Which bike to buy?

Be a Man ! Go for Bajaj Pulsar. Riding on a Pulsar-150cc for more than 3 years now; still it's very much restricting me to buy a Car. And the rear-seat-owner never complaint me !

I guess the price will go to 70k.
Thinking of Unicorn but even that is 75k I think. If I go for Pulsar or Unicorn my mileage will go down I guess.

under 70k + mileage.. what suits best are the 125/135 cc rides.

look forward for honda shine/yamaha sz-r /discover 135/
these will be a lot better than the 10 y old 100cc and will give good mileage.

also flickable in city traffic.

the jump from 125 to 150 is not much so you can happily settle down with these..

yamaha sz-r / gladiator are good options... butter smooth and good power delivery..

Guys finally the D-Day has arrived I need to make a final call on which bike to buy. Thinking about yamaha fazer but not sure about the mileage or the price.
Also heard from someone that if the bike is heavier person riding it will have lesser impact on back compared to lighter bikes. Is this true?

May have to settle for Honda Shine or Honda Dream yuga otherwise Unicorn or Fazer.

Fazers are good machines. The ride quality is also good. The high torque make it easy to ride in city with out much gear shifts. But mileage, you can expect around 40kmpl only.
Unicorn wins here with 50+ kmpl in normal city rides!

If you are really looking for mileage go for Dream Yuga, recently read a test report on it where it got close to 70kmpl!

seriously... that too a CI ... man he said a mileage bike and low maintainence

and buying old RE that too for a noob is like jumping in unknown waters. you know the depth once you are in...

stick to Hero moto corp/honda commuter segment and pay for petrol rest will work just fine.

i used to own a hero honda .. now running a bullet from 6 years .. The reason I recommend it is simply the ride quality.

Maintainence is there .. but that is for every bike rite ?

I thought bullet CI was good ?

Bullet I guess will be very heavy on my pocket.
Guys how about the thing wherien the heavy bikes are supposed to give better back support?

If you need the bike just to commute solo and not more than probably 20-30 kms a day, go for one of the 'Splendor' variants that would work out cheaper. If you commute more distance than that or if you need your motorcycle to do short trips (about 50 kms) with a pillion rider and you do not worry too much about 'mileage', then consider an Enfield. When I say Enfield, I am referring to the older models, not the latest unitary construction engines. BUT, the Bullet needs regular maintenance. It CANNOT run 6 months without a service unlike the Japanese commuter bikes. As long you are disciplined enough to take regular care of it, the Bullet is an awesome choice. If not just go for the cheapest Japanese commuter that you feel is 'just right' for you.

Hi Andy the Fazer is a looker:licklips:
If mileage is your top priority then there is no point looking at fazer.
If you want something light on your pocket the Twister is a better bet. Looks good ( in Red(personal choice ;))) , & a great engine in it's class. Only the tyre looks a size too small. But should at-least give 65kmpl. Strange nobody has suggested Twister for someone looking for Mileage and looks. Please Test ride it and decide.
All the best.
Samuel

Actually I was thinking of Honda Shine and Dream Yuga but as mentioned in some of the posts many people were saying that a heavier bike is better.

Also my budget looks tight at 70k unless the thing is really great!

Most of the heavier bikes have better suspension than commuter bikes, which is the main reason for better ride quality.

As I mentioned before, check for Unicorn(but check for availability in your area,as they have long waiting periods in most of the places), it is spine friendly, heavy(around 140kg), good mileage for a 150cc bike, and enough power.

Fazer/FZ are also good in ride quality, but mileage. Also it doesn't fit your budget. SZ-R also shares the same mill from Fazer/FZ, slightly de-tuned for fuel efficiency, and riders report mileage of around 50kmpl

Also you can check for Hero Hunk/Xtreme (I own a Hunk :)), they are good in ride quality and mileage of around 45kmpl.

CI's are certainly good.. but i am the guy who will not ride it if the valve makes a slight sound.. if its bout a bull i want it to be perfect.. like a beating heart and not the push rods and tappets making noises...

yes the last long like anything but trust me they are no where close to the new japs..

its not hassle free. you cant tow it if you get a puncture. normal mechs wont be able to open the tyre of the old bull for if they open they cant put the chain set back.. lotta things.. the joy of riding is certainly there. the thumps makes the new kid around the block jealous .. but everything comes for a price. i love my bull but practicality.. no no

Honda Unicorn is the most beautiful & classy bike ever made in India... Leave aside the big techy bikes (R15, CBR XXX R & others).

A fantastic practical bike for day to day riding & an outstanding gearbox. I am yet to come across a bike that is better than Unicorn Gear box....

Gear changing is a pure bliss on it...Very good ergonomics, excellent handling for a commuter bike, more than sufficient power for modest speeds, comfortable for pillion & good mileage....

I own a Karizma R for close to 3.5 yrs.....But i still love the Unicorn for the smooth engine & good ergonomics....

My only wish was it would have been better, had it been a 200 cc Bike...
