what price to pay?

Hi Sharad, I am currently using a SuperPro USB DAC707. Its just the size of your palm and it takes - USB, optical, coaxial inputs - Got this from US second hand for 90 dollars (new 110 dollars). It uses the flagship Cirrus Logic DAC CS4398. This is the same DAC chip used in latest Marantz CD6002. But again chip alone doesnt mean much, but still I think this is a great VFM, particularly, if somebody has a DVD player and mp3's in their computer like me - connecting both immediately took them into the next level.

Hi Gopi,

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Can you also provide more details regarding your external DAC? Which make and model is it?

Thanks,
Sharad

Hi,
Just another one with a recent buy of external DAC.
Am using a MDHT Paradisea fed digitally from Toshiba DVD SD3960, to my Marantz amp out to RS-6. Sounds great, and have put off CDP purchase...

Hey!Pbr,
Where did you get one & how much?? What are you comparing it with??
Regards.

Hi Gopi, Thx for the detailed post, I have upped my budget for speakers as i dont want to upgrade for next 5 years. The speakers are the most difficult to decide on, so am going to go out and buy a amp + CD player and tour around listing them with different speakers:D
The DAC is a great option. How important are the stands incase i settle for bookshelf speakers?
Help on Dali dealer in Mumbai pls.
Regards

Always great to have more money to get better products :D So, good luck with your speaker hunt. As far as stands go, I dont have one and mine rests on a wooden cot. I think if you keep them on a solid surface with enough room, thats good enough. Anything more is likely to bring a very minor improvement imho. Whats more important will be the placement in the room and the room acoustics itself.

Hi Gopi,
I only partially agree with u. Positioning is very important agree in toto.
When i bought my standmounts i had them on wooden stools for the first week or so but they definately sounded better(much better bass response) and more full bodied when i put them on solid stands.(not neccesarily expensive stands). I guess apart from the inert nature of the stand its the spikes at the bottom that play an important part .
Hence i feel if u are shelling out and buying a good standmount u will never really exploit its full potential on a sideboard or table, stools etc.
In short Kunal U need stands too. Sorry to add to ur expenses.
Regards

Hi Neo,

The MDHT DACs (its a non-oversampling (NOS) dac)are sold only via ebay by the Taiwan maker; and is listed as and when he makes it. Search ebay.com, and read his feedback. I got mine for $500+sh, and I have since changed the output tube (!!) to the recommended WE396 tube.
My old CDP is a Sony CDPXE-300 (1998), and was looking to replace it with either Marantz CD6002/7000 or the Onkyo dx-7555.

Regards,

I've been using the dyna 52 for some time now & i've yet to come across a spk with a better (true) tonality & balance. I aslo feel the 52SE is a real bargain. I've heard the MA but ve not liked them over the dyna.
Yes the more expensive dyna's sound better. All dyna req good clean power a NAD/ CA would work but would not extract the dyna true potential.
Give a listen before deciding.
Hearing is believing.
All the best.
Cheers.

new, spare the CA owners mate. You know Dyna, CAs cant push them :p

Stands are important;

What material do you recommend for stands ?

What should their weight be ? Speakers should be heavier or the stand heavier ?

Spikes are important ?

:cool:

Does AG do Dali ? This is news to me ? From when ? Did he take the D & D back ?

He had lost is 1 year back. At least that is the info I had got;
Maybe I am 'ill-informed' !!!! Sorry ;;

:(

Hi SHANTI,

You are not ill informed. Officially TS is not doing Dali anymore. Just that AG still has some of the stock (last i spoke to him).

Old Stock - Clearance Sale !!!

Ok Ok !!

It is old stock that AG wants to sell;
I am sure Viru will give the Dali 'away' at a 'considerable' discount !!
Nice products. Most [some] are made in Danmark - Some in China.
Good VFM. I like Dali.

Excellent VFM I'd say, at least their latest range IKON. Considering that Indians don't have many of well known British brands (easily available) here, Dali sound is like a bliss in disguise. But don't you dare get me started on that.

Where is Mumbai can I pick a Marantz 7001 CD Player? (grey mkt pls)

Try "Sound Out" at Heera Panna, Haji Ali. I forget the shop number but when you enter from the Pedder Road side entrance you need to go straight down that first line and keep a lookout on your left for a split-level shop with stairs and stacks of AV equipment. Maybe they've fixed their sign now but earlier it was easy to miss.

It is not a guarantee you will get it there as they import stuff occasionally but it is worth a try. The other option is Fairdeal but I have not been to them.
