Topping TP20 tripath 2020 amplifier (versus NAD C320BEE)

Hello,

I couldn't find the post which u r talking about, lots of pages to read.

Please tell me which page number or please give me link.

Hai friends,
Do U have any idea about "Topping TP22" (with Tripath tk2050 Chip) amplifier. How does it sounded in comparison with "Topping TP20"? Can TP22 drive KEF Q300 Or Usher S520 spk. I am planning to buy kef q300 + Tp22. Will it be a good combo?. Need yours suggestion.

Thanks.

Hello! Take this opportunity to introduce myself. I'm interested in trying one of these amps and I have doubts about whether to choose the most simple and inexpensive (2020) for a total of 40 euros or go for the 2021 or the TP20 mk2 for 56 euros, bringing improvements especially facing speaker protection and a possible higher quality and durability of the amp. It is worth the price difference? I can damage my boxes with TA2020 in the absence of the safety relay? Be damaged before the amp?

And if you consider that rules out 2020, between 2021 and the TP20 mk2 which I recommend for: 2021 or more power better sound quality alleged that some say the TP20.

By the way, I have some boxes Focal Chorus 706s Focal Chorus 706S Bookshelf Speakers Reviews. Will have problems to drive them?

Thank you very much.

Settle for the 2020 chip only .... either Topping or Indeed. Yes, Indeed HiFi also does the amp with 2020 chip. As already reported in this thread, the 2020 stands out amongst all other Tripath chips ... for audiophile grade audio.

From the speaker specs, the Focal looks very promising! Go ahead, no damage can occur to the speakers running the Tripath chips. Just try not to go too much up on the volume pot .... but, you would receive enough warnings from the speakers for you to take necessary action.

What is the major difference between TP2020 and TP2024 chip (basically TP20 v/s TP30). The big advantage of TP30 is the USB DAC. If it's just amplification (how loud can you go) between the two chips then I'd settle for the TP30 just for the added convenience of the USB DAC.

I may get an opportunity to get it from the US and both of these are available on amazon for 65 and 105 USD approximately.

I have both in different amps. Both have different sound signature.

TA2020 is more detailed and balanced all around. Its real near to audiophile grade output. Max output power is rated 25W/ch in 4? (10% THD+N)

TA2024 is detailed same way but I found it little harsh and scratchy at HF. Max output power is rated 15W/ch in 4? (10% THD+N). So underpowered compared to 2020. After sometime it gives listening fatigue. It prompted me to repair my class-AB repaired urgently.

Friends,

I have PSB Image speakers which have nominal impedence of 6 ohms and min impedence of 4 ohms and I was suggested by some of the FMs that PSB Image speakers being min 4 ohms should not be paired with Toppings TP2020, however as per the Toppings specs includes " Max output power is rated 25W/ch in 4? (10% THD+N) "

Please can can some one help me understand that is the meaning of 10% THD + N in the specs and whether or not its ok to pair speakers of nominal impedence of 6 ohms with Toppings 2020... and if paired is it that the speakers or amp will get damaged or will it play at very low volumes? or the quality wont be good?

Will appreciate any help with above questions. Thanks

Naren

Best would be to try it out yourself, by borrowing an amp ..... There is no short cut to practical testing .... No, there is absolutely no chance of either the amp or the speaker conking off, if played at reasonably moderate levels.

In fact all tripath amp has something in the output, called zobal network. It maches impedance of speaker to amp. So these amps work for 4 to 8 ohm speakers without any change while 6 ohm is ideal. It will work without any issue.
THD+N (total harmonics distortion + noise) is all imperfection in output which are not part of input. Most useful level of both the chips are 2/3rd of max rating.

I'm looking to buy a t-amp too. Just find too many makes out there on ebay. Read a few posts recommending indeed hi fi lab. Found too many versions on there too.

There is also a MKIII Tripath TA2020 PCB 25watt Class-T amplifier SET sold by arjenhelder on ebay. I have no knowledge on assembling and attaching the rest of the parts.

It would be great if someone can share a link to the product from where i could purchase one?

Another question, has anyone purchased the tube preamp / headphone amplifier sold by arjen / indeed? How do they sound?

Cheers.

What about TA2022 ?
Topping TP60 T-Amp TA2022 High Power Digital Amplifier

More powerful, no doubt, with much higher loudness possible on speakers .... but, the finesse of the 2020 is missing by a mile ....

I beg a pardon, I don't agree. I have both the amps . If somebody interested we can do A v/s B comparison.
TA2022 is also equally good amplifier with clear and detailed soundstage. It is also considered as one of the audiophile implementation provided you use correct grounding and clean/separate power supply for analog stage. 2020 has no such requirement and runs on single rail PS.

Finesse here stands for the minutest of details that some of us crank our ears to listen to from the speakers ..... here, for 2020, it needs to be matching speakers.

2022 is also very clear, very loud, in fact, can go much louder to 2020. Also drive difficult speakers without issue. But the details which I am pointing to, is not present. Careful listening can prove it. Transparency and detail in the treble missing.

I own a 2020 and have carefully 'listened' to a 2022.

Here you talk about speaker matching. It must be sensitivity of speakers, otherwise output stages of both amps imply same circuit with only difference of power rating of components more in 2022.

The care for attaching sensitivie speaker and listening at sane level is taken for 2020 because it is low powered. You don't have power to waste. At same configuration only replacing amp by 2022 make improvement rather than decremental. If you crank volume then that is not same comparison because other factors of room acoustic come in picture.

If fact all triath amp are detailed, only harshness comes from choice of output filter components and power supply noise floor. Not to say they are more prone to switching noise leakage. It intrudes with source.

So bottom line is selection of kit is important and if DIY kit then little attention towards grounding, PS and switching noise isolation is required. You get what you pay for whatever it is 2020 or 2022. Basic implementation remains same.

My two paisa! Because I have built nearly 6 different tripath amps.
