The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

"my opinion is more correct than yours" i guess we are all victims of that habit aren't we? we been discussing F8800 VS ZT VS kuro on 140 posts? wow! that is a long discussion then:p

Just imagining how will it be if all the three of them were in my living room playing the same bd.:p
Would enjoy bright whites on sammy, deep blacks on panny and all through keep comparing them with kuro.;)

You bought ST50 for 105k? I bought GT50 for that price.. ST50 was sold for 90-95k from every dealer..

ST50 was around 95-100K mostly. However that was without the BD player.
So, 105K with the BD player is actually a good deal.
Also remember that the price came down towards Diwali season but the stocks also dwindled.

In Pune, that was the price on July, 2012. Note that I received a free BDP with that (worth 12k). Anyway, i am not complaining in any manner.

My dealer in Surat, Guj was offering me 110k with free printer, I told him to keep printer and give me discount and I got GT for 105k, someone I know here bought ST50 for 90k, I had plans to buy that but it wasn't in stock and I needed TV right away so bought GT instead which should be going back soon hopefully.

Amen. As I said, I don't care. You may have purchased a better TV for same price but you are forced to return it. I am having no problems with mine. Second, the Panasonic printer is not worth 3K even if given free - simply because those who want a printer, already have it, and a printer is a regular hogger of inks/catridges and thus running cost. Third, the BDP is definitely worth all 12-13K - plus I could make it region free and that alone is quite something (there are a very few BDPs that can be made region free).

On top of what you have said, you are not only having it problem free, but the most important thing is your overall satisfaction/enjoyment you get with the your TV. Is in't it ? :)

I just want all the reference plasma Gods to be in my home at one place. Later when plasmas are out of production, I can collect entry fee from people who visit my temple of Gods.:p

Panasonic plasma r expensive than the comparative models of samsung becoz of extra charges like duty cost as they r imported in india but samsung r made in India,so they r cheaper for us. Cnet has ranked panasonic st series no. 1 becoz they r value for money in US but not in India, they get it for 70-80k n we pay 1 lakh approx for that, so this way we should prefer samsung as value for money, between f8500 n panasonic plasmas vt or zt, samsung wud be better for us

Just one related note:

The 50ST60 is in stock and available in Finland for 1179 Euros. This translates to Rs. 84000. And this is with 3 years warranty.
With Global Blue, one could get a refund of the tax and effective price could be Rs. 72000. However, the shipping and customs to India will be probably much more.
Note: That is just in theory if the shop supports Global Blue.
I am hoping to check the TV by end of the month when I visit the place.

The same shop has Samsung 51F8505 for 2699 Euros (roughly Rs. 1.9 lac). Now that is very different from India, isn't it? :)

Does any one bought samsung 51" 5500 plasma?

I have booked the Samsung 51F5500 for 65k with additional two pair of 3D glasses as gift. Delivery will be done in approx seven days since supply is in shortage as per my local dealer. Waiting eagerly for my first Plasma TV.

2013 seems to be a big leap for Plasma away from LEDs PQ wise. Until last year, Plasmas did have competing LEDs that could compete PQ wise in the Sharp Elite and Sony HX90X/HX92X.

But in 2013 Plasma is a clear winner with absolutely NO competition from any LED set.

Sony W900 is way behind, and even the Sony 4K sets are not on same level as Plasmas.

Same with Samsung F8000 LED.

Anyway, will we at least see VT60 in India ? I would be interested in getting a VT/ZT since Sony offers nothing this year that can compete with plasmas.

F8500 is good but I don't want to buy Samsung.

Hi,

It is a good deal. How come you got such a low price !!!
The MRP in Samsung website is Rs.77,500

Selling price of 51F4900 itself is Rs.62,000

I do not see any great hope for plasma in India. Other than Samsung 64F8500, I do not see any TV of high repute. The other plasma models are mostly entry-level/low-end. Will have to wait till June/July for Panasonic to announce models. But here too, I do not hold out much hope. I doubt whether VT60 (leave aside ZT60) will debut in India. At most we may (hopefully) see ST60.

As regards 4K, the sets are good but they are in very big size and insanely priced. Bhai, people generally watch saas-bahu serials and 4K at 16~18 lakhs is definitely an indulgence, one does not need. At that price, one can build a very high-end nice and cozy complete HT room (with accoustic treatment and all). I like plasma but I am very sad to see the retirement of HX850 - HX9xx was beyond common man IMHO. But I feel that the Samsung 8 series edge-lit LEDs can fill the void very well. It does not do justice to be biased against any technology or manufacturer. For example, the 46ES8000 LED at 145K is an extremely good option (this was the price quoted without negotiation).

If ST60 is launched in India, I will suggest people to grab hold of it with two arms and two legs.
