The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Panasonic plasma r expensive than the comparative models of samsung becoz of extra charges like duty cost as they r imported in india but samsung r made in India,so they r cheaper for us. Cnet has ranked panasonic st series no. 1 becoz they r value for money in US but not in India, they get it for 70-80k n we pay 1 lakh approx for that, so this way we should prefer samsung as value for money, between f8500 n panasonic plasmas vt or zt, samsung wud be better for us

Don't think Samsung panels are made in India, pretty sure they are imported too.. even if imported, tax is 18-20$ on import of tv. St60 65" is sold for 120k in usa that is including profits for seller. and same panel is on sale in India for 240k or so. So yea regardless import or not Panasonic's almost double pricing never made any sense to me..

Just got a tweet reply from Panasonic.

This is like the automated announcement in various call center queues - Thank you ... You call will be answered shortly ... It will take approximately 20 seconds to connect you ... etc. After 10 minutes of holding, the message repeats the same message over and over again.

Basically the above is just an automated reply.

Did you see the VE shootout results? Looks like Samsung F8500 did a great job and overall winner. Well deserved I guess. Good year for Plasmas. Expected better of Panasonic especially ZT60.

There is no fun, its is known that F8500,VT60 and ZT60 are great plasma's with their own advantage and disadvantages.

oh and regarding affordable 4k i don't think is not the thread for that discussion i guess i already created a thread on an affordable 4k 50" television which many say is amazing for the price.

http://www.hifivision.com/television/43905-seiki-50-inch-breaks-ultra-hdtv-price-barrier.html

I understand .... I meant it more on a lighter note.
Anyway, many of us including me would like to see good debates, but sometimes they go too streched. For example we can see some comments like this: (Again, read this only for fun)
------------------------------------------------
Don't buy Panasonic plasma because it is not bright
Dont buy Samsung plasma due to lower black levels
Don't buy Sony LCD due to light bleeding
Don't buy Panasonic plasma because of IR
Don't buy Samsung plasma because of higher power consumption
Don't buy Sony because of it's IPS panels
Don't buy Panasonic as it may stop it's production anytime
Don't buy Samsung because it is a Korean company
Don't buy Sony because it is buying panels from LG
Don't buy Panasonic because it is not made in Japan
Don't buy Samsung because it is made in India
Don't buy plasma because it may make your entire house burn.
Don't buy LCD because it's of soap-opera effect
Don't ever buy LG
Don't ever buy Toshiba
.
.

(The list goes on ...)
------------------------------------------------

When we see comments (wild judgements to be more preceise) like this, any new buyer will go  Anyway, I am sorry for hijacking this thread. Hope good and positive debates continue in this thread rather than passing some wild judgements ...:) :) :)

Plasma fans are in for a treat this year and that is good news!

I guess many who were shying away from Plasma will give a second thought due to F8500's extra brightness.

Don't think there's much to complain on the top-end models from either Panasonic or Samsung. It will all depend on personal preferences rather than a strong case of picture quality differences. There's hardly any room for debate based on the close shootout results.

I am toying with idea of getting a 64F8500 :) Any one on forum did a demo?

What I like the most in the "Value Electronics 2013" conclusion is the appreciation Samsung engineers are getting. They made from zero to the top level. Frankly I never expected Samsung to build plasmas at reference levels competing with Panasonic.

Here are just my personal opinion/assumptions and so no debates please -
a. I think all plasma fans need to thank Samsung. I guess if Samsung wasn't in the plasma business , I get a feeling that Panasoni would have exited plasma long time. So it looks like Samsung is pushing Panasonic to be with Plasma

b. Even if Panasonic stops it's plasma production, I get a feeling that Samsung might still continue with Plasma. By this, Samsung might silently claim that it is the only company which gives the best of the best for the purists/videophiles. Of course, how long Samsung can continue with Plasma might be decided based on how OLED performs/matures in long run.

My applause to Samsung engineers for making the best plasma .:clapping:

I dont know what is the soon defination for Panasonic.

Some updates.

1. Launch on 22nd.
2. Will come to know what will be launched on that day, but probably no 42" plasma will be launched, only 50" (and maybe bigger).
3. Panasonic will launch mobile phones as well (hence the delay).
EDIT: http://www.bgr.in/news/panasonic-to-launch-its-first-smartphone-in-india-on-may-16/

Best way to speed up the process - post a message here: https://twitter.com/_Manish_Sharma_

Hi,

It is a good deal. How come you got such a low price !!!
The MRP in Samsung website is Rs.77,500

Selling price of 51F4900 itself is Rs.62,000

Had to do hard bargaining with my local dealer to get it at that price...However it has still not been delivered...Also I never did a demo of this model...so keeping my fingers crossed :)

Whathifi gives a rocking 5 stars to the latest 42GT60 Panasonic plasma.:clapping::licklips::licklips:

Regarding SD performance it says:

Even when given the most humdrum standard-definition fare to deal with (and lets face it, it doesnt get much more humdrum than a broadcast of Homes Under the Hammer), the Panasonic does sterling work.

Its upscaling abilities are excellent: images are bright, high-contrast and colourful. Theres an understandable softness to edges, admittedly, and a constant shortage of fine detail, but the GT60 grips motion tenaciously, delivers fine skin-tones and -textures, and demonstrates good apparent depth of field.

If your favourite TV programmes are only available as SD transmissions, the Panasonic GT60 plasma will make the best of them.

Regarding DVD upscaling:

The same upscaling prowess is evident when the Panasonic TX-P42GT60B is given a DVD of Skyfall to deal with. The GT60 brings decent definition to edges, even during hectic motion, and its already impressive work with colours and contrasts steps on to the next level.

And its when upscaling a disc that one of the long-acknowledged strengths inherent in plasma TV technology first becomes apparent: the Panasonic GT60s ability to deliver truly deep black tones and to offer decent detail therein. The numerous dark scenes in Skyfall are described with confidence, the Panasonic demonstrating the sort of insight into a coalhole picture that is simply beyond any comparable LCD rival.

Add secure motion-handling and a deft, natural touch to skintones and theres no need at all to worry about your disc-players upscaling performance the TX-P42GT60B has it covered.

Regarding bluray performance it says:

Of course, its with native 1920 x 1080 HD content that a TV like this comes into its own, and when fed a Blu-ray signal of Tarantinos fulminating Django Unchained the Panasonic GT60 is simply an eminently watchable television.

The wide-ranging colour palette is beautifully judged, this Panasonic plasma able to serve up the nightmarishly overdriven red tones as readily as muted sepia interiors, and the Panasonics expertise with black tones (which are truly, inkily black here at times) is utterly persuasive. Detail levels are sky-high, motion is handled with an assurance approaching disdain and contrasts are as strong (or as subtle) as required.

Long live the king(sorry..GOD) of plasmas....:clapping:
