Hi Friends,

Wanted to buy a 40 inch LED TV. I don't need 3D.
Had narrowed down between Sony EX 520 and Samsung 40D5500.
EX520 costs 65k Bajaj, Panjagutta and Samsung 40D5500 at Samsung showroom 60-61k. Samsung has 100 MHz motion flow while Sony has X-Reality Picture Engine. Which one is better for SD viewing, as we watch it 80% of the time.

Which one is good, please suggest fast, Had to buy today? Any Other models in LG, price range shud be between 60-70k. Thanks....:)

The Reality engine is the brandname for the video processing module of the Sony brand. The Motionflow 100 is the display rate doubler. Both are different and is not substitutable with each other. If you want smooth display better display for fast moving action like sports, Please go for Motionflow doubler models. Sony and Samsung, both have them. The display engine is same in both the cases - Sony as well as Samsung. Having said that, The Reality3 is the new version of this processing software of the Sony brand. This is supposed to be better version of the Sony TV and is available only on the latest models.

Hi, I dont think 40D5500 has Motion flow. It is still a 50Hz TV, which with some techniques like backlight control & chipset technology creates equivalent smoothness as a 100Hz TV (as claimed by Samsung).
I think you can go with Samsung if they can give you a panel which is not "CN" version.
Also, pricewise someone indicated that 40D5000 is offered at 56.5K
So, try for a better bargain as I see no feature differences between 40D5500 & 40D5000.

Hey ,

I am also planning to buy a TV and also zeroed down to the below two sets. Which one is the best one?

Hi sajjad4joy-> Which one you bought and what is your experience till now.

Hi Vineet,

Not yet bought coz the Samsung person told me that the D series will be arriving in a week's time and he only has the display piece to give, if needed urgently. I'm more inclined towards Samsung as I watched Sony Ex520 in a showroom and wasn't much impressed with PQ.
But just came to know yesterday that 40 inch Ex520 is available for 58k. That price is a steal so have to check it out. And I will try to check in the same shop for 40D5500 price and let you know the price.

Hi Vineet,

Didn't bought the TV yet as Samsung person told me that he didn't have the stock of D5500, only display piece available. He asked me to wait for a week.
I heard that Sony EX520 is available for 58k, so have to check it out.
I will be going to Secunderabad tommorow to check both D5500 and EX720 prices and then decide.

Sajjad.

The D5500 is a better featured model then the D5000.Since its part of the Smart Tvs from samsung.

D5500 Has 100hz refresh rate where Sony EX520 has 50 hz.

The samsung 100hz isn't the same as last years 100hz found in series 6,its like the LG psuedo 100hz.

The series 6 now advertized has 200hz which is the last years frame interpolation+scanning backlight.

Thanks Sajjad.

In Delhi, the best price in the shop near to my place for the samsung 40D5500 offered is Rs58.5K. I am more or less made up my mind for samsung but not sure abut the refresh rate and its impact on the picture quality specifically cricket match etc.....I tried to find the specification for both the sony and samsung but seems they are not yet published as brouchers or on net.

huddlendeal.com has the 56.5K deal. This guy is a genuine samsung dealer. So, you could try for similar price in Hyderabad.
Shopkeepers will generally say that if the other guy is giving a specific deal, then they would offer the same. So, you need to pressurize them that you would go for it right away, if they close the deal.

Hi Guys,

I bought Samsung 40D5000 for Rs 55,300. The TV is a beauty to look at. SD quality is Average to Good depending on channels. HD Quality is Awesome. USB can play all formats with Subtitles and thats a great plus. 720p Quality thru USB is awesome.Tata Sky HD channels looks really great. So loving it till now.:yahoo:

The Only Negative is that it does not have Stereo Out only Optical Out, so cannot connect my Altec MX 5021 .

I will post a small review and photos soon.

Sajjad.

Which panel did you get.

@sajjad4joy: Many congratulations to you. A complete review with some pics of your new tech-toy is now much awaited. BTW, regarding the connectivity of your Altec, try connecting it through the headphone out as this might work. All the best for your TV and enjoy it to the fullest.

Congrats Sajjad. You have got a great TV without spending too much. Did you get any freebies? Great to see newer models available at lower prices. Exactly 2 months back, I got my C5000 for 58k. So, an advanced & newer model at a cheaper price is definitely a great buy.

Congrats Sajjad on a good choice that you have made. I also got myself another sammy i.e. UA40D5000 (45.5K grey) and am greatly impressed by its picture quality, though the build quality of C series (last year model) was better. Panel is AA02.
