Samsung Plasma 51F5500 Owners Thread /Reviews/Discussions!!

I am facing a problem. When I use USB or smart tv, the sound of that doesn't come to avr. Therefore the 3d movies do not have the actual surround sound I wanna use. Rendering my Yamaha avr useless.

How should I place the cables. As if now tv is connected to Yamaha avr through hdmi arc port

You will need an optical cable.. Toslink... Connect it to the optical out of the tv.. When u play a file thro usb or smart.. Select the optical input in your AVR.. I got a belkin 2m cable from flipkart for 450rs..

No need for optical cable, ARC can handle the audio from TV to RX:
1- connect HDMI out from your receiver to HDMI 2 input of your TV
2- enable anynet settings in your tv (it may be on by default; though not sure)
3- when you use USB/smart TV options of your TV select av4 input in your receiver (Yamaha) if not selected automatically
4- with anynet enabled u can change volume of ur receiver using TV remote only

I hope this helps.

Seems legit.. As per logic it should work.. I dint try this.. If someone had told me I would have saved 450bucks :-)

Mother of behen you mean it only works on samsung smart phones? Thats cocky. Did you try installing the APK I extracted from my phone? I guess the only option would be adding the APK to base and making a zip alligned rom for Nexus 4.

Check XDA if someone already has made some ROM with based on Samsung Note 2 or Galaxy S4. That might have this. Or put a request there to include this APK in the ROM Base. I am not really good with cooking rom for Android but certainly if Xperia Bravia engine can work on Samsung so should this.

It works with Samsung smart phones only I guess.. I'm searching xda.. Someone had raised this issue in Nexus 4 forums.. Apparently a new rom had to be installed after rooting.. I dint wanna try all that at this time.. May be when I get my Nexus 5 I shall use the Nexus 4 to do that s h i t.. Thanks

Honestly this reply came in a tad late and yesterday i bought the cable and did the settings. but i am happy with it.

also if using the cable, the arc does not work. so you cannot have arc and the cable working together.

thanks a lot for the advice. i will surely try once more with the new settings and lets see

Do let me know if your getting 5.1 through optical...what I read was through TV optical port one can only get 2.0 sound output.

Hello Friends,

Glad to be part of this group; my first post...
I decided that I'd post here after owning an HDTV; so finally took the plunge and purchased the PS51F5500.
Things i recd in the package in addition to TV -
-Smart Remote with batteries(No standard remote)
- 2 3D Glasses with batteries
- Manual
- Stand
- IR extender cable

- Now, some questions to the guru's here ..

- This TV comes with a 15amps plug; didnt realise it until i opened the package and I have a 5amp wall plug. Now i need to either use an spike protector which has a 15amp plug slot or replace the wall plug with a 15amp plug. (for time being i am using spike)
Which one is a better option? Please suggest..

- I have an old gen Sony DVD player and home theater which has no Optical in; so to get the home theatre setup; is there any converter available that i can use? my home theater has only AV in ;-(

- The TV came with only smart remote? is that the norm ? i have seen in some reviews that there are 2 remotes. standard and smart.

- Has anyone checked the service menu to see the hours of usage?

Thanks you...
DKM

gautam, its actually easy plug hdmi 2 in your tv and hdmi out in your avr

Hey.. Thanks man.. But is there a difference in the sound that comes out of hdmi vs optical? In my case I have a volume of 35 in my pioneer avr connected to the stb via hdmi.. But in the optical I have to keep a volume of about 45plus.. :-(

now that is something i also don't know. when i took the tv i had ample amount of time. after that i barely watch it except for weekends

1. Samsung is giving TV with 15A plug for no reason at all. It is not required. You can use an adapter with the 5A socket or cut of the 15A plug and replace it with 5A plug.

2. AV-in, composite RCA will not give you surround sound. I am afraid that your Sony htib is not going to be of any value.

Didn't work for me at the beginning but i did some changes and it worked.

realigned the receiver and it actually did work wonderfully. thanks a lot dude
