War is something intrinsic to living beings and Everywhere when there are groups of living, sentient beings who can reproduce there is war.
eg Ants to Monkeys all go to war guess it can happen due to its in our nature to fight when we disagree along with our ability to work in groups and vested interests ( Political/social or economic)

You are right: I think all animals fight and kill at times for food, territory or mates.

But Only humans wage war over long periods and are capable of using weapons at long range and for mass murder and genocide.

Also only humans are capable of torture, extreme cruelty and taking pleasure in inficting pain

Not taking the side of humans but Ducks/dolphins and some others are known to inflict pain for pleasure including males forcing themselves on women and other men.

We have "evolved" the good and the bad to an extreme..maybe part of evolution and eventual decline ?

Hope so.
But the wars mentioned in the last sentence are still continuing as is the Ukraine war. As well as several other conflicts in Sudan, Yemen, Myanmar, etc
Taiwan and Iran are potential flashpoints. S Korea had an attempted coup two days ago. The military may take over Bangladesh if their situation deteriorates.
Mankind is doomed to never learn form mistakes of the past. Indeed many leaders seem to take these as inspiration and guidance
 
Mostly about egos, all momentous events in human history can be traced to this very basic of instincts in one way or another.
In more practical terms, War of course is diplomacy by other means.
