Samsung plasma "shocker of a price"!!!!

Had a chat with Vaibhav (JD Electronic) today and placed an order for the tv. Before doing this went to a few showrooms and had a good look at the TV and the pricing. Waiting for the delivery of the TV eagerly now.

My plasma arrived today. Delivered in perfect condition, on the promised date, at no extra charge. The samsung guys came over immediately and did the wall mounting. Very efficient overall.

The TV looks beautiful and VERY slim, and 50 inches looks huge in the home.

Have only watched a little sd content so far while setting up the TV, and the PQ is good but not stunning. Especially the blacks and shadow detail are underwhelming. I will play with the settings more tonight and of course calibrate after the run in period, which will hopefully improve picture quality.

Another small downside is the glare. My room is not very bright, but still there is glare in daytime viewing. I had to draw the curtains and make the room really dark to cut the glare.

Overall only a 7 on 10 so far, but that may be mainly due to the content and the settings.

Will post pics later tonight.

Btw I have starred running the break in slides, will report back on that as well.

I am set to order tomr, can you tell me how u are doing the initial run down period and any settings. Seeking advice on how to handle safely the plasma once its delivered to my home.

FYI I don't have buzz, and have not faced any image retention issues yet. I am using the set conservatively (settings here), and running break in slides (download here).

As mentioned before, I am not fully satisfied with the PQ for standard definition content. Although it isn't "bad", it is nowhere close to what I saw in the store (maybe that was because of the settings). Unfortunately I haven't had time to buy/rent Blurays and don't have access to downloaded HD content.

Also I haven't been able to check viewing hours. I opened the service menu but the info wasn't where it was supposed to be. Can someone guide me where to find the info in Indian models?

According to Break-in, burn-in, and image retention - Samsung Plasma TV FAQ
Enter the Service Menu. On entering the Service Menu, in the left column, scroll down and select Option Byte. The next screen that appears will display two columns of data. Look in the left hand column for the heading Panel Display Time or Panel Hours (it varies by model). Before exiting, highlight Reset and then hit OK. (Brightness will be skewed if you do not reset.) Your TV with automatically shut off.

well i am having a huge problem connecting to vaibhav's number does anyone have an alternative no so that i can book this telly pleese

hey everyone..

i got the tv last friday but the tv is still in box as some renovation is going on at my place..

watched some sd movies from the box itself though:D
someone said sd doesn't look great on this tv..for me it's pretty awesome for the dvds i watched..but again,am not even close to being a videophile

It played like every crap i threw at it...tried all the videos i had on my phone n then pendrive n then some 1gb memory card..didn't try mkvs yet though..but i bet it plays hd also smoothly through usb..the subtitles can be synced too..

my panel buzzes a little i guess..but just a little..hope it wont get worse..and there is retention too..but goes away easily..and i think mine might have been taken out of the box before atleast once..theres mud in the box..is that normal??and there's tiny winy scratch at the back of panel and the support thing for stand is scratched..
maybe am just being paranoid..

i don't really care as long as the buzz doesn't increase and there won't be any major retention..will ask the samsung guy to get the service remote tomorrow anyway..

and am having a real tough time convincing my neighbors and relatives that it's not an LED..it's so goddamn slim!

Even if the scratches can be excused as incidental, I don't think there should be any mud in the box!

Did you talk to Vaibhav(JD Electronics) about this?

Regarding the buzz - is it noticeable only when you try to listen to it,during silent scenes or is it something that can distract you ?

hmm is the buzz "audio" buzz? I thought it was a buzz in video - you know what I mean. Any banding ec noticed?

My bad, I should have been clearer and used better words - I meant to type White (or Black) , high contrast, scenes without having the audio on - that would clearly show that the sound originated from the video processing area and not the audio.

OMG :yahoo: i better go and check this out today. As a matter of fact i live in the opp street to J.D. Electronics kilpauk...

Actually they have about 11 sets left and mine has been delayed ( along with 3 others).

I should have received mine by Tuesday morning but there was no update on their tracking at all. All enquiries to Deccan360 (the courier) were given the same answer - "we shall call you back within half hour - it should be there today".

I called Vaibhav , who verified that Deccan had not shipped it, in spite of having it in their warehouse since Saturday.

As an aside - it is very disappointing that people never give a clear cut answer. I would not have waited for 3 hours if they had mentioned it - I would be mad but at least I would not be mad along with 3 hours of expectant waiting..

well, the buzz is like almost non-existent as of now..you can hear it only at real close distance..and it's not an audio related issue i guess since it doesn't increase with volume..it's not at all bugging as of now..hope it wont increase though..
