Why I despise Wharfedale

Wharfedale uses Kevlar diaphragms, the same material used in bullet proof vests, really difficult to tear. It is really surprising that such a thing could happen without misuse. Over excursion, possibly. The Norge amps didn't have speaker protection in the past however the DC protection prevents the voice coils from burning rather than the diaphragm damage which is rare without misuse. It could also be the mains supply of your house wrecking havoc with your electronics or your tone controls with the bass all the way up or the crossover in your AVR set up incorrectly.
this looks like its a case of misuse, no point blaming wharfdale or norge. Playing at full volume, bass high all the way up, sending some 25hz at high volume to a speaker that has a port tuned at some 40-50hz. its a recipe for disaster, most probably any amp or any speaker with similar specs would end up with the same result. Woofers usually give a warning before blowing up, they will be flapping real hard, thats your cue to reduce the volume. You can add all the speaker protection in the world you want, it wont help. You need to change your listening habits, if not for your speakers, then do it for your ears.

Your speakers are clipped because of AMP. I'm also suspicious of Norge. It may be possible that when you are playing at very high volume, the wire terminals at amp output shorted. This can happen if naked cores of wire terminal were shorted somehow in the amp output when you are playing the system. And Norge which I think does not have short-circuit protection, continued power supply and you also continued to enjoy wharfs till they are dead...
You said you were having a party, did anyone tripped over the wire, touched, children pulled the wires, or you were trying to reposition the amp/speaker while playing.....???
Whafs are sturdy speakers.... I have blasted my wharfs with 100 watts while they are only 50 watt continuous rms... nothing happened.

Give the OP the benefit of doubt, probably a faulty set of speakers. Pradski, my sympathies!
that dont seem to agree with ohms law. when there is a short, there is a 0 ohm path and an 8 ohm path, the 0 ohm path will suck up most of the current and hardly any current will pass to the speakers. the amp output stage will smoke due to supplying excessive current. the speakers should be unaffected.
Yes, In that case there is more chance to burn the amplifier's output stage.

I would like to apologize, as many have misunderstood, may be because of my bad communication. The rubber attachment to the kevlar are the ones which gave way. Not the kevlar themselves. So it is my mistake to have miscommunicated.
Norge and 9.2 had performed well with same kind of blast, previously.
9.6 and denon 2309 were played hardly and were well handled. My previous yamaha which were simple basic towers, blasted more than this, when I was eight years younger. They still are fine, around in my family.
May it is a bad piece or bad luck.
Is there a way, I can get those speakers replaced. I mean I just need the speaker, how and where to buy that particular speaker. Otherwise I will have to junk two towers for two speakers.

You can contact to Wharfedale or your local dealer (from where you purchased). If doesn't help.... contact any good speaker repair guy, fix them and use again.

Very very good quote!, many a time we over drive our systems and not know when to stop turning the volume knob south.
For example my technician who set up my home theatre in 2005 said my max volume is -13 db on denon AVR and that is where I have been sticking and god willing and touch wood everything is fine so far.
I guess there is a limit on all systems however expensive they are. Reduce volume when you hear distortation instead of music and if you want more, upgrade either speaker or AVR/amp as necessary.
Check with vector as to the speaker costs and post it here. I am sure FMs here can advise as to the next step forward.

Brand new Harman amplifier HK990 blew up. Literally smoke and fire and all! No shut down, the music was still coming out but could not risk running it. The previous unit has fan issues and the next one died on arrival. So I would stay away from Harman forever.
I hope this does not change your decision making about Harman as I just wanted to share my experience here.

Well, currently norge 1200 have spk protection built in.... not sure of norge 1000 though!

I think the reason for damage can only be given after proper inspection of your complete setup by a expert.
BTW you bi-amped your spekers or it was a normal connection? Also provide complete details like exactly which driver got damaged & whether it happened for same driver in both towers or different.
As already mentioned by FM members, these kind of failures would be very rare & we may have to suspect the amplifier & source for the damage.

I doubt if you can attempt this with a Norge integrated.
Bi-amping is possible in the Denon AVR 2309 which was used to drive the Warfedale 9.6
thats the surround thats damaged (rubber). if its just come off the kevlar, you just need to glue it back. if its torn, you need to replace it. there are guides etc on parts express that tell u how to do these. why dont u put some pics here
Worst case scenario you can stitch a bullet proof vest or banyan from the kevlar and recover the money
