Hi,

Every since my 3 yr Samsung 5 series 46 inc h LCD died, I have been looking for a replacement as Olympics is approaching fast. I had narrowed down to the Samsung 51E550 which has decent reviews. However when I wrote a complaint to the Samsung folks - they didnt even bother to call me and I was expecting them to throw me something like extended warranty for free on my new TV.

So now I have decided to go for the Panasonic 50UT50 which only seems to not have the black filter screen and wifi compared to ST50. Since the price differential is 25K+ between the two, I can live without those two.

I want people to help me find the best price (rajat in Delhi got 76K) for an urgent purchase this weekend. Please please help me out!!!

Buddy did you get a chance to demo either of these TVs, I could not find them on display here. If you can, that would be great...

Yeah - based on that only I have my eyes on the TV. But officially i was told it was still not available and till Diwali may quote closer to 1 lac...

I checked 3 times for the model 50UT50 (2012 series) and he said he will give it for 76k, 50XT50 for 65K and 50ST50 for 106K, even I was surprised since another dealer in another city offered me 87k (no negotiations yet) for 50UT50, 50XT50 for 61-62K & 100K for 50VT50 - MRP is around 100K for 50UT50 though.

So what do you guys think...

@rajatk Where did you get prices.

Where did you get the 50vt50 for 100k when the 50gt50 are 128k (115k after bargaining) and 50st50 115k (106k) respectively.

I guess 76k for 50UT50 is a good deal considering the price difference between 50UT50 and 50ST50. Initial reviews shows that the black levels in UT50 is much better than 2011 ST30. Note that UT50 is without any black filter and neoPDP. Still the performance is comparable to ST50. If anyone had chance to demo please post the comments..

Thanks,
Sunil

I guess there is no disagreement about the quality of this TV. Only thing pending is the price of this one..I have 76k Cash in my hand!!!

Even with no 3D glasses, no WIFI built-in?

Only difference from 50XT50 is Full HD, 2500 Hz - and price difference of 12-15k?

P50UT50D for 76k is a great offer. Cannot be beaten. Unless you want a better model, go with it.

I am still thinking if the picture quality difference bw UT50 & XT50 would be significant for its FHD, 2500 Hz and one should pay 15k extra for the same..

Wont 50XT50 @ 60-62K make a good choice here...?

Couple of things.

Firstly the price you are quoting no one else has discovered them. So I am hoping eventually we get those prices in Bangalore

Secondly I checked with few dealers here and most seem to say not all panasonic models are available yet

and lastly - not really sure what wifi does to a tv. My modem is 2 feet away from TV and I will be happy to plug my ethernet cable. Few things that may matter when compared to XT are:

1) XT is not full HD
2) UT has 2500 hz and fast switching phosporous - not sure what they mean but it might mean blur free fast motion
3) 3 things that ST has as per amazon site are - (a) 3d sound - I dont care since I have a home theater (b) Infinite black pro - from what I understand its only value is that in rooms with p lenty of light it works well..i can very well close doors and windows for that (c) Pro settings - I am not a pro and have no clue about calibration - in my 3 years with Samsung I a not even sure I would have changed brightness and contrast more than 2-3 times. So all the additional stuff that ST is givng over UT is practically useless for me.

but few things that UT has over XT seems to really matter even to a lay man. Also UT has got good review ratings from CNET.

Thats okay I have got quotes 10-20% less than MRP that is the norm in this industry (76K sounds gr8 for its 100k+ MRP for sure). Anyways coming back to comparison with XT50 you are preferring it because of FHD, 2500 Hz and the review on CNET and also it comes in your budget (75-80k)... best of luck for your search.

Dude arnprasad why dont you just buy the 51E550, its got built in wifi, smart tv, real black filter and so many other features. Even black levels are very very good because of the black filter !!

Few reasons:

(1) first my dead panel for some reason worked for two hours yesterday as per my family before going all white again - not really sure how this chamatkar happened.
(2) I spoke to our common friend at length yesterday and he too suggested that if I get the right Samsung guy at management levels - they will take my old panel and give a big discount like 30-40K on a new Samsung
(3) Samsung gives AMC on LED TVs but not Plasma - does not really speak much about their faith in their own TVs

Other wise I am already sold on 51E550 idea for 72-73K with Blu Ray - just need to iron out the above differences. Think you can help me catch a senior Samsung guy?

But the XT does not come with any glasses and panasonic glasses are 3-4K a pop

I received a call from Panasonic brand shop today (Baner Road, Pune). The representative said that P50UT50D is in stock now and will be put up on display tomorrow. The indicative price is 85K with 2 3D glasses (website says no glasses).

Pune shops are notorious on "no bargains" (???? ?? ?? ??, ???? ???? ??? (????)) attitude.

Check this out in your cities.
