Suggestions required - choosing speakers - add small surrounds or other options.

Dear All

Having read the wonderful words of guidence, I am encouraged to write to you seeking your valuable inputs in clearing a bit of confusion.

My listening area is a living room 16.5 x 10.5. Usage is 50:50 music and movies.

My AVR is Denon 250 BT. I normally listen at about 60-70 % volume.
Current speakers are Pioneer BS25 LR - https://www.hifimart.com/speakers/bookshelf-monitor/pioneer-sp-bs22-lr-bookshelf-speakers-pair.html and matching centre from same series. These sound clear and satisfactory.

I do not indent to add a sub.

I want to add a pair of surrounds to round up things or buy this https://www.hifimart.com/speakers/floorstanding/pioneer-sp-fs52-floorstanding-speakers-pair.html and push the bookshelves to the rear.

OR

Should I consider just adding an entry level surround speaker like https://www.hifimart.com/speakers/bookshelf-monitor/taga-harmony-tav-806s-surround-speaker.html and call it a day since I am no audiophile.

OR

Should I get a bookshelf speaker such as these wharfedale and make the pioneer bookshelf as surround speakers.

I am not a big fan of hanging speakers on the wall or addicting clutter to the limited space.

I suggest you to go with Pioneer floor standers as you are not intended to use subwoofer and also same brand will be better for timber matching.

If your room size is more than 14*14 squarefeet ,consider adding floorstanders as front. Else stick with BS.

Why you dont want to add Sub ?. Sub is a must component in 5.1 system even if you buy floor standers , it will not be able to play low frequency sounds <60 hz.

Better to look for surround speakers with same watts as your front speakers, as long as it matches it should be fine.
Dont spend too much money on surround speakers , it plays very less role. Instead spend more money on front speakers or sub.

For movies, you need a subwoofer. Otherwise you will miss out on dedicated LFE content from movies.. No FS (or) BS would be able to reproduce lows as a subwoofer does.

I am at about 170. So that means BS is recommended. I completely get you but I have slight hearing issues with anything that low. It hurts. Therefore kind of apprehensive about getting a sub. I have to see if adding a small sub helps things.

The lowest priced closest match is taga at 8k. Similar bookshelf is 14k. I was hoping that getting the floor standers would let me push the current bookshelves to the back.

Thank you for responding. I am apprehensive about getting a SW for stated reasons. I was actually hoping that the FS would be good enough to do the bass duty. Now I understand otherwise.

BS from the same series is available. Need to check if the matching SW-8MK2 is available or look for suitable SW. Any suggestions here. It has to be small and it has to be tight. Any advice about best prices. Kind of sad that these are priced at about twice the overseas cost.

Ok ..did not know that. You can better check Floorstanders before purchasing whether its not affecting your ears..., as Floorstanders have potential to play lower frequency than BS. You may stick with BS this case.
You may check with 8"subs , they will not be too loud .

Thank you, those points should help. I stay in a city which does not give you any opportunity to audition. I have seen a 8" sub of Yamaha on htstore. Will check it out when I am there next. Thank you all for the pointers.

I got a pair of BS from the same series for rears.
I also got a 8" SW.
I had not figured the SW would have such a positive impact.
