@sajjad4joy: Many congratulations to you. A complete review with some pics of your new tech-toy is now much awaited. BTW, regarding the connectivity of your Altec, try connecting it through the headphone out as this might work. All the best for your TV and enjoy it to the fullest.

Thanks for that. I will try today with Headphone out....

Hi,

Got UA40D5500 for 58.3K. Loving the HD picture quality. I guess I need to tweak a little for a better SD quality. I actually tried the settings listed for D5000 but was not satisfied. was wondering if this tv would have a different settings (though i doubt coz the panel etc all are same, only difference being Smart tv feature).

I usually watch on Standard mode with back light set to 14. Appreciate if someone can help with optimal picture settings, both for SD and HD content.

USB plays almost all the formats nicely. Though i noticed some lag while browsing content on my 500 gig Transcend. Is this normal?
Also, while using USB source, some of the picture settings are not available.

PS - surprisingly, the in-built speakers are very nice and loud. Would be attaching to my AVR thru optical to hear USB content 5.1 audio.

Thanks!

Try the Natural Picture mode when watching high definition. You will find a remarkable difference. Standard mode is just fit for SD broadcasts. Dont increase/decrease the backlight in Standard mode. Just reduce the brightness from 50 to 40. you will find better results.

Yes, in built speakers are very loud and all formats play very well from usb... the picture settings available via usb are mentioned in the manual.

Thanks Dhiraj. Will try the settings. So nothing should be changed in Natural mode as well?
Should I change anything on Auto contrast and Dark level settings?

How about lag in browsing HDD content. Do you also experience it? My 4 GB pendrive works fine, btw.

No changes in contrast or dark levels needed imho; you can try reducing brightness in natural mode also to 40 if needed. I hardly use the usb as I have Playon HD DVR with 3TB HDD and I play files directly from it, hence cant comment on hdd issue; Although for random watching I have tried my 16gb pendrive and it works perfectly;

Has anyone been able to use the music playlist feature on their D5500. I'm not able to figure out how to add/use the playlist for audio tracks. Have searched around on the net and also looked at e-manual but couldn't find anything. Appreciate if someone can guide me here. Thanks!

hey, i'm surprised to find others here who have narrowed down to the same two models i did...i'm thinking of going for samsung too...i have a few questions...
1.is the smart tv feature in 5500 really worthwhile??how good is the wifi connectivity and all that??
2.do i have a choice on the panels??
3.are there any other brands offering good led tvs in the same price range that i should know of??i hear LG has a few good models with IPS panels...

Hello

I am amazed that I also narrowed down to Sony Ex520/ Samsung D5500 40" LED. This ensures that i am on the right track :)

My incline is towards Samsung D5500. But I am very confused with smart TV features. Will appreciate if someone can comment on my doubts as below

1. Are the smart TV able to open any of the websites with full features like search, videos etc?
2. How much memory these TVs have to store cached data or chat transcripts (in case of skype)?
3. Why wi-fi dongle is needed for wi-fi connectivity? Is it not built in TV itself?
4. Where to get this dongle and what it will cost?
5. Does these TVs has inbuilt web browser?

Will appreciate if someone can give indicative rates in Mumbai (navi Mumbai to be more precise) for Samsung D5500.

1 D5500 does not have a web browser,Sony EX520 does have a browser but no flash support(has seperate options for youtube etc.

3 Only high end models have built in wi-fi,you still have a wired RJ-45 LAN option.
4 Its should be available in dedicated samsung or Sony stores costs around 2k to 4k.The Sony dongle is optimized for videos i hear it has some sort of built in buffer.

Grey market prices are even cheaper in some places. This is just a grey dealer selling in the pretext of closing down showroom.

IN PQ, sony EX 520 is much better than samsung 5500.
I demoed 46 incher of these two models 2 days back.
Samsung showed high contrast unrealistic colour with significant ghosting. I dont find any advantage of added 100hz extrapolated refresh rate in samsung.I have initially decided to by samsung, but after seeing the picture quality, now I changed my mind. Sound quality no significant difference. sony has internet functionalities also.
