Samsung Plasma 3D PS51D550 Owners Thread

Guess this thread can official be open now.......

A few questions to all the experts
1)How do you check the usage hours on this TV?
2)Best calibration for movies and STB
3)there is no AV2 in this TV ,having prob in fixing up both the Tata Sky & Xbox .
4)BD player----HDMI-----AVR--HDMI---TV = works fine
5)XBOX---componet-----AVR---HDMI--TV= only audio no video :sad: why????
try the setting in my onkyo AVR but nothing ....

i guess onkyo only provide component out for the component in , doesnot convert to hdmi.

with this tv, you shouldnot use Tatasky SD and that through AV input, get a HD box asap

for usage hour iirc you need to go to service menu by pressing info menu mute power

Now i genuinely dont know where to post?.... the older thread http://www.hifivision.com/television/17478-2011-samsung-plasma-3d-ps51d550.html has much more information & good post...& ppls might loose out on information if they start searching here.Morever,i honestly dont know how many of the d550 owner members r active at HFV,so that this thread can become very relevant.i'm active but have already posted my post purchase initial impression on the older thread,hence this becomes more confusing...so now what can mods do best here?..shift all the post purchase feedback as mine & some other d550 owners from the above mentioned/linked thread to here or rename the earlier thread as the owners thead? or make a sticky comment in start of this thread here,that this "new" d550 owners thread follows from or is in continuation of the older thread & that too remains active!
The main objective is for information visibility for members who r in pre-purchase or even post purchase stage of the tv,...so do whatever Best Applies here!

I believe you may need to connect XBOX component out directly to the TV. Also, I suggest you upgrade to TS+HD or TS HD ASAP as that is where TS is useful (SD is pathetic in TS IMHO).

Yeah, I didn't realize its a new thread. Shiv - would recommend contributing to the old thread so we get all the discussion on the model there without fragmentation and loosing time browsing different threads. Lets concentrate all discussion on the model there and anything related to price in my thread

This TV may not have ARC. 3D should play fine through USB, though BR 3D (Full HD frame sequential) format may not be supported. Lets continue our discussion on the older thread.

Hello guys, I'm thinking of Purchasing the D550 but here - Samsung PS51D550 (D550 PDP) Plasma 3D TV Review - it says that there was a bug in the firmware which was fixed in v1024.

But, the Indian site lists the latest fw as v1020 only - Support for PS51D550 SAMSUNG

I managed to find a v1025 on the Samsung UK website - Support for Series 5 51inch (PS51D550) SAMSUNG

Can we flash the Indian model with that firmware version, did any of you try and notice any improvements ?

Don't worry too much about that bug. It has been fixed in the newly available versions in the stock firmware. I bought mine in october and the bug wasn't there(or maybe it was but i really didnt notice it) and hence i did not even bother to check the firmware version let alone update it.

I think in india they have branched out v1024 and have given fix for the bug in that itself and it comes flashed in the newer manufactured units(maybe after sep). Maybe models bought before september had the older firmware without the fix.

Anyway even if the bug exists there is a simple workaround. Just set the digital noise filter setting to low, then set it to off, then set it to auto and then it works fine.

I thought we should not do burn-in in TORCH mode. Any reason you choosing it?

I read here - Break-in, burn-in, and image retention - Samsung Plasma TV FAQ - that it's not required for post-2007 models.

If it's required, can anyone give me some instructions or is it the same for every plasma ?

Yes its definitely not needed but doing it might improve the PQ of the TV in a long run.

surely,not only this TV but any fhdtv more than 40-42" size,....though it takes much more space to dl respectable quality 1080p video of high bitrate,but at the end the difference is really worth it ,particularly on bigger size tvs like the sammy d550!

3100GBs are supposedly better than 3050GB as it blocks light from top and sides. However, 3050s seems light weight, has more battery life and could be more durable than 3100s.

anyone solved the Buzzing noise that comes of the television would mounting it to the wall make much different would it dim the sound so you cant hear it lol
