Vinyl I am listening to...

Yesterday's session:

Pantera LP US version by Roco Records

Pantera LP Indian EMI print. Must say US pressing is way ahead in terms of tonal balance. But Indian version is much more expensive now than the US version.

@ peace sells
I'm talking about early 80s - for the later three KC albums I paid between Rs.150-Rs.200 each during late 80s. I never bought a single LP since early 90s. My vinyl collection is 20+ years old. I used to buy imported LPs from a local vendor, who used get them from foreign Counsulate employees & locals migrating abroad - on many occasions I got sealed ones too!

Oh no wonder! I thought you got them recently. By the way, it must feel nice to see/experience the entire cycle right? The peak of vinyl records era, the fall, and now the huge resurgence!

Shifted the entire 'music' unit from the living room to my bedroom yesterday. So i got up early today and listened to some music :ohyeah:

Jason Becker (My Idol and inspiration! Hope he doesn't suffer any more..) - Perpetual Burn

Black Sabbath - 13

Today's evening went listening to some of the finest compositions ever made in bollywood history with songs like.

MOVIE - HUM DONO MUSIC BY - JAIDEV SIR

1. MAIN ZINDAGI KA SAATH NIBHATA CHALA GAYA

2. KABHI KHUD PE

3. ABHI NA JAO CHHOD KE

MOVIE - CARAVAN MUSIC BY - R D BURMAN SIR

1. PIYA TU AB TO AA JA

2. DILBAR DIL SE PYARE

3. CHADTI JAWANI MERI CHAAL MASTANI

4. KITNA PYARA WADA

5. AB TO MILE HAI

I wonder how the sound quality these LP's are better than than the 80's one. They are excellent.

@digistar2012: IMHO "Piya tu" song from Caravan is a mastering wonder, specially the prelude upto RD's 'Monica'.....to me it has same effect of any good mono mastering ever done in west also.... and this effect is brilliantly cut in the vinyl...thanks to the engineer whoever he was. The full record has lots of experimentation, so I think RD and HMV put special attention to it.

As for 'Hum Dono', it's a 45 RPM 12" record having all the positiveness of it, of course the recording & mastering is also of top class.

Comparison to later (80's Lps) is not always justified as technology had a change after HMV opened their new studio in Bombay. Some of the 80's Mono records of RD(i.e. Harjaee, Manzil Manzil, Masoom to name a few) have excellent reproduction quality. It's not clear to me, in case of Hindi film songs, why such a big difference between SQ of various films/records existed. Some were too good, whereas some were crap. May be had something to do with producers interest/fund allocation towards music.

100% agree Bhaskar da. Also you find the song Piya Tu much more live in you open baffle speakers.

There are so many examples of Mono pressing from 1980s like Lava, Bond 303, Raksha, Kaun Kaise, Takkar, Rusvai, Aar Paar, Angur, Ashanti, Bade Dilwala, Chor Police, Dard Ka Rista, Dhan Daulat, Dhuan, Harjaee, Jhutha Sach, Kudrat, Namkeen, Phir Wohi Raat, Qayamat, Rahi Badal Gaye, Sitamgar, Sitara are of very good pressing.

Music minded producers are definitely behind this scene. While you see Rocky, Shaan, Saagar, The Burning Train, Alibaba Aur 40 chor to name a few are Stereo.

Shafic......for Western records, the important MONO pressings are those which came before "Stereo" became the industry standard, say upto 1967/68. Even in the early days of Stereo, Mono mastering was at it's Zenith. So they supposedly sounded better than their Stereo counterpart. Secondly, like analogue mastering is becoming a lost art, the art of good Mono mastering is almost extinct. So IMHO any Western Mono record upto 1970 is a keeper.
