Sub Woofer suggestion please

At the same time I am wandering if I have done a proper setting for my existing Sub

I know there is no standard formula but here is what I have set to based on what I could make out by listening and also reading on forums

On Denon AVR 2113
Speakers : All set to small
Subwoofer Mode (though it may not matter) : LFE
LPF for LFE : 120 Hz
Level : -11 db (set by Audessey setup )
Crossover : 80 Hz

On Subwoofer
Volume : 40%
Crossover : 120

I hear all boom boom sound in Movies, best of Music leaves no impact in terms of roaring bass.

Ankit,
For music (Stereo/Direct) you need to set the crossover/Sub mode under Manual Setup > Audio Setup > 2Ch Dir/Stereo, please check if this option is available in 2113.
You can also try to set your front as large, Sub mode as LFE + Main etc. Sometimes you need a little tweaking after Audessey.
Reloating FS/Sub also makes difference how they sound :-)

just my 2 paisa...

I did try to play with some settings earlier and tried today also (manipulating Sub Mode for LFE channel & crossover, crossover, levels).

What I also did is reduced the volume of all Speakers to -12db and then I played some songs with thumping beats. All I could hear is some humming, hollow boom boom and occasionally some thump.

While listening to some scenes where Sea/Waves/Water splash/Bombs are involved, most of the time the Sub produced a sound which was like thundering ...nothing precise.

Is that waht one should expect from Sub Woofer?

Finally got Velodyne Impact12 delivered this morning, could not resist and I rushed from Office to Home to plug it in and test out.

Guess what?

My earlier Sub was faulty!!

This Velodyne, as soon as I plugged in and ran Audessey to setup... I was so amazed by the change in overall performance of my HT!! The gravity of deep sounds has gained such a beauty that now I could hear all thumps, blasts, slaps VERY effectively and clearly. The bass is soothing to ears and thrilling to chest.

I shall be playing with the sounds more and will try to post a detailed review

Thanks so much for everyone on board here for the valuable inputs :)

Cheers!

And below is the Picture of my HT setup :)

Nice. That's a quick decision you took. I like people who take quick decisions. :D

Try placing the sub in the corner if it helps. If you feel its ok, then you could just sit back and enjoy.

I must try various positions, before doing the homework I thought its better to get a good Sub first :D

You recommend Left Corner position as per Picture?

Hi Ankit,

the setup looks awesome. keep it up. I did not want to open another forum here on subwoofer recommendations. Here is what I want to know from all:
There are lot of forum in AVS where they discussed on having 2 subs and 4 subs and the point brought out was more is always better. that might not work out always.

So, If I want to upgrade my SUB, I was looking to buy 2 of POint1 sub from Astonia (10 inch). Is it good to go for 2 10 inch or 1 12 inch velodyne. Both costing same.

Kindly throw some light considering room dimensions are 12*12.

thanks.

For that room size, one Impact 12 should be great eventhough an Impact 10 is also fairly adequate. Anything more will be overwhelming.

Hello FMs......need help in deciding between Velodyne Impact 12 and BIC america F12(ordering online)......both costing around 30k........would really appreciate your responses....thanks

go for the true sub guys...
21" Avepa sub churning out lows down to 25hz flat!! :yahoo:

8", 12" and even 15" are good for mid bass but never for sub. if you want to really listen to and feel the sub frequencies then chose a cone size that can faithfully push the enough air to recreate that distortion free lows at appreciable levels on par with rest of the band. read on the discussion in below links,

http://www.hifivision.com/active-speakers/23553-avepa-zyphers-z-21-active-subwoofer.html

Zypher Avepa Sub - The not so little MONSTER!!

Avepa has 21inch subwoofer driver which is extended transmission line loaded to give plenty of extension in subsonic region and powered by 2.5KW class-D amplifier and active X-over. Though this is for large room 20X30 types, but subwoofers with 18inch drivers could be custom made thru Zypher Labs also.
Our forum member "HifiAshok" is proud owner of this.

Buy DSWmicroPRO2000, I got it yesterday. Initial impression was good it delivered tight and controlled bass. 1200 W continuous power and 2400 watts dynamic power from 8 inch sealed enclosure with passive radiator.

In addition it looks too good for any living room.

I never experienced such nice bass with my any of my previously owned Subwoofers, may be this 8" sub more suitable to my room size.
