Topping TP20 tripath 2020 amplifier (versus NAD C320BEE)

Just in case anyone is wondering, I am still using the Tripath TP20 as my only stereo amplifier and I am very happy! I've changed speakers and source since then, but the Topping remains in place, and doesn't look like being dislodged. The power supply broke a few months ago, but I just popped over the local electronics store and bought a 12V, 5A PSU and i was back in action in no time :)

Hey bro, howsit going? Any changes to your setup in the pipe-line?

The links point to kits , I do not know if he (arjen helder ) ships full body pieces not just kits upon request . I have sent him a mail on this.

How difficult is if we have got a kit , to procure the body in which to house it ?
Also what about the power supply for the amp from arjen or the ALPS BLUE potentiometer enhancement for tube pre-amp . Should I get it locally ?

Thanks,
Manish

Yes, they are kits and you need to case them. The good part is that the modules are completely assembled, you just need to have someone help you hook up everything together and case them. Any decent electronics technician should be able to help you for not a lot of money. If it was me, I'd go with the Alps that Arjen sells and his power supply, cuz I'm lazy.

Nandac, I think Psycho would be a better person to answer your question regarding the similarities between a Tripath and a tube...

Bought JBL Control 1 speakers from BitFang.com, its on its way. As is the Topping from Shenzhen, China. Sent on 28 Mar, Should reach soon. Looking forward to it...

Received the Topping Amp at home in Delhi today, though Indian post website shows its still with customs! Checked by wife and found OK! Now to get it to me in Baramula.... another wait of 3-4 days..

......... less than a week to go for ...... audio nirvana :yahoo:
Other than trance, hard rock ....... these two babies create near-perfect audio experience for the rest of the genres.

Did you notice any changes when you went from 2A to 5A power supply, more volume, better/more bass, less distortion etc. I would like to test mine with more voltage and current handling psu but unfortunately done have one.

I switched from a Tatasky adapter (think it was 2A) to a 12V 5A Meanwell SMPS. Did not notice any difference at all, which was a bit disappointing. Having said that, I currently have really bad temporary speakers (repurposed from another system) so I cannot say anything for sure except that in the same speaker, an A/B comparison sounded the same - but I was testing at fairly low volumes and almost non-existent bass.

Has anyone tried upgrading the caps on the input side? They're supposed to make a significant difference to the bass output.

Your stereo 2 and my stereo 2 (see my signature) should start looking the same .... picking up a SBT from a member here shortly. Would transfer the 6003 to the still-to-be-commissioned stereo 3.

Only difference being - I still haven't heard the combo!;)

just realized that the b&w lm1 which i use with the topping tp20 - its sensitivity is 91 dB. hooking the tp20 to the marantz cd5001, it plays very loud - but lacks detail, seperation etc.

Thats why 'trying it out' with the suggested few was recommended in the first place. The specs are'nt all that important always .... just a few pointers to make sure nothing majorly goes wrong during purchase.

Received my TP20 few weeks back currently paired with Old Philips HT speakers. sounding great for me. This completes my streo setup.Planning to upgrade the speakers in future.

^^^ Connected a newly acquired Squeezebox Touch -> Topping TP20 -> JBL Control 1 speakers ........ WOWWWWWWWW

What what nots? :) ... Goodness, what a mindblowing experience! So many radio stations ... all at the command of your fingers. Name any music genre ... from any country .... what a wonderous collection.

I know ... I know, am a bit late into getting introduced to Internet Radio ... some of you might be laughing your guts out. "Better late than never" ... thats what I would say as my defence now.

Newbies getting into this 'hobby' ........ give a very serious look into the above 3 items ........ flexibility & SQ is amazing!

So now I would be looking for speakers to use with Topping TP20 and ofcourse I need to put the kit together.

The links for the items I purchased:
Topping TP20

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Preamp

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Setup the Topping as under:Laptop>>Wifi>>Logitech SBT>>DAC Interconnects>>Topping TP20>>Good quality electric cables(16AWG)>>JBL Control 1

The sound is amazing! as if the curtains between the ears and speakers have been removed. Definitely worth it. Bass is a bit less but I am satisfied with it.Been listening to all my music for over 7 hours and seems as if I'm hearing it for the first time!

Edit: Been listening to music practically the whole day and it sounds really great, better than my main music setup. Using it in a 10x8 room and 11 0'clock for volume is more than adequate.
