Hi,
I have been looking for a AVR or a powered sub for my towers for quite a while. I searched for the Yamaha dealers in Bangalore and Thomsun (not Thomson), Indiranagar, was one of them. So with lots of hope I went to the shop, skipping my office meetings.
The first impressions was mind blowing. A huge showroom with out of the world collection. You name it and they have. Professional recording gear to old models of yamaha receivers, Grand piano to 30 types of mouth organs. Truely amazing.
All the chaps were wearing yamaha branded T-shirt except one. I asked one of them (who was sporting a goti and looked intelligent :lol
regarding Yamaha YTS 215 (active subwoofer) and he gave me blank look. I understood he wasn't aware of what I was looking for. The sub woofer was displayed on thier first rack as soon as you enter the showroom. So I pointed it and asked couple of questions about it (I normally do my homework well). He was even more blank. On asking about the price, he took out a chit from his pocket and read it out. From the other side I could see it was all blank.
Certainly he wasn't aware of the goods kept in his shop. He directed me to another person, the one who wasn't wearing yamaha t shirt (name Jason, I guess he manages the shop). My questions appeared new to him as well. Some more questions he was even more blank. He showed me a AVR which was beyond my budget, so I requested him to show me something within my budget. Well he was kind enough to understand it and quickly offer me a Demo receiver for almost half the price. I asked him for a quick test and his reply was "You will get it only when you come to purchase"
I guess his expectation is to fix the purchase before one gets to test a product costing 17K. Certainly not a sentence I enjoyed. To top it all he says "Its your call whether you want to purchase it or not". This was enough for me to decide that there are other Yamaha dealers in the City who have better selling skills. His attitude clearly showed he wasn'e interested to sell anything. This pretty much happened with another customer who had come at the same time.
Wonder why Yamaha gives dealership to such work force. After I reached office I searched for a contact # for Thomsun and found that it a company established by Saudi Sheikh. That pretty much explained everything. You can have money but that does not necessarily mean you will have the intelligence or the skills.
Anyone has contact (email id) for Yamaha office in India. I would certainly want to share this lovely experience with them, before they loose any more customer.
