Topping TP20 tripath 2020 amplifier (versus NAD C320BEE)

im considering them too for my Dayton Audio DTA 1 running off of TP2024. how would you rate the CA s30 then? what are the other options close to this one in budget???

there are some options in u allow 12k range
many are imported BS from UK includes TANNOYs and Warf
polks etc locally , diy FS pair

or used decent BS with 5inch+ drivers

I had ordered Topping TP20 Mark II from a hongkong ebay dealer on May 6th, and received it yesterday (June 6th). Cost of $51, shipping $20. However, shipping was done via ordinary post. Though there was tracking, it was difficult to understand. Once it passed customs, tracking was not available. However the India post tollfree could give details such as customs amount.

I was charged customs of Rs. 618/-.

thanks man, but any idea how the synergy of these speakers would be with this EXACT amp?? Thats exactly what i am strugling to find since the day i bought this. When i started my research and bought this, i seemed to find reviews everywhr on the web abt this but by the time this amp was delivered, i realised synergy is very important and infact also understood power could be a constraint. Now if i try to understand which speakers were used in all of those reviews, information is very little or nil. :( BUT as per my research, this amp is a killer at this price and i am hell-bent on seeing their beauty so that i can take this as a guage to asses my future purchases!

Take the trouble to read thru the so-many pages on this thread. All info regd synergy is discussed in details ....... so much thread-bare details on 'practicals' are not available elsewhere.

i actually did go through abt 20 pages of this thread i guess, but since you say it, i will go through this complete thread and hope i find my answers :)

I am driving PSB Image T6 speakers with TP20 Mark II and with SR5006's pre-out's, and they are sounding excellent. However, my source is old Philips DVDp, so I am not getting soundstage to extent desired. There is sufficient clarity, and no noise at all.

An interesting note: TP20's external power supply is made by Topping itself, and not some arbitrary chinese make. And that needs to be appreciated!

@ Vikoma ....
Possible for you to let us know one thing?
Where is it that the Topping is losing out to the 5006, keeping your source same ..... or is it beating the 5006?
Hardly have feedbacks of Topping with towers (here, a very well established brand as PSB)

IMO, it definitely beats 5006 in amplification. I am now using TP2020 as "regular" setup, with 5006 as pre-amp. Even without 5006 in picture, I think it is still better. The sound is very crisp and clear. The hearing distance is about 10 feet, and I have set the volume knob of TP2020 to 12'O clock position permanently. I use remote of SR5006 for volume control.

But I still haven't done A/B test. Waiting to get a DAC for that...

do you realise what you are implying here?

Well, I am still newbie; just started getting feel of good audio from last two months. I did ample auditioning before choosing PSB's. My tests are mainly classical, and some instrumental CDs - which I have commented elsewhere in the forum.

So even I am surprised to see good SQ from TA2020. It is still not perfect; I briefly had a old Arcam + NAD316, and that was superb. When I tried out these speakers in Lakozy (paired with NAD356, don't remember the source), it was of course quite good. So, NAD356 is very much on my list, but right now focusing on getting good source, and will be able to get good idea after that.

But I feel that there is some kind of clarity and cleanliness compared to SR5006. There are some other FMs from Pune (@flash!) who are independently checking out SR5006 for its amplification quality; and seems like our notes are matching.

we need a good surround decoder for less , this will save newbies for going AVR and wasting money ... i am sure topping will go great job for mini surround setups

MArantz 5006 owners. Before I start off I would like to apologize if I hurt anyone's purchase sentiments

PRELUDE

I was looking for a HT setup for my second house and my plan was to not spend a fortune on amplification

So I borrowed a 5006 from a FM for 2 days to see if it has what it takes to satisfy my basic requirements.

I compared it to my 2 already existing AVR's Denon 4311CI (Rs 1.5l) and Onkyo NR809 (Rs70k)... Yes i know they are at much higher price points and not fair to compare them head to head with the 5006.
However I also have an aging Denon 2106 which I compared with the Marantz as well

Will stick to stereo Performance and not HT 5.1

Conclusion.

In terms of amplification the Marantz was a massive letdown. I was appalled from the very first minute. very feeble amplification with a narrow soundstage coupled with a not so decent instrument separation. My old Denon does music brilliantly and has more grunt and does everything better. The 4311CI is however in a completely different league.

To be honest I found the Yamaha 671 to be better than Marantz by leaps and bounds.
I have heard the topping only once and I can't really comment about Topping vs 5006 however. with a pair of FS i think i would prefer the Marantz purely due to added power requirements of the FS at mid to high volume requirements.

(( My personal feeling is that the low powered Topping would make my tweeters go KAPUT ))

So as Vikoma mentioned that we finds the Topping better than the Marantz in terms of clarity/separation. I would completely agree with him.

END NOTE: Using the 5006 internal DAC for stereo sounded better than using a cheap BDP/DVDP.
FM sagarvikram and me compared the 5006 internal DAC to the ASUS STX and found the Marantz better.

Yes I know... Strange. However it could be the result of changed op amps on the stx which could have caused the ASUS to be beaten by the Marantz

Thank you for this wonderful thread..
Wanted to ask..What is the difference between the topping tp20 and the tp22?

I had a budget of 20k and if I end up buying this amp..I have the rest left for the speakers..So can anyone suggest me a pair that would be a good match with this amp in my budget..

Already searched around a bit in this thread and found a few options..Cambridge Audio s30, Usher s520 (don't know the price)..Also how would the monitor audio br2 speakers go with this amp..if they are still available at that price in the hot deals section..
they have sensitivity of 90db and impedance of 6 ohm..

Thanks.
