The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

Congrats vij. When you get the F8500 you'll be the envy of the forum... at least for me.

Booked the 64F8500 plasma for 1.85L after returning the LG LM7600 LED because I could not get used to the motion banding/DSE in sports scenes(also visible on solid colors when camera pans)... I then tried many LED models, every single LED had that to some extent. Guess I couldnt get used to the LED after moving from my 5.5 year old plasma.

Anyways will get delivery of the F8500 plasma in 3 days. Yes, its a blind buy - trusting reviews.

congrats! pls. do post your impression when the beast arrives.

50GT60
Any news for india launching????

Well - I was following up on that too - in Hyd, these guys have no clue!

I would still have gone with the 8500 - better whites, better performance in brighter rooms and certain SD beautification(panasonics traditionally dont do it as much as Samsung) :p

Or maybe I may have tilted towards the ST60 due to the lesser price...

No news about it. Infact, the moment I talk of Panasonic Plasmas, its almost like the sales guys/managers lose interest. Get a feeling like they have given up on it...

But the general consensus is that it will hit the showrooms before July.

TMC. I was following up regularly and today they confirmed that the TV is in 'transit' and available upon order.

I would have loved to go for 51F8500 but since it is not going to be released, I am wondering if I should extend the budget and go for 64F8500.
But I will wait for your reviews and your experimentation before deciding.:)

I have got some unconfirmed news too from Panasonic. Stock (25 pieces of ST60 at warehouse). It will take 3 days or so for it to reach brandshops.

If you have about 10ft viewing distance and comfortable with the price, the 64' experience is awesome! If u can manage light, then wait for big screen st60... u can save money.

And yes, I will post a summarised view of my findings wth f8500. I am specificaly interested in how it handles sports scenes... all leds I demoed at the store and the lm7600 that I returned had mild to moderate dse/banding that was visible in cricket/football broadcasts. My eye is like a magnet to that n distracts me.... lets see how this 8500 fares.

Well, I do not know if this is stock for Pune or the entire state or the entire country.
I will come to know only next week about this.

Meanwhile, everyone waiting for the new plasmas please put pressure on Panasonic India on Twitter and Facebook. Please send emails to their helpline and keep calling their sales/ regional managers.

Interesting.. is it going to be given free? Why customer should pressurise Pana to release their Plasma Models? For Pana India, if it is not making marketing sense in introducing them, even though enough demands are there, they are not here in the business to just make us happy. If they makes money and there are demands, it is in their interest that they introduce the same on an urgent basis. I can understand some brands are pushing back the introduction of new models based on the availability of last years models, but Pana plasma stock was almost over (except for few odd X & XT & UT models) last before Diwali, so what are they waiting for?

I think their Marketing and supply chain people are being paid handsomely by Samy and Sony's of the world to keep their product out of bounds of customers. The biggest gainer here is Samy, who introduced their latest range ahead of all and has already captured a good market share, which is all loss to Pana. Never can dream of a marketing strategy like this. I think Pana gets all the stupid marketing guys in their team.

You are right there... but nevertheless there maybe a reason to pressurize. The general feeling among the sales/management folks is that noone wants plasma these days and these regional managers get the inputs from the sales managers who are also fed inputs by the petty salesmen. It is to counter this that maybe we should call the managers and ask for plasma availability and hopefully they will feel there is some demand wherein they can make some money.

Although, in many ways their assessments may not be very far off - the common folk dont want elite plasmas, if they want a plasma, its to save cost and they would be happy with budget ones - but the management overlook the fact that even in India there are enough people who appreciate what the good plasma panels offer. When I tell people I am taking the F8500 plasma, people tell me I took inferior plasma technology compared to uber LED - little do they know :p

vij, they projected an ultra low demand profile for last year's Plasma TVs, and they figured out that they were wrong all the way as they exhausted whatever they planned to sell within 3-4 months. Now even after that they thinks they need to be pushed to introduce their TV, then they are a group of fools. Your sales compared to others may be lower in number still you are creating a niche market and should hold to it, else others will just eat you up.

Let's say, M&M is good with Utility vehicle manufacturing and they are holding to it like anything. Now if they thinks that most of the vehicles that are sold in the market belongs to hatch and sedan category and they should stop utility vehicle and start manufacturing and selling only cars like Verito (Logan), then they are doomedNobody looks to M&M for a regular car. Boss you should understand your strength and weakness, and target the market where you are strong and built upon it. Rather than trying to built your base in an area where you are not considered even in top3.

Last year Pana after sidelining Plasma, introduced ET & WT series in the premium LED section. Most of the people are not even bothered to give it a try. They initially thought they should price it at par and above the others to justify their premiumness, which actually backfired (initially ET5 was costlier than HX750 and LM6700). So they started cutting down prices like anything, and now the same thing is available less than 1 lac for 55" (97k at infibeam). So what's the point of trying hard in a segment where you are not that strong and ignoring the segment where you are really strong. Samy people are loving such stupidity of Pana guys, as all their losses are Samy's gain.

In fact when I bought the plasma, some of my friends even never knew the word "plasma tv". And whenever I stepped into showrooms and enquired about plasma TVs, the first thing all the sales guys cautioned me was never go for the outdated plasma TVs.

One thing is that 99% of the buyers are not aware of what plasma is and even if they are aware, they don't know the capabilities of plasma. It is only people like us (forum members) are aware of those things. By the way, I am not saying this as the reason for very low sales on plasma.

I am not sure what the case is in developed countries. Are the sales of plasma higher in countries like Japan, UK, or USA ?
