Wanted Help on Home theater Setup

Re: First Home HTIM Demo in life

Is it a closed Unit or saperate one like av,DVD Player and speakers ?.why i am asking is ,i am having the DVD Player .so i don't want one more piece to fill my room.

Its a HTiB which means DVD cum Amplifier built in one unit and 5.1 speakers connected to it.

Santhup:

I am scratching my head on your dilema. I really don't understand how to answer your questions. You like Barista sound, you did not like a HT sound, you want surround sound, but want to opt out of AVR and go for an amp.

Let us get a few facts clear:

1. You will get best sound in terms of music from a two channel system only. A HT system's (AVR or HTIB) sound cannot be compared to that. What you heard in Barista was two channel music.

2. You can get surround sound only from a AVR or a HTIB system. You cannot get surround sound for a two channel system.

If I understand you right, you are expecting the kind of sound you have set your mind on from a two channel system and are expecting that from a inexpensive HT system. This will be difficult.

What you need is a AVR that is good for movies and also good for music. Logically you should look at an entry level AVR from companies such as Denon, Yamaha, or Marantz and build on that.

Cheers

Sorry venkat i am trying to find the sound which i like most.

So my DVD player will be a waste right ?

Yes and No. What DVD player you have makes an important factor. You can have a best Home Theatre with worst DVD player and the entire unit will fall flat.

I would say dont have "having a dvd player" as a criteria for selecting a system. Select a system based on what you want.

My Current player is a basic one Philips DVP 3256.Don't know this is a good player or not for the HT. I am satisfied with the Picture quality not sure about the SQ.

Thats a good player. My suggestion is, since you have 30k budget, check out Philips 4750 its 22k. You can use that remaining money for something useful.

Same time, try the Onkyo models within 30k and take a call :) (models have been discussed in this forum)

You can always use the DVDp as a second player for your bedroom :)

These are strictly based on your budget

At 35k it is impossible to set-up a branded HT station. There is a local fellow Audio Craft in Chennai. Check him out. It was started by Mr. Murugesan and now managed by his son. Their stuff is very good and reasonably priced.
Audio Craft
No.37, Aathithanar Salai
3rd floor, Pudupet,

A sample of their product is embedded here

Do not go anywhere near any of the branded stuff under 30k like Philips/Smasung/LG/Sony etc...
To keep up with the demand for under 25K systems they have highly compromised on sound quality.

Good Luck:cheers:

I audiotion of Craftel (during intial stages and recently for my bro with my bros onkyo receiver) and its was good and i was mighty impressed. I love the fact that we have a good product in chennai. But I really beg to differ from your statement that says Philips makes substandard systems below 25k.

Why, after being in audio and video world for 10 yrs and using system from NAD to Denons, I still rate my Philips HTiB 4750 which 22k Very very very high compared to even branded Onkyo, Yamaha, Denon start-up systems.

Any day, Philips 4750 will give Craftel (any system below 35k of Craftel) a run for its money in movie experience and all round value for money.

Have you done a comprehensive listening of Philips HTiBs? From where is this statement of yours coming from?

I am very curious to know why you have slaughtered Philips in that league.

Philips makes some of the best VFM HTiB systems in the world, just that they suck at marketing and service. I agree on Sony though.

I wonder what you will say if you know I have three DVD Players? And two connected to the same system? And most probably, by end of this year, I will have a CD player and another DVD Player - hopefully a Blu-Ray player. And to top all this I will be using my PC as a source. So 6 sources for music and movies !! As my wife says, I am completely mad. and :yahoo:

Cheers

Hi Auditioned these systems.

Onkyo HTS 3105 Rs.22000
ONKYO hts 5105 rS 29000
YAMAHA RX-V363 +TORWIN Rs 40000
Denon 1909 +Pro FX Rs 40000

From this i liked the Yamaha Torwin Combination. Its was like watching Movies in a Big Cinema Hall. Can some One please provide more about this combination .The Next one liked is 5105... Please give some suggestion i have to finalise an one of this.

Other thing i didn't find Philips HTS 4750 in any wherein Chennai. is that product is died... ?Or is there any replacement.....?

Hi Santhu,

Yamaha 363 is good but not sure of Torwin speakers. You say the package is for 40K.

Whereas you are getting Onkyo 5105 for 29K. I have listened to it and it sounded good. The receiver in the Onkyo 5015 has more features than 363. You get auto setup through audyssey and more decoders like DTS ES and DTS 96/24.

If you are ready to spend 40K then you can audition Onkyo 5100 too.

I saw one Philips HTS 4750 in Blore e-zone last Saturday for 19.5K. It sounded great in that price range.

Thanks,
Prakash.

Hi santhukp good to read about your venture in to building up your HT. Even I am new here and this would be my first post. I am also planning to build up my HT. I would be purchasing a new appartment pretty soon and I have kept aside a seperate room for all my HT needs. Apart from having a good equipment I am also looking forward to design my room appropriately

It would be some time before I get the possession and actually start building my theater but I am etching to have some discussion as to what could be a perfect HT setup for the kind of need and budget I have. I will probably start a new thread for a detail discussion. Hope to get some quality help form the guns here. :)

Sam9S: I hope that you have taken into consideration about laying cable conduits (if the construction on of you new flat is not over) and as well as any necessary wall-mount fixures (LCD Mounts, Bookshelf speaker mounts if at all) etc.. this would help a lot in have a neat cabling for your HT.

BTW, advance congrats on your new possession.
