Showcase Your Turntable

Shaizada and hrtk: Excellent gear! I am so jealous of everyone with a beautiful analogue setup.

Hi shaizada

Great set up. What speakers are you using?

Hey hrtk, I actually have my setup posted here. Scroll down for pics of the speaker:
http://www.hifivision.com/my-audio-video-setup/2339-pure-2-channel-stereo-setup.html

The speakers are single driver Alnico magnet hemp cone based from a company called Omega Speakers. It's called the Super 8.

Thanks! I'm mainly an analogue listener. The digital setup is just for convenience really. Vinyl is definitely my main listening medium for critical listening.

Thanks bluu.

@ shaizada of course i know bout the Omega Super 8's but never heard them.

Amazing!! But I sometimes wonder if one needs to spend that much for quality listening!!

Where r u sourcing it frm and whats the damage? Is it a used one?

The TTs are not manufactured anymore. (last batch was in Dec of last year). I bought mine used from a Audio store during my last biz trip to US but could not have it modded by the time I returned. Its with my brother currently. I got a bunch of mods:

Tonearm damping
Upgraded tonearm
Tonearm rewire
220V support module
platter mat
strobe disabler
upgraded interconnectors and cables

Total cost for TT and upgrades came to a fair bit

The sound is priceless however!

Hi HRTK

If you are ok to a used player, look at an EMT. Its stunning. I use one.

EMT should be good Prem, can you pls gimme some details of the TT.
The only thing that worries me is finding the spares for vintage gear and if its actually worth all the pain considering the new TT's available in the market.

Regards.

Had the opportunity to have a peek at hrtk's set-up ...

What is to be said ..... sigh ..... Very simple yet stand-out choices .... a simple Rega .... an unassuming Leben phono ... an accurate Leben 300 integrated amp .... and the royal Tannoy (with single 15" fullrange driver) floorstanders.

With 'clean' LPs, the sound quality is to be heard to be believed ... what details ... what soundstage ..... what depth and ... what, what nots ... AND the speakers did "disappear" too ... :-)

The LPs I had carried along 'had' some amount of grime, so, the telltale 'hisss' was evident. However, the ones used by hrtk had none of those issues and the result was phenomenal.

"Would tend agree to one observation though, the bigger the driver, the better it suits TT (pure analogue) outputs."

Thanks hrtk for keeping your afternoon free for my visit.

Thanks again for the kind words avidyarthy. It was a pleasure having you over.

@ anm you are welcome too..:)

Hi hrtk,

Tell you what, go for that EMT. As far as I know (at least true for the one prem got) EMTs come with a good built-in phono-stage. Then you can sell off your Leben phono-stage at a generous price and I can buy it :D.

On a more serious note, I have been off the forum for a few days. Discovering your set-up was an extremely pleasant surprise (I already knew about shaizada's beautiful set-up or mars' considerations to acquire a new TT), more because of the Leben twins, especially the phono. As far as I know you are the only member of HFV having this phono.

Have you compared the Leben phono with any other phono, cheaper or more expensive ones? How is it different from the others? It would be interesting to know your thought process when deciding in favor of this phono-stage. Also, have you got it from ARN Bangalore or you bought it abroad?

Too many questions? Take your time.

Regards.

Hi Asit,

I'm afraid you will have to approach ARN for a new one as i wont part with mine..:)

Regarding my decision to buy the Leben phono, i didnt audition it or any other phono stage before buying it. My decision was purely based on reviews. I was tracking non tube at one point(Graham Slee, Lehmann Black cube) but decided i wanted to go the tube way to compliment my CS300. I shortlisted EAR 834P and the Leben. The price almost being the same and keeping the aesthetics of Leben in mind it was easy to decide on the RS30EQ and now i can live with it forever...:)

Hope that answers your questions...;)

Regards.

^ that however should not stop you from auditioning the speakers using the Topping TP20 as the integrated amp ... with the TT and phono on-line.

With the fantastic sensitivity @ 98-99 dB on hand, and a compatible 8 ohms impedance, it could be a great match .... quite possible, it might also take the famed Leben integrated amp for a ride .... :p

Nice thread, this.

Here's mine: a Garrard 401 from 1964, and 301 from 1956. The 301 has since been refitted with an SME III arm. Cartidges are Shure V15VxMR and Micro-Benz ACE respectively. Sorry for the poor quality pictures.

From one 401 guy to another, NICE!!! I'm planning a granite plinth sometime soon

Good to see Garrard owners in the forum as well. I'm looking to buy a 301 if someone is kind enough to sell it to me...:P
