But I feel that there is some kind of clarity and cleanliness compared to SR5006. There are some other FMs from Pune (@flash!) who are independently checking out SR5006 for its amplification quality; and seems like our notes are matching.
MArantz 5006 owners. Before I start off I would like to apologize if I hurt anyone's purchase sentiments
PRELUDE
I was looking for a HT setup for my second house and my plan was to not spend a fortune on amplification
So I borrowed a 5006 from a FM for 2 days to see if it has what it takes to satisfy my basic requirements.
I compared it to my 2 already existing AVR's Denon 4311CI (Rs 1.5l) and Onkyo NR809 (Rs70k)... Yes i know they are at much higher price points and not fair to compare them head to head with the 5006.
However I also have an aging Denon 2106 which I compared with the Marantz as well
Will stick to stereo Performance and not HT 5.1
Conclusion.
In terms of amplification the Marantz was a massive letdown. I was appalled from the very first minute. very feeble amplification with a narrow soundstage coupled with a not so decent instrument separation. My old Denon does music brilliantly and has more grunt and does everything better. The 4311CI is however in a completely different league.
To be honest I found the Yamaha 671 to be better than Marantz by leaps and bounds.
I have heard the topping only once and I can't really comment about Topping vs 5006 however. with a pair of FS i think i would prefer the Marantz purely due to added power requirements of the FS at mid to high volume requirements.
(( My personal feeling is that the low powered Topping would make my tweeters go KAPUT ))
So as Vikoma mentioned that we finds the Topping better than the Marantz in terms of clarity/separation. I would completely agree with him.
END NOTE: Using the 5006 internal DAC for stereo sounded better than using a cheap BDP/DVDP.
FM sagarvikram and me compared the 5006 internal DAC to the ASUS STX and found the Marantz better.
Yes I know... Strange. However it could be the result of changed op amps on the stx which could have caused the ASUS to be beaten by the Marantz
