 1.7L with sound bar and 1.62L without.

I tried to being down the price to 1.62L but the sales manager said that anything below 1.68L is not possible and did not budge when I tried to leave. The offer highyoufly got was apparently in Diwali frenzy and Samsung was throwing in a sound bar themselves which is not the case right now. He said 0% finance with 5 minutes approval is possible for the same price but cant go down. He also gave some lucky draw coupons (25 numbers(!?!)) along with the offer.

I tried various other showrooms and it is not available anywhere and the pricing is also very good compared to the numbers I see in this thread from other dealers and hence decided to bite the bullet.

Cool. Congratulations.
Baja electronics punjagutta gives the best price. I bought a couple of items including my Samsung led.

Congrats , and enjoy your tv. Pricing is good. I still remember I bought mine for 1.72 and sold the soundbar for 14k. Net it costed 1.58.
Do go for 3 years extended warranty , I am also planning to buy the same once my installments for the tv get over.

Hi, I am trying to find the Black Optimizer setting. I have tried looking in Picture and advanced settings. Any ideas??? I am waiting to select DARK ROOM setting and see the difference. There is a firmware update available, would the update make any difference?

Any ideas on cleaning the panel? water would be ok?

This was the first one I am planning to test when I get my hands on the TV.
Varied reports suggest a drop from 0.02 fl to 0.007 fl when set to dark room optimization.

Firmware is updated to v1114 and says no available update. However v1115 is available on the Samsung website. Has anyone updated to v1115 from the website?

Was looking at calibration settings. There are quite a few resources on the net:

cnet
plasmatvbuyingguide
tweak tv
AVS Forums

All have given calibration settings. All have calibrated under Warm 2, except for plasmatvbuyingguide calibrated under Warm 1. Has anyone tried them? I would use these settings and keeping that as a base, I would further tweak the basic settings from any calibration disc or software.

Did you purchase one yourself?

Mine is on v1114. Sometimes OTA updates are available much later the site downloadable version. I used to check the site but now have kept the set on auto updated and check once in a month.

I am on warm2 as warm1 is a bit cold for my liking. plasmatvbuyingguide is a very bad site for reviews, stay away from it.

Settings from this site are mostly off. But they give useful comparisons with other TVs and the pros and cons they list out is mostly correct.

They have a soft corner for LG though or so it might seem if you read the reviews.
