The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Hi,

As the experts here in the forum suggested it is a good decision. I am also in the upgradation mode and planning to buy plasma.

When I have checked few weeks back I could see only 51F4900 in one of the samsung outlet. Did you get a chance to compare 51F5500 and 51F4900 side by side.?

Some claririffication needed from experts:

Will there be significant PQ difference for most of the SD viewing ( Tatasky )
F5500 is FHD v/s F4900 is HD.

I was looking for a 51F5500 reviews online but I could not find.
Please share if any if you come across.

I did check the f4900 hd and yet to check f5500. ..f4900 had some reflection may be because of showroom lighting Pq is good..waiting to demo f5500. .

SD will actually look better if you observe closely on F4900 due to less video processing. F5500 will need to upscale to its native resolution of 1080p which involves more processing.

My own experience is that for SD, HD ready is better. But as going forward, more channels will join the FHD bandwagon, you might miss some fun, but HD ready PQ is good enough to enjoy FHD channels. Definitely FHD TV will be a bit better and also normally has better processing power.

The main difference is F5500 is full HD vs. HD-ready F4900. You will notice the difference while watching blu-ray discs only.

My guess is that, If resolution is changed, the entire panel of F5500 will be different from that of F4900 - meaning F5500 might show some significant improvement.

Hi all pro's..need your advise ..i am planning to buy plasma TV what would be the suggestion..Samsung 51f5500 i am getting for 70k in Chennai.Any good 2013 or old models in Panasonic within 70-80k( slightly + also)

You will get 2012 Panasonic 50UT50 for a slightly less price. But Samsung will have better processor and (I suspect) better PQ. You could go for this model. If you have scope to increase the budget, I suggest that you wait till the 50ST60 is announced. It will be around 95K and much (much) better.

These are the prices I got in bangalore. He told as these are new models not much negotiations possible now.

51F5500: Rs.73,900
51F4900 is Rs.61,900

2012 panasonic 50UT50 Rs.71,000 +

I think 70k is a good price for 51F5500 51" FHD 3D with networking builtin wifi etc added smart features.

Specs says the panel is 5 series in 5500 and 4 series in 4400.
Not sure what is the actual difference.

Anyone read about "Pentile" panels.? Is it used in any 50inch samsung plasmas?
I have read some -ve things about pentile panels in higher sizes ( 55 , 64" etc )

Hey akasmarty2003 - do we expect ST60D series to be released in India in the next couple of weeks? Do you have any idea on the price range? Cheers !!

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

I think if panny is releasing st60 in june, all plasma buyers should wait for it before taking a call. I am saying this keeping in mind the superlative reviews of this set.
Let there be a showdown between sammy f8500 and panny st60.

Sure. Sure. Let us all plasma fans meet sometime , sit with scotch in our hands and reflect on the PQ of plasmas.:)

20' ?? Even if u sit half way through the room, it would still be 10' away from TV. I Really suggest you to get a big TV. And as the size increases LEDs costs way too much, but plasmas will be much more affordable.

Yep thats the reason i started seeing plasma model's :):) in led i liked the sony w800 47" really nice..
