Samsung Plasma 51F5500 Owners Thread /Reviews/Discussions!!

I will do that.
Received the BDP yesterday night. It has a new design style with one rounded corner. It was box packed with HDMI cable, remote and batteries.
The MRP on the label is Rs.7990.
I will connect and play some of the DVDs as I don't have any Blue rays now. Meantime I will try to get few blue rays.

Sunil you got it at a good price as the BDP is worth 7K or more.

Your settings for the initial 100-200 hours is fine. Occasionally use the break in slides for few hours, if possible ( I kept one whole night running 11pm to 7am). Regarding the zooming it should be done sometime so that there is no static image. Portion of the logo still appearing will not harm. Better still see few full size movie from USB so that it is without logo and no black strips (on top and bottom) of wide screen movies. So better download few old movies or play it from BDP.

So the mantra is no static images should be kept. So keep zooming, keep changing channels, watch full screen size movies, use break in slide whenever possible etc.

Few days back USB slots of Plasma 51F5500 died. With it Also died my two 16 GB USB3 pendrives! Technician confirmed it and motherboard will be replaced in few days.

Anybody else encountered any problem so far with this TV ?

Hi,

Yes I agree. No one was ready to lower the price and it was difficult to bargain much.
Finally I visited Devi International and bought from there the same day.
The price in the bill is Rs.76,500.

I have visited other dealers and brand shops. Some of them were not ready to give lower than DP of 76,500. Their version was they should not sell below the DP as per the Samsung Policy.
You can also check Samsung brandshop in Koramangala ( opposite Ezone ).

Which shop did you get this for 71k with BDP offer?
Planning to get one but haven't got a quote for < 74k anywhere in Bengaluru.

Initial impression is just awesome!
We are really having a totally new TV watching experience, especially most of the english movie channels looks so good. I am planning to upgrade to HD DTH ( mostly Videocon D2H) from the present Tatasky SD to have the HD viewing experience.
Be sure to ask the new connection discount from Videocon.

Alright, let me check with Devi International as well as the Samsung shop in Koramangala.

Enjoy your new TV.

Visit reliance digital.. I bought it for 71k during Aug 15.. A friend of mine bought it for 69k..

The best i can get is 72,500 without BD. They are charging 1800 extra if i want a BD player. IS it worth it ? Also, no extended warrenty. For extended warrenty we have to pay 3k extra

Looks like an awesome deal.. Why don't you try.. Is the emi option available on cash on delivery? I know it sounds dumb.. But the delivery guys can bring card machine and swipe and convert to emi.. :-) try calling that number and find out..

COD not available on the order above 50k

Surely I will check.
Didn't know about the new connection discount.

This is not something that is declared or published. But sales folks have the authority to knock off anything up to Rs. 1000 depending upon circumstances. Does not mean that everyone will get the same discount - some get less, some more. One must bargain.

Oh HD experience will bowl you over. Once you are used to HD pq, you'll not feel like watching SD again. So get an HD connection ASAP.

The BDP offer is as prt of the Dussera/Diwali offer. It was advertised in Karnataka. But I am not sure it is applicable to all the states. You can check with Samsung. What I understood from the dealer is that, if we go with BDP offer dealer has to put Rs.2500 as per samsung policy. So I had an option of buying the TV 2.5K less if I don't want BDP. Since I need one went with BDP.

Dealers will not provide any extended warranty and it is from Samsung service.
Unless it is pat of the offer ( Which happened during independence day) extended warranty is chargable. I am also checking with Samsung for taking it.

Yes I will upgrade to HD soon.
Hooked up BDP yesterday night and tried few DVDs. Did not play with much options in BDP. It was automaticaly upscaled to 1920x1080.
Some of the DVDs have "moser baer" logo on screen even in zoom mode.
Looks like it is transparent. Is this ok?

Planning to run breakin slides tonight for few hours.

Took the 3 yr extended warranty for 51F5500 plasma from samsung.
So it will be 1yr + 3yr warranty.
Will be getting the warranty certificate within 15 days.

This is the warranty prices got from samsung for 51F5500

1yr Rs.3400, 2yr Rs.5500, 3yr Rs.8400.
VAT and service tax has to be added to the above cost.
It was Rs.10039 inc of all for 3yrs of extended warranty (4yrs of total warranty)
(In another way Rs.3346/yr or Rs.278/month and peace of mind)

This warranty can be availed within 1yr. But prices can change.
In my opinion it is good to take 2yr or 3yr extended warranty minimum.
You have the option of taking this extended warranty only ONCE.
