Wait for April

I hope you are right!:) but then, this FTA is between JAPAN & India - and apparently it is for items manufactured in Japan and will be lowered in stages uto 2020 for many of these items. Realistically, almost all major electronics (TVs/BD Players etc)are made or manufactured in PRC - so I wonder if we will really get a wide range of electronic goodies duty free.

I dont think so!!!!. Presently all manufacturers have shifted their base to china and it is not going to make an huge impact on these goods.

In the recent times branded as "manufactured in Japan" is very rare to see.

regards

Guys,

Does this also means there wont be any limit of 25K INR for brining any (japan made) electronics from Japan to India by air ?

I believe Duty is free!!! But normal taxes will be implied on the item, this will be for shipping thru Land/Air, i believe this will be for the hand carried too..

The MADE IN JAPAN chaapa on any electronic item commands a huge premium. So import duties or not, it might still be more economically feasible to stick to Chinese and/or Korean imports. Although, Sharp TVs might become cheaper.

So does that mean Hifi Products by companies like Accuphase will attract lower duties, thus resulting in lower retail prices?

If the agreement between India and Japan is based on goods "manufactured" in Japan then it is of no use since hardly anything is manufactured in Japan now.

Such Agreement should be made with the PRC.
Maybe another eye wash by our Govt. 8-))

Sony LCD and LED's TVs price may drop then :yahoo:

Sony lcds are manufactured in Thailand and Malaysia .so i guess we won't see any drop in prices.

If a product was manufactured in Japan the price would be high ,since the labor cost is very high.
Just to give you an example in 2007 grey market price a X series made in Japan was around 20k more then the one made in Malaysia

atleast japanese made cameras and lenses will be cheaper!!

so now we can get a HD cam to click our av equipments and post it here :p

On a serious note, even waiting till 28th feb to 7th march would be beneficial, since a lot of duty cuts are expected on electronic items in budget 2011 and also better Income tax slabs :P.

Already, Sony has reduced its prices...hope its goes down further...

Most of the guyz out here are right, while mentioning the NORMAL / POPULAR brands shifting to China from Japan or other Famous parts of world...

But, yes there are still some brands and some models of some High End famous brands, who still manufacture there products in Japan...
And if what "Rejeeb" says comes true, then those HiFi equipments / components, will come to India at almost the same price of the Chinese equipments / components...
That means @ almost the same price or a slight extra, and will njoy the latest technology and High End gear...

So just wait n hope, to get the best of the both...

As per my latest purchase experience, somewhat higher models in same series Digi cams are still made in Japan where as the lower /medium models cameras are other countries.

canon/nikon lenses are made in japan as well as other countries...

the difference lies in precision and hence, price :)
