The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Are you sure about this?
I am told that new models will be available by end of this month, and that should include plasma as well.

I'm not certain about this but this is what dealer told me and Panasonic's service dept head for my town told me. Plus I'm staying away from panasonic now, have gt50 with me and waiting for a refund on it, customer support is just pathetic..

+1, its too much risk buying a Panasonic plasma with Burn-in chances and pathetic customer service.

Now, If Samsung just offers Burn-in protection under warranty then i will give them a serious look.

There is difference between Burn-in and IR, now days panel are prone to IR not burn, IR can be removed by playing full screen content for hours not stop with no static logo. Also IR is major problem in Panasonic, last year's samsung did really well IR protection and if its same this year Samsung owners won't have to worry about IR at all..

I know the difference between IR and Burn-in. Even 2012 Plasmas had Burn-in, even some members on this very forum suffered from Burn-in and that is the reason NO plasma company has offered Burn-in protection under warranty till 2012, lets see what happens in 2013.

Feedback on F8000 has been really encouraging on the international forums. Some kind of brightness pop is bugging them but not all owners have noticed them. Can't wait to demo the 64" beauty. Maybe it's the 64F8000 for me this year :)

What is a brightness pop?

I have been planning to buy the New P42S60 but no idea when this will be launched in India or not at all. Anyone knows about release of Panny 2013 models. I have been holding my P42UT50D buy just because of this.

Any views.

......

Refresh rate is selectable in 48Hz or 60Hz, but again this year the ST50 did not perform well at 48Hz as the judder (flickering) was too much to handle so again I suggest using 60Hz for all content.

Just copied the above post from the "2013 Samsung plasma.." thread to this thread.

I think the Indian version of ST50 does not have the option of changing the refresh rate. I checked through various menu settings and none have an option to change the refresh rate except for 3D viewing. It may be done through service menu, but I am not sure ....

One would be fool to buy ST60 this one compared to f8500, F8500 performed better than ST60 and is in same price range during festive season. Plus Panasonic's customer support is pathetic, I'm waiting for refund on my GT50 since months now.. Don't follow western countries. We don't get same quality panels which are sold in America and We don't even get full range of plasma's by panasonic in India. So its better to buy Flagship model of Samsung at same price as of panasonic's basic model.

This year Samsung is aggressive with their lineup with most of the show rooms having the plasmas in display ( may not be all the series ).

It is not even sure when Panasonic will release the 2013 models. Looks like a laid-back approach to Indian customers.

Just visited Samsung shoppe....their catalog mentions only 64" F8500. The sales, guy was saying 51" will not be released for F8500 model. That would be quite unfortunate.

Indeed ZT60 is an amazing tv and this review was expected but certain points what the reviewer noted has to be taken into consideration when anyone considers buying this television or the F8500 or even VT60 for that matter. And none of these 2013 plasma are true kuro killers imo.
The Panasonic TX-P60ZT65Bs black-level performance is either minutely better than, or as good as, the legendary Pioneer KURO plasmas. This years best plasma TVs are already producing black levels that completely satisfy us, making us less concerned about what the exact minimum luminance level (MLL) measurements are than in previous years.

All of this means that the Panasonic ZT65/ZT60 has the deepest blacks out of any large-screen flat panel TV currently on the market, but not necessarily the highest contrast ratio once the peak white performance is brought into the equation. Both the Samsung PS64F8500 we recently reviewed, and the Pioneer KURO plasmas, are able to produce brighter peak whites. You really cant go wrong with any of these TVs theyre all first rate but there will be viewers who favour Panasonics world-beating black level and sufficiently bright peak luminance, just as there will be users who prefer Samsungs sufficiently dark blacks and exceptionally bright peak whites.

I don't understand why would Indian buyer even consider comparing or thinking about Kuro, elite and ZT60 when clearly they are not available in India. Last year VT50 wasn't launched in India and it will be probably same this year with 2013 Panasonic models. I think Indian buyer should be really practical and compare models available in India rather that what's available in America unless they plan on importing it :P Even for sake of knowledge panels sold in India are different than American Panels, so quality won't be same here anyways..

as per the sammy guys the f8500 is available only in size 64" as of now but 185k is indeed a great price for a highend palsma this size

It will go lower than that near Diwali I think it will be a good buy at 160k-170k for 64" and 90k or under for 51" that is if it will be launched here.. with loads free goodies in festive offer ;) I'm planning on buying it during that time too :)
