Which bike to buy?

I am picking the Unicorn for my son after many test rides. Its a best buy from what is currently available

it indeed is a good buy and the most refined engines from honda in india.
even the top of line honda's in india aren't that smooth..

andy78,
I too can vouch for unicorn.

Reasons for Recommendation:

I still commute 60km daily ,50K km done since 2004 ( purchased the moment this was available in bangalore ) and no major issues till now .
Avg mileage - about 35-50 Kmpl.
top speed is about 80-85 kmph - I almost do it on daily basis, and is very stable - hence the mileage of 30-35 .
the preference is over Activa, Splendor and Alto sitting in the garage - Starved for Attention and not because I have only unicorn at my disposal.

Only headache is with the Servicing guys, I need to have a thorough check after every service. - These people often loose a nut and screw and you have an open invitation at random hospital on the road.
P.s
I'm planning to move away from Honda for this reason.I'm in market for new Bike.

thats the irony of ASC for honda in india.. they make a rock solid product.. but it stays reliable only till the ASC touches it.. general servicing takes no more than 1 hour.. sit and get it done in front of your eyes. be assertive an aggressive. most of the times talking to the manager solves it..

Ok guys finally decided on Unicorn unless there is a last minute cash crunch I may go for Honda Shine. Now have to see which color is good.

Thanks for all your suggestions. A special thanks to Aman.

Hi
Good Choice!!!!!
Please stick to the Unicorn only!!!!!!!!

This Honda will keep you reasonably happy for a while.
Great hassle free commuter in my opinion.

Nowadays RD350 are being quoted 'crazy' prices like 1.8L to 2.2 L if you have STD bores! I feel like breaking my head for not buying an RD for 13K in 2002 .. :)

I have not got such offers!!!!!!! I would sell it now for this kind of money.
Best offer for a good condition black RD I have got a while ago was 1.2L INR. Buy an RD only if its not going to be your ONLY BIKE.
Best offer I got for 1988 RX is 30K but people have claimed they have sold machines for much more.

In my opinion these bikes had their time & are not worth getting into anymore!!

I've seen a quikr ad of a full condition RD in coimbatore for around 1.8L(around 6 months ago)!
One should buy an RD only if he's a hard core fan of two strokes and RD and ready for wild hunts for spare parts.
RX100's prior to 90's are quoted around 30k saying they are original Japan engines.

Have been buying & riding bikes from 1986. First bike I ever rode was an uncles 1957 Royal Enfield.
My first bike was an RX 100 bought in 1988 which I still have. Bought & sold too many after and now only have the RX, a 2006 Karizma (everyday commuter) and a 2012 Kawasaki 650.
Apart from these I also have cousins who ride & hence am lucky to ride almost everything thats out there!!!
Great to see a few blokes here who share my passion. HIFI to me comes lower in the chain while bikes are up there!!!

dinyaar, Is that the mag dyno Bullet? I mean your Uncles bike?
Did you see the new Ninja 650 pics? They have really spruced it up.
Btw, I too have a Karizma as my daily ride.

Great to HFV FM's are interested in bikes too. And Karizma has always been my dream bike:)
I'm also much interested in bikes, started the passion on my Dad's Chetak, then Vespa, then Splendor.
I am riding a HH Hunk now.

theironhorse - are you in XBHP with the same handle?
I've seen this handle there.

Go for Honda Unicorn if you still left with your purchase, this bike is best in class in terms of mileage and power.

Hi iaudio,
Actually it was my late grandfathers bike & is in a place called called MHOW , in Madhya Pradesh. His youngest brother who is almost 80 now still rides it!!!!! Have ridden it last in 1994 & am not sure about the mag dyno querry. To be frank I am not a bullet person, more into Japanese machines.

I own the new Kawasaki 650 :D:D so no need to see pics!!!! It is very different from the 2011 model & in my opinion better. I really like it even in stock form .

Karizma has been a trouble free commuter for 6 years for me. Very comfortable.

Satson I dont know if one should buy a karizma in current times. I know it is much cheaper than the CBR 250 & the Ninja 250 but there is a lot on the horizon. Maybe a 300 Duke & bajaj is pretty aggressive on its pricing. 2013 will see the new 300 CC Ninja in India and if priced well should be one of the best bikes for young bikers. Rather than buy a new ZMA I would buy a used CBR 250 & at least in Bbay there are always a few available. Like in HIFI even in bikes one outgrows the machine too fast and craves to jump to the higher class & in my opinion the CBR can keep a young guy on a budget relatively happy for a while. I think the initial teething troubles too are being sorted.
