i was researching a bit for buying a LCD-LED tv (not 3D) in the range of 60k. Preferred choices were samsung or LG because of service availability issues. Sony is good too but feels a bit overpriced for the features.
Finally narrowed it down to Samsung 40D5500 RR and LG 42LV5500. Both between 58k-60k.
Both TVs look almost the same with same bezel finishing and almost all the tech specs are same according to their respective websites (Full HD, Wifi, DLNA, 4 HDMI, 2 USBs, Ethernet, power consumption et al). Both are advertised as SMART TVs meaning both have built-in web browser along with apps, difference in the fact that samsung supports flash 10 (on most of the websites) but LG supports upto flash 8 which is as good as no flash .. Still Youtube and such applications are available in both of them.
I am more inclined towards LG 42LV5500 because of the extra 2 inch and also MAGIC MOTION remote control (which can be used as a cursor to guide and interact with virtual keyboard) provided with the unit which is very novel and fun to use (also show-off )
Practically picture quality is great in both of them. Technically, Samsung does not reveal its contrast ratio (supposed to represent blacker than black capability) of tvs, simply quoting "Mega Contrast" on all of them. LG one has 4,000,000:1, not bad i guess.
Also LG has IPS panel (In-Plane Switching) which decreases (if not eliminates) picture contrast difference and slight blurring when viewed at extreme angles. I didn't find any such particular mention of this feature on samsung listing.
AND the big difference is that Samsung 40D5500 has refresh rate of 50Hz and LG 42LV5500 has 100Hz which makes a big difference in viewing blur-free fast action videos!
Although Samsung website says it has "Clear Motion Rate" of 100 but i think Samsung 6000 series upwards have at least 100Hz or more ( coz i did a little bit research on amazon and these products as listed there too), so a bit of doubt lingers.
But Then, i gonna go for LG coz samsung doesn't have a magic motion remote and i think i can do without flash in the browser because youtube and other streaming apps are available anyways.
Also You can read user reviews of both products on amazon.com or expert reviews on cnet etc.
Hope that helped!
