Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

Thanks to Blasto for providing the details on the deal.

Current Users : Whats the best mode/settings for this TV?
Not planning to do any breaking in.

Did you source it from Hyd? Did he provide shipping?
Any info will help others sitting on the fence.

Just as I was getting antsy, because of a delay in delivery, just got a call that my set is expected within the next couple of hours.:D Can someone please tell me what is "in the box" 4 pairs of 3 D glases or two ? I am told that there is only one remote.

I am informed that the set is a "May 2014" manufactured piece -as I was insistent that the set should be no older than March 2014.... looks like Samsung are continuing to produce the F8500 through this year.

Is there anybody who has done a wall mount ( Swivel) ? I would most likely need one.

The TV just came in : production of May 2014 -plastic rope intact / cellophane sticker on the top of the box intact, but it was not a sealed piece ! Clearly the thermocole blocks were hand refitted and the inner plastic sheet was not factory machine packed -the remote box was also opened .Just sent it back .... :(

That's sad to hear, you should have checked the hours used and no of times switched on that would give a clear picture. So whats the next plan.

Make sure you check the usage in the system menu. That should put all your anxiety to rest.

Thanks guys: am going to the shop to check the second TV ( brought for my friend) -have been assured that I need only buy if completely satisfied......hopefully he will be able to arrange another fresh piece.
If not, I got to try Hyd. although I have never been able to contact the person- tried several times today.

OK - finally checked the service menu for the second set at the shop - and the set is home now!
Hopefully will be installed tomorrow.

Hi All,

Of late we have power fluctuations and sudden power cuts in our locality. Power resumes in few seconds and goes off again. This cycle repeats again and again. I have connected the TV to a a Belkin surge protector, would this suffice? or should I go for a Voltage Stabilizer, please advise. If yes, what can be the recommended model ?

Regards, Ravi

Please invest in a good stab. It is well worth it. When you are spending so much for the tv, it makes sense to get a good stab.

There are suggestions on earlier pages of this very thread as also another on TV burn in protocols. Will be happy to send them to you once I am at home.

All the way from plans of getting an led for my bright room, i ended up with this 64 inch panel ... plasma still the way to go. Upgrading from a pana VT 20, i was skeptical can any samsung plasma do as well. My eyes took a while to go from the natural colours of the vt 20 to the more pop in the samsung. I would have loved a Panasonic VT60 but this one is pretty close to it.

Congrats on your purchase. I too have Pany VT20 and Samy F8500. My initial impression was also like that. After using Samy for a couple of months, it is coming closer to VT20 with minor adjustments here and there. 3D - I feel better in Samy.

Can someone please enlighten me on the following :
1. Can I use any blue tooth enabled keyboard with F8500 ? Samsung is quoting 5K for their "matching" keyboard.
2.Anyone in Pune availed of the extended warranty ?
The installation guy quoted over 14.8 and asked me to pay cash to him directly as with cheques it could take over a month to sort out etc. Sounded weird so held back and am planing to ask Samsung directly; they want the proof of purchase uploaded onto their site and as I have not collected the bill I have not been able to do so as yet! Thanks!

Call Samsung and speak to them directly. They have a dedicated department for extended warranty. You can select a 1/2/3 year warranty. I can't recollect exactly but it falls in the range of 5k/8k/12k.

The tv needs to be registered with Samsung. You have an option of doing it yourself online or asking the Samsung Engineer to do it who comes over for installation. If done online, you need to attach a scanned copy of the bill.

Regards

Extended warranty for 3 years post service tax etc comes up to 16k. I had inquired on the same last year. But dropped the idea as i had just got the TV. I would be going for the extended warranty after a couple of months post the EMI for the TV is over.
