Showcase Your Turntable

From one 401 guy to another, NICE!!! I'm planning a granite plinth sometime soon

Thanks, Finyl Vinyl! All the best with your granite project. If you could find some slate, it might turn out to be even better, from the various accounts on the 'net. Getting this stuff cut perfectly is the biggest challenge.

Cheers!

My humble TT

Project Debut III, with Ortofon 2MRed, torn arm rewired with Cardas cables and use Lyrita phono stage.

Gvenu: A very elegant setup. Very pleasing on the eye. The amount of wood
seen is very soothing. And I am sure so must the music be....:clapping:

BTW how high is the turntable from the ground??? Did you choose the height
specifically or it just happened??

Taurean Bull, I'm looking to do a granite plinth. Time and money are the essence :(

I agree..dont do Granite..unless you use it as 2 layers with something in between.
I am not sure where you get Slate in india ! Rajiv in one of his Posts had suggested getting hold of Pool table makers..apparently they use slate.

It is around 50cm from ground. I was actually looking for a rack which is of this height and can accommodate all my gear. Finally I could get one from one of the furniture shops in ORR in Bangalore

Off topic a bit here, i will be shortly into setting up my listening space in our new home. To start with, I plan to place the speakers on either side of a central door, which leads to a balcony, overlooking a valley. I had this planned after reading a lot on audio equipment placement, wherein the common consenses was not to place the audio rack in between the speakers (as almost 99.9% of audiophiles do, as it tends to look better). I am in the process of finalizing an audio rack to hold the following:

1) Technics SL3200 Turntable
2) Marantz CD63SE CD Player
3) Nakamichi DR3 Cassette Deck
4) NAD 402 Tuner
5) NAD 106 Preamp
6) NAD 216thx Poweramp

What approach would you suggest?

1) The towering approach as with the usual audio racks
2) The horizontally spread approach with a larger top surface (more like those used for AV Consoles in a home theatre setup)

No plans as of now, but may (only may, not necessarily an option) see some reel-to-reel somewhere, someday, drool over it and end up buying it. This would have to be accomodated as well.

What triggered this note was the height aspect, raised by Gopi.

Plan to use MDF or wood (as of now)

Thanks in advance.

Hi Reubenism, from personal experience and expectation would suggest the horizondal spread approach especially with multiple sources..you can plan for a 2 x 3 or 3x 2. I rpefer to change Source material (CD/LP) standing up without bending too much:)

anyway for 6 components putting a tower may not be a great idea anyway.

only problem with the placement you are suggesting is much longer speaker cables which usually are preferred to be kept as short as possible (apparently it is preferredto have Longer IC compared to longer Speaker cables hence many folks keeping only the Amp in the center and rest Offcenter.

regarding MDF.from what i learnt the more materials you sie thebetter. metal +MDF is a better combination
