I never said that regions B and A work on my PS3. I did say that the region coding scheme was less draconian on BD and more so on DVD.
BD's can be made to support more than one region. So if C is included in the disc, it will play. All discs from Universal, Warner and Paramount are multi-region anyway - A B and C. Most discs from Sony are also multi-region, as well. Fox and Disney are the only ones to market region coded discs. Because I've carefully chosen the discs I've bought, all of them will play in American machines as well as on my Region C PS-3.
Also you can defeat the DVD region coding very easily with Clone/anyDVD and make copies that will play everywhere.

In india unless pirated blu ray dics are available,blu ray players won't sell in the same numbers as dvd players even if they are priced around 5k.
Contrary to others my sony dvd writer(benq) didn't last more then 3 years it first stopped reading cd & latter dvd,but was better then the samsung.

Sony is known to use chips from various manufactures even from its rivals.A common sight in sony products are chips from NEC,one of the first companies to use trinitron based picture tubes under licence from sony.

Same here,my DRU820 performed very well for 3yr & now no more.
Using HP now which is said to be make of Liteon dont write DL DVD as good as Sony.

Pirated Blu Rays are sometimes available in Kolkata but the price of it is not much less than the originals because the price of blank BD-R is still high....and industry pressing for piracy may not be available very soon.......
I don't think blank BDs are going to come down any time sooner. They'd ruin the marked for the pre-recorded discs if that happened. That's why BD for computers is still a mess, hence Steve Jobs statement on Blu-ray.
My DRU820 is giving open/close problem for many years. I spent 250 rupees servicing it @Rashi and it worked in front of him, but as soon as I got it back, the problem started next day. I have to push button a dozen times over 10 mins for it to open once. Then sometimes it closes before I can insert the CD and another 10 mins goes by before i successfully open it again
.Sony saw lots of RMAs on their drives hence launched an "advanced" dust-proof DVD writer last year which was just trying to correct the deficiencies in its original design. They do not cope will with Indian conditions.
Writing quality is good though. Never had a write failure till date.

i had a similar problem with my pioneer HT player, i used it for about 4 years before it cracked

i have the same tray problem in my samsung dvd writer & my old LG cd rom drive,my friends samsung CD writer started to give the problem just after 2 days of purchase .
but never had the tray problem in my DRU800

Samsung is famous in trey problem & even early failures.LG is decent at that.
Sony worked well & I am searching for its lens to get repaired for reuse.

I hope Moser Baer starts manafacturing BDs.
They actually convinced many to buy original DVDs @49/-. Something like this should happen to BDs.

Please tell me you are joking. Do you really want Blu-rays to look worse than DVDs? For tons of MoserBaer DVDs actually look worse than VCDs. Also, are you really looking forward to the obnoxious and humungous MoserBaer logo 'watermark' covering up your favorite actors' faces? Or is it the forced advertising, at times for over ten minutes before the movie, that you find so endearing about the MoserBaer DVDs? Naa.. it must be the scrolling caller tune ads and the promos for their website, that too right in the middle of the movie, that you find so addicting, that you just cannot get enough of MoserBaer DVDs.I hope Moser Baer starts manafacturing BDs.
PS: MoserBaer did launch 'four' Blu-ray titles at a MRP of Rs. 799/- and as would be expected from them, the audio/video quality is absolutely pathetic and actually far worse than an average Hollywood DVD. In fact I have seen many Indian DVDs, which are not great to begin with, that are far superior to the farce released as BDs by MoserBaer
How many 'NEW' titles did they actually release at that price? Right, not many. The average price of a new MoserBaer title is Rs. 99 - 199/-, which is not a whole lot less than the other video companies. Considering most DVDs are priced at Rs. 199/- the price of a Blu-ray disc at Rs. 599/- is not entirely unjustified. Specially considering, that DVDs have been around for over 'thirteen' years, while Blu-rays were introduced less than 'three' yrs ago. Most pirated DVDs are much better than DVDs from MoserBaer. Personally, my wish for companies like 'MoserBaer', is that they dissapear from the face of this planet.
I have some good prints of MoserBaer DVDs @49/- (new films). When they started, they were selling good/acceptable quality new movies DVDs @49/-.
In the competition, T-Series also sold many new movies with excellent quality video and excellent 5.1 audio @49/-. I have few of them.
They have increased their price to 99 in last 6-8 months. Example, I have "A Wednesday" for Rs.49/- (when it was newer) and now the same is priced @Rs.99/-.

I dont want to comment openly, since sanjay has comeout openly,,,,,there are lot of evidence-Video evidence i have where moser has released worst DVD's than handycam shooted films in theatres.
I agree on Mr.Sanjay views,,, except Moser released DVD's for Rs.199/- or 599/- every DVD's are worst in PQ, and why to comment on SQ if the PQ are worst... But can tell one thing,, Black & white old release on Moser seems to tolerable based on the film value, since we cannot much comment on PQ...

How can you ignore the following issues and tolerate them on your DVDs?
It's funny, but not a mere co-incidence, that the only other company you choose to mention, is almost as bad as MoserBaer, with their DVD quality and abuse of consumer rights.
PS: At the risk of sounding elitist, personally I would prefer the prices of Blu-ray players and software to remain substantially higher than DVDs. For, this seems to be the only way to keep the 'average joe' from totally destroying this format, by accepting pathetic quality, forced advertising, watermarks etc. from companies such as MoserBaer, Shemaroo & T-Series. We all know once the 'average joe' gets in on the act, these companies would no longer care two hoots of what a few of us think or do. Please remember, that in India, with every single new video format, the quality has only gone from bad to worse and never the other way around.
I suppose, it's hard to argue with each individuals own standards of what one finds "good/acceptable quality". But, having said that and with no offence mean't, I am sorry friend, but I seriously doubt you have been exposed to really good quality DVDs. In any case, quality is not the only issue with companies such as 'MoserBaer' & T-Series', who abuse and probably even break the law, with their abhorrent practice of advertising and putting watermarks on their DVDs.
I don't know of more than a handful of Hindi movie DVDs, that I would actually term as 'excellent' and not one of them is from either of these two companies. Believe me, I have seen more than my share of DVDs, both Indian releases and those released overseas. You, my dear friend, I think need to find, some good quality DVDs, to reassess what is excellent and is what is not. I could help you in this endeavour, thus if interested, PM me.

Can you imagine what kind of idiots are actually running these companies for them to actually do such a stupid thing. The worst audio presentation of a movie is to mix the 5.1 channels sound into a mono track and then make it even worse by encoding that mono track into all 5 channels. It makes the movie unbearable to watch.

They're already manufacturing them for one of their brands - I paid around 800 bucks. I have The Reader which is from them. Picture quality is good, but the sound quality sucks - Vanilla DD. But that's Moser Baer, can you expect anything else from them?
Well, he might not sell Macs for a low cost, but you can get the Hackentosh, if you buy the mid grade PC parts that Apple uses in it's overpriced PCs.

First of all, 'The Reader' BD has been released by Eagle Video and not MoserBaer. Secondly, not only is the audio only lossy Dolby Digital, even the picture quality is quite bad. Even the print used to the make the master has scratches and lines running through the picture at times. Worst of all, even the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, has been altered, by cropping the picture, to fill a 16:9 screen. Altering the aspect ratio by cropping of the picture is probably the worst thing one can do. By the way, the movie is extensively censored, to the point that it totally destroys the narrative of the movie. PS: If you really want to see how bad the Eagle BD is, check out the BD of 'The Reader' released by Universal, which by the way is Region coded A/B/C and thus, should work in players from all regions.
