ST50 replacement with LED or Refund??

Yes you are right. Fresh stock of GT50 has arrived from Thailand recently as I received a replacement of my 50GT50 (They had sent me a demo piece earlier which had severe burn in of the Tata SKy Message logos).

The replacement unit is manufactured in November 2012 and currently doing its first 200 hours.

How much actually is the dealer asking?
The dealer gave me a price of Rs. 1.25 lac (I have mentioned that in the pricing thread).
When I said the going price was around Rs. 96-98K, he reduced his price to Rs. 1.23 lac. I said it is really too much of premium for something that is not easily available.

Price for 50ST50 was quoted as 1.01 lac, which is probably higher by around 10K than what I would want to pay.

Strange that you are getting November piece in January.
I was expecting January piece to be available in the month of January since all old stocks have been exhausted everywhere.

What is odd, is that a Panasonic official told me that there are no new stocks expected in January. I was asked to call in first week of February to get a status of the inventory.

Stock that has been imported could vary in manufacturing date. There is no need to be worried about manufacturing date unless it is really old - read 9+ months old. Even then a latest manufactured piece will possibly(?) only have new firmware. Hardware is pretty much the same. What matters is the display usage.

This applies to any TV regardless of the brand/technology.

A dealer in Mumbai has 50GT50 and 50ST50, though asking price is too much.
He got some stock last week (as per his claim).

The dealer is located in Ghatkopar.

mind if i you could find out about 42 inches ST/GT.

I am from NCR and this have no connects in Mumbai..

I have a GT50. Pls be aware of few issues that will give some headaches.

1. Bad IR. Watching 5 mins of Star HD channels will leave bad IR that is visible even from 10ft. My settings are relaxed with contrast below 50 and brightness at 0. I searched online and came across posts indicating GT is most susceptible to IR compared to ST and VT. No wonder a demo piece would have burn-in in no time. PLS BE CAUTIOUS.

2. False contouring. Some may be more sensitive than others to this issue. I understand it is a Plasma tech drawback but never have I noticed it on LG or Samsung. The issue has been reduced but very much there that it is irritating at some point. Once you see it can't be ignored.

3. Non-functional contrast control in professional modes. Increasing contrast after 50 is a wasted exercise. The slider just moves with no affect on the picture. Seems there is some limit on the control.

Hope this helps FMs who are torn deciding between ST and GT. Go for ST but do check if points 1 and 2 affects the ST.

How old is the TV? How many hours so far?

I am surprised that 5 minutes causes IR.

I am linking one thread which discusses common issues with plasma's (more specifically Panasonic plasmas).
I am still thinking if it is worth spending a lac or rupees and then live with these problems.

Do any of these problems affect normal TV viewing? Or do you see the problems on screen only when you look for them?

What is the 50hz issue/ What is Dynamic false contouring/ What is Posterizing. | AVForums.com - UK Online

Its upto you if you want to take the risk with such high amount, and you will definitely see the problems whenever you are watching TV because once you see such defects you cannot UNSEE them and consciously or subconsciously your attention will always be fixed on that defect.

It is a month old with more than 100 hours on it. Yes, it is noticeable under normal viewing conditions. Once you notice it, you can't ignore it.

If you are in Mumbai, welcome to visit for a demo.

Have you got stock in Delhi as well?

There was a small consignment for Mumbai in the mid of January - but just three pieces of 50GT50 and some other models.

Somehow, I have not heard of these problems as affecting normal viewing before.
The IR problem reduces as more hours are put in on the plasma. So that is probably a temporary problem.
I am not aware of the other problems, but never heard a normal user complaining of these before.

I am not based in Mumbai, so cannot check, but would you be able to capture this on video?

Maybe, what he is seeing is just image retention, which can be undone by running the scroll bars for few minutes. I have a 50ST30. I have had image retention on my TV, but never had any image burnin problem, even when there was some static logos on the picture for hours.

How are you guys checking stock?

By hacking into Panasonic servers.

Just kidding. :)

Since I have been exploring Plasmas since November. I have contacted all dealers in Pune and now started getting in touch with Mumbai dealers too.
So, based on forum information, it is very easy to figure out where the stocks are. (mostly nowhere).
I also have contacts with Panasonic guys in Mumbai and Pune as well now to get information from the official source.

Next consignment expected after February 20th. 10 50GT50 and 5 50ST50 will come in my city. I am sure Mumbai and Delhi will get even more stock.

ok. strange that there are more GTs than STs coming in.

Anyway, a Panasonic guy told me that he can get me a 50GT50 in 3 days. Hopefully by Wed.

BTW, is there a owners thread on the GT50. How many glasses in the retail box?
