I have just got the Panasonic TX-P42GT50 installed in my home. I will, in due course provide my selection and buying experience.

For the moment I will share a few pics and ask one question pertaining to avoiding the risk of IR. Using the remote how do I zoom to ensure that the channel and Tata Sky logos do not show on the screen?

Experts please help.

Meanwhile, here are a few snaps ( please bear in mind that I am not Henri Cartier Bresson or Raghu Rai!)

:)

Congrats !! You've a great TV so take care of it :)

To Zoom from remote, there's ASPECT button. Click it and you'll get a pop-up menu. You'll see Zoom, 4:3 Full, Zoom 1, Zoom 2, etc. Use those and see whichever works best to keep the logo out.

Also use the Scrolling Bar option from Menu > Picture > Advanced Settings > Scrolling Bar (if I remember correctly). Run for 20-30 mins after watching TV or you can run this scrolling bars at every interval whichever works for you.

Keep Contrast and Color below 30-35 and Brightness to -2 or -3. Color Temp : Normal or Cool. Keep this for first 200-250 hrs.

anubisX,

Using zoom basis channel formats- no issues.
Contract is 28, Brightness is -2, Sharpness is 28, Mode is THX Cinema.
Changing channels every thirty odd minutes.
PQ is not good at this time- understandable.

Don't worry, PQ will change in time. Also run the slides provided by @just4kix at night. Run the scrolling bars in between watching TV or after.

Congrats for having the best TV in town. Take proper care and share your experiences. Have you checked the Panel Usage hour as the date of manufacture seen in the snaps is Jan 2013?

Congratulations. It is a 2013 model but still a great TV. I feel that you could have done a little better than the price you purchased at. But let this not be too much of a bother now.

Congratulations.
Isn't GT50 2012 Model?
Hope it is with 3 yr panasonic warranty.

Ah. It is so nice to see somebody buying a top quality plasma.
Blacks on this tv will suck you like a black hole.
I seriously want to know or see how deeper it can go on blacks than my st50.
I heard that in a dark room st50 can go as low as 0.09...
What about its brother???

anubisX,

I will run the slide show maybe a week from now as the TV won't be switched on in this period - family vacations :-).
Thank you for the guidance.
Needed it.
Regards

Swarna Surjya Chakraborty,
Thank you.
The panel usage hour is depicted in two snaps that I have shared above. It was 23 minutes run and two times switched on.
Basis the advice on this forum, I was determined that I not be saddled with a demo piece. The dealer's salesman informed me that it was factory fresh and that it had never been opened before. I was skeptical.
When I went through the usage steps provided by just4kix in his excellent compendium thread and found out the data as above, I was convinced.

just4kix,
I am not too worried now as you say its in the past. In fact a friend of mine who picked up the other GT50 informed me that it was not a bad deal. He was in the 'cartel' which had picked up the VT20 in a package deal with fellow forum members from Croma, a few years ago.
I could have been a little more patient to reduce the asking price further but two things went against me : 1. My excitement at getting a GT (after quick reads of reviews after the same friend told me he was looking for one & none were available in north India), 2. I had to close many decisions before my family vacation next week

But now I can relax safe in the knowledge that I have managed to land a fine plasma model!
Regards

One more point re. checking usage hours: the Panasonic technician had no clue about the steps to check usage hours.

He informed me that I would have to call an 'expert' from Panasonic for it.
He also informed me that this was his first plasma TV installation and that he had not seen any such install as far as he could remember. Sad.

Re. measures to ensure no image persistence & image retention in my new P42GT50, I have changed/reduced the colour settings further today as follows with the earlier settings within brackets :

A.
Mode : THX
Contrast : 21 (earlier 25)
Brightness : -3
Colour : 36 (earlier 45)
Sharpness : 25 (earlier 33) : Should I reduce the sharpness further? If so to what reading?
Vivid Colour : Off

B.
The Zoom 3 is used about 90% of the time, Zoom 2 9% of the time and Just about 1% of the time.

Hope this is well within the safe limit.

C.
The channels are changed once every thirty (30) minutes or less.

D.
I will upload the slide show and play it as it is (slides change at 5 second intervals) through Panasonic Viera Media Player utility beginning tomorrow.

Trust this is in order.

Well, very refreshing to see someone successful in buying a plasma in the country.

Also, quite surprised to see you able to get a fresh piece of this model in 2014!
Was it from the Ghatkopar brand-shop?
