Sony launches a new Blu-ray player at Rs. 9,999/-

Good news. Now the others too would follow suit. BTW, where have you seen the price?
I was eying the BDP-360 before I went for the Oppo and that Sony was a good budget player. I hope even this will be same.

I think the blue ray technology will soon out of the limelight and then the prices of the players will see the south direction. I remember the same thing happening to the DVD players. DVD players came at a premium price for the early adopters but nowadays it is available like cheap cupcakes.
However, I had a question regarding this technology. Does the blue ray player also plays normal DVDs, VCDs, CD & MP3s?
Just curious.......

good news for all those who want to enter HD world, without spending much.:clapping:

In-fact this is the cheapest region C player available in india. It has`also got good reviews. But remember it does not have any analog 7.1 audio outputs, no Built-in Wi-Fi,no 3D technology. Overall, Sony's BDP-S370 is a good Blu-ray Player for the price with great image and audio quality.

Yes, the player S370 as per Sony India website plays the normal DVDs, VCDs, CDs and MP3. :)

If the price is Rs 9999/- only then its a great news........so Blu Ray will become more popular...........8-))

I dont think this is a great news, when people are talking a lot in this forum about buying a player from USA for less than $100 with same features ???? No purpose of buying a "C" locked player where the titles are less and if at all region free selling in India for more than 1K

Well Srini, what you said is true but considering the fact that the other players are still more than 15k, this definitely a good news. And once the trend starts others will follow suit and that I think is a good news. And if Blu-ray has to survive in India then the prices of Blu-ray discs also have to come down and which I think would happen soon. Same was the case for DVD's when it came out initially and now we all know where the prices are.

BTW, it seems there is a region free player available on ebay, so that means there might be a mod kit also available somewhere.

I second with that, its just a matter of starting a trend. I was looking to this player specs and they looks fabulous. All True HD decoading and Bitstreme, plus USB wifi, BD Live, Internet streaming, ..... pretty good, how good that player performs to produce BR picture is yet to be seen. But definately a good start to bring the prices down for both BRp and BRd .

I stick on to my views:)

wow with two BDs free, which is an effective discount of at least 1500 bucks, or let's make it 1000 since you don't have a choice in them.......9000 bucks......it's excellent news whichever way you slice it. Anything that moves a product category down the price chain is excellent news for the consumers of the product category and the formats it supports. Of course now BDs will also come down. Critical mass will of course be achieved when BDs trend towards the 500 rupee mark, and i see that happening soon. The combination of sub 10k player and ~500 buck BDs should really give the HD revolution in India wings.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
