Moserw. it seems that you have virtually captured this thread like a 'Taliban'! Every day couple of posts without fail! How many CDs do you buy every day/week?

Just kidding please don't get offended.

No offense bro. Actually have been buying from my childhood/teenage years, religiously at least 2-3 CDs a month and sometimes going to 5-6 CDs a month. That's how have built my music collection over the years. Even now I make sure I pick up at least 2-3 CDs every month. That way it does not turn out to be too expensive and yet keeps adding to the collection bit by bit every month.

Vinyl is always better than a CD . If you find a LP of any of these recommendations consider yourself extremly lucky!

Last two titles in the list are only in CD format.

Call of The Valley EMI pressing is only on CD format but at present out of print but chances are you find it over eBay or similar sources. I have both these pressings and diffrence is like Day and Night!!

BTW, Pardon my ignorance, but how do you play LP ? Are there any LP players still available in the market ? I'm really curious. I thought the LP format died more than a decade ago in India.

Yup, very difficult to source them too. I have a winding type LP player that works great even now. Have music from the 60s and 70s on LP and they sound pretty good, in fact better than their "remastered" CD albums. But really quite cumbersome to wind up the LP player, put in the needle (sharpen with sandpaper if required) and so on. A PC beats it for ease of use any day, but one cannot really argue with audiophiles when it comes to SQ.

cd's are just way more convenient to use. to change a song on an lp is a mission - esp when you add a bit of alcohol to the mix

Yeah and also LPs are tough to maintain, they break so easily.

Where are SACDs available in Bangalore??

Though you won't find a lot of SACD's, depending on your luck, you could get the following at Landmark and other big music stores in Bangalore if you search for them:

The Police albums
The Rollingstones releases from ABKO (They would not be marked as SACD's but the ones in paperboard case are all SACD's)
Yellowbrick Road Anniversary edition
Roger Waters - The Wall, Live in Berlin
Pink Floyd - DSOTM

Also, if you are interested, Landmark had DVD-A's of Dead's American Beauty and Working Man's Dead as well as Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. If the Bangalore store do not have these in stock, you can have them source it to you from their other stores across the country. If I go there anytime soon, I'll let you know what I find...

my own compilation. he's one of those singers that has a huge target audience. listening to them takes me back to college. the recording was pretty bad though. quite a few of the songs were muddy and dull. recording from indian labels

over time, a lot of audio lovers have tried and compiled a list of say 10 CDs that they would like to take with them if marooned, or cut off from civilisation, etc.

so the concept.

there are a lot of such lists by various people on various forums.

a lot of ideas and suggestions come through owing to these.

For people looking for a new LP record player, I have some good news! There are more decent turntables available in India today than ever before.
Try out Pro-ject and Denon to begin with. These are the latest models globally. So dump your winding machines and go for one of these. It would be surely worth the money.

I believe the LP production stopped in India because the only factory producing it got burnt down, and no one started a new factory. Setting up a LP record manufacturing factory is very costly compared to buying a mass CD replicating machine. Most of the good English music is still released on LP records.
