The Panasonic TX-P42GT50 television

Well, very refreshing to see someone successful in buying a plasma in the country.

Also, quite surprised to see you able to get a fresh piece of this model in 2014!
Was it from the Ghatkopar brand-shop?

Yes, even I think he would have bought it from the Ghatkopar Brand Shop.

I got my 50S60 from them in early December 2013 and had also checked the 42GT50 there too.

In fact readers of this forum will recall I was agonising over which one to buy between the 42GT and the 50S60.

I was absolutely floored by the PQ of the 42GT50 and almost pulled the trigger on it but last minute changed to the 50S60.

2 reasons, main reason was the bigger screen size, while second being that since the GT was a 2012 model, if by any chance something goes wrong, absolutely no chance of a replacement and I would have to get an LED as replacement. With the S60 there is at least some chance of spares being available at least in the first year!

But having said that, Buddy, you have undoubtedly bought the best TV available in the country in terms of PQ at this moment, congratulations :-)

I have completed approximately 200 hours of the slideshow, by operating the tv in the safe mode to avoid IR/burn in.

Now I am starting to view programmes, for a maximum of 30 minutes per channel, in the Just mode, with the following settings:

Mode : THX
Brightness : 30
Contrast : 30
Colour :25
Sharpness : 30

I revert to the earlier safe mode with every setting set at 0/ slightly negative in the slideshows.

Hope this is alright.

I think you are doing too much here. :)
When will you start enjoying the TV?

I have already started enjoying the tv ever since I came to know that 'achche din aa gaye' !

My next query :

The manual says for using the HDMI connexion, use a 'fully wired' HDMI cable. I called up the Panasonic dealer who informed me that the Panasonic HDMI cable is the RP CHE 15 or the RP CHE 30 ( 15 means a length of 1.5 m and 30 being 3.0 m).

Are these the right ( most compatible) HDMI cables for the TH-P42GT50D?

For, the World Cup is upon us!

Regards

Correct. From Mayur Electronics, Tilak Road, Ghatkopar East.

Its a January 2013 model to be accurate.
I will check with Mayur Electronics about the complete replacement bit- although I have had no cause for the slightest concern so far.
