Suggest a BD Player Budget: 5-6k

LOL..dude no one is connecting bluray player/media player/pc to tv using usb cable..it's connected by hdmi cable only. Hard disk drive where media files(mkv/avi/mp4) are stored are connected to bluray player/media player/pc by usb cable...it's for reading the data only while hdmi is used to transmit that data decoded by bluray player/media player/pc to tv...so you will get highest quality always.
avi/mkv are not format these are called containers where you can store various format of video(avc, divx, xvid) and audio(aac,ac3,dts). Now quality depends upon the bitrate of video file/audio file, format use.
For best quality video avc/h.264 and for best sound quality dts are to choose. As mkv got best flexibility to contain various kind of format we should choose mkv.
Iomega should play mkv..which means there is some issue with that file which can be fixed easily.

Just4Kix,

Thanks for your reply,

I have read somewhere that HDMI input provides better picture quality than USB input. But the problem I have is my Iomega screenplay Pro HD will not play mkv files but perfectly plays avi files, while the LG 47LM7600 TV plays all the formats via the USB drive.

Now when downloading movies they are available in both the avi and mkv formats, so downloading in which format will provide better picture quality.
Actually I discovered something a couple of months back. I have 3D SBS movies in mkv format. They would not stream over DLNA as the basic DLNA server (in PC) refused to play them. I renamed .mkv to .avi and viola! the movie started streaming.

Maybe the trick will work for you.

There r forums which give untouched bd disc file of latest bollywood/hollywood movies.. so of i download them nd play through usb or mobile or through laptop or through bd player which will be better in order??

I wonder about your internet bandwidth, speed, money in your pocket and patience to download 50GB per movie. :)

I am not trying to connect the media devices to the TV through a USB cable, but was just checking if I directly connect the pendrive to the TV and watch the movies will there be a decrement in the PQ?.

To put this simple out of the 3 options which one will give me better PQ?

1.If I have a movie of 700mb in avi format and playing this through my Iomega screenplay pro hd via the HDMI cable.?

2.If this same movie in avi format is viewed by connecting a pen drive via USB?

3.Now if the same movie is in mkv format and played through a pen drive via USB?

I have been using this Iomega Scrennplay Pro HD for the past 2 years and it will not be able to directly play the mkv files as the hardware is not supported and I will have to use a transcoding software.

Even assuming that a 1:1 rip is not 50GB (which the full size of the raw BD), and cutting off extras, documentaries, interviews, etc., the pure film may still be 30 GB. If one has 4 mbps internet, it translates to 512 kBps speed. To download a movie at 90% speed having high peers, it will take:

30GB 1:1 rip = 68385 seconds or 19 hours
18GB mkv = 41031 seconds or 11 hours 24 mins.

Add the bandwidth cost and power usage, it is cheaper to buy.

I have upto 50 mbps speed in my college so not a problem for me. :yahoo:
I get around 5 MB/S speed while downloading so in 1 hr at least 15 gb
So bring it on:ohyeah:

MKV Files - ScreenPlay Pro HD

It will make no difference in quality unless the video codec is h.264(MPEG-4 part 10)..and I can see your media player support upto MPEG-4 part 2..so all mkv files encoded now-a-days have MPEG-4 part 10 or h.264 as video codec..that's the reason mkv files won't playback in your mediaplayer.
Will suggest u to get a better media player like wdtv.

You can directly play from USB as your TV can decode the formats, but if you connect media player to TV via USB,it wont. You need HDMI connection for that.

Is this a right place for you to brag about the internet speed especially if you are using it for downloads of movies?
It doesn't really make sense to waste so much of power and bandwidth on downloading 50 GB data.
