What media center software do you use ?

Media Player Classic Home Cinema is better than VLC or XBMC for playing movies and for music . Its exceptionaly very good for playing HD movies.

I am using new vlc 1.1.5 & it has much better PQ & has hardware acceleration option.PQ is very nice, sharp.

H... Just built an HTPC and I am using VLC player so far for all audio / video. But the interface is ages beind if you compare with what comes with most of the media player like wdtv nowadays.

interface quality does not convey the quality of the player. As much as VLC or foobar2000 are archaic looking, they are very good in sound production and formats support. They are memory hogs for a reason as they tend to minimize dither when playing off of hard drive based sources. Media Monkey has a good interface and much better than the bloatware called iTunes and its forever changing upgrade options.

I recently started using Cyberlink's PowerDvd 10 MKII Ultra. Better upscaling than Mediaportal+ffdshow & way ahead of VLC.

Tried 2D to 3D conversion of Avtar and How to Train your Dragon (the analygraph method as I don't have 3D display). Does fair job overall, though sometimes it makes mess of particular scene.

Overall very good s/w which almost caters to A-Z needs.

Media Browser best media center software but little costly $16 (with Cover Art 3 and Perl theme).Full support for BD ISO HD audio pass through, external player support and many many more .....

Could you elaborate why do you think it's the best? I scanned the features on their website and nothing really jumped out at me. If you've used XBMC could you do a feature comparison? I see you've mentioned BD ISO support and HD audio passthru

1. Better visualization than XBMC

2.DTS HD MA support which XBMC does not support.

3.Support for ISO file. XBMC does not support ISO.

4.Bluray Disc and DVD Disc support XBMC does not support Bluray and DVD Disc.

5.Third Party Player support. You can use any player with Media Browser (Klite codec,Power DVD, TMT etc..)

6.Better Movie management.

7.Better theme (see Pearl screen shot).

8.Better plugin support.

9.And etc etc. Please install Media Browser with Perl theme,Cover art3,IBN People Provider and Mediainfo Provider plugin then compare it with XBMC you can clearly see the difference.

I have 200 DVD ISO and 20 Bluray ISO in my collection. If you don't have any ISO and play only small MKV file then XBMC is fine for you.

True I don't have many Bluray ISOs (just Alien) but I do have 400+ 720p and 1080p rips (about 50 full-BDs) and about 600 odd dvdrips that I've kinda given up on (can't go back to SD after HD)...

the Pearl UI reminds me of Alaska Revisited which is great looking skin but nasty for mouse use

Looks like I'm gonna have to load this up... :yahoo: some fun for the weekend...

Thanks guys !

I have been using the xbmc for a few days now and i am impressed :)

btw i am just loving this htpc. it is a major major upgrade frmo my wdtv especially for movies and dolby 5.1.

thanks
Sachin

Hi, do you get 1080p/24Hz output while playing 1080p video content?

As far as I can make out, Media Browser is an aggregator and and an UI. It does not have any player. So what player do you use?

Cheers

I use Front Row & Plex when I use my Mac (most of the time), XMBC, WMC & Nero (to a small extent) when on Windows 7 and hacked MythTV on Linux...

Hi, I have just set up my imac as a HTPC with plex. would like to know how you configured plex for audio/video. I am getting 1080p/24Hz on video but would like to check audio settings. ALso, what setting do you change in audio midi setup?

Regards

J. River media player - I find this player is altogether in a different league. Using vista or later you can clearly identify the difference between ASIO and WASAPI. In foobar I could not differentiate between ASIO and WASAPI.

I'm using XBMC extensively. Its great for cataloging your media collection and for playback too. Yes, MPC-HC has a lot more options but XBMC does provide an equally good playback for those looking at an integrated solution. If you're willing to put in the extra effort, you can customize XBMC to use MPC-HC as an external player. Plus, the upcoming version of XBMC ("Eden") is supposed to have substantial changes to the video and audio sections of the software.

+1 for that, I am using WMC+MediaBrowser+sharkcodec.
I have Microsoft Wireless enetertainment keyboard, it has WMC button on keyborad so one button press and i am in movie world.
