Best DVD player iwth USB

I think performance of your HDD(USB 1.1?) could be an issue, Since i had the same problem when i was using older USB thump drive. Recenly i got new WD 1TB external harddisk(USB 2.0) and all the movies running fine, i mean no problem with FF.

I dont think even the HDD is a problem. Since the same issue is also there when I burn these avis on a DVD. I am unable to jump to a particular time in the movie. I am able to fast forward. That is not the issue, the issue is I cannot jump to a particular time.

not possible. WD has 5 years . U better check the website. Dont let the dealer take u for a ride.
The model which i bought is My Book Essential Edition and it has 3 years warranty as per wdc.com

Oh ok, i thought its FF issue which i faced with my older USB thumb drives.
BTW Is it possible to jump to particular time frame in other formats(DVD/CD video) apart from avi in 5996?

Hi,

Coming back to HDD Connectivity with Philips 5996, is it advisable to go for an 'HDD Working with a Power Adopter' or an 'HDD not having any power adopter and drawing power from the USB Port'. While an HDD With an Adopter is cheaper, the one with out it is more convenient. If it is possible to connect either of the 2, which should be preferred? Can the DVD Player provide enough power to the HDD through the USB Port for it to function flawlessly?

I am sure those of you who are using a connected HDD can clarify on this:)

Thanks in advance.

Most HDDs require to be powered independently as the DVD players may not ahve that much of a draw. It makes things a bit easier on the DVDPs as such. Same reason the PCs cannot read them if they are not powered independently.

My friend has a 5996, i have tested by connecting a Maxtor portable 250 gb hdd to the usb port it works fine, It draws power from the port and as it is USB2 never faced any issues only catch is that the hdd has to be formatted in fat 32 partition.

The same hdd does not work with my lg dv388 .

Hi Guys ,
I have a question here. I have a 5:1 HTiB from Sony, DAV DZ 100 , bought five years back and till now working fine. But at the same time it is lagging on new technologies. So I just want to replace my old dvd player from the system which can drive my 5 surround speakes and one Sub like my existing system is doing. It should have the maximum new technology adaptibility so that I can at least use it for next 3/4 years like Flash/USB Drive , divx format support , upscaling etc etc ... you know better. I have a PV08 and PS3 so want to have the maximum interface possible between these three. Can you please suggest .

I think its a DVDP/Amp combo (correct me if I'm wrong) so I don't think you can upgrade just the DVDP. With the PS3 you have a player that handles all formats. Go with an AVR with HD Audio and 7.1 speaker system, but obviously this will be expensive. For the time being you can connect the PS3 to the Sony HTIB if connections are present and permit it on the Sony HTIB.

Yeah I know that and have already connected my existing HTiB with PS3 and it is not doing bad. AVR/Speaker is already in my list but I need at least 3/4 months time to get rid off the PV8-PS3 thud :) , so just thingking if something cheaper can satisfy me for the time being.

Hi sanju moser is correct here. You really need to go for a digital avr . That way you can connect your ps3 as well as your existing DVD player. Now if your existing dvd player does not support upscaling what i would suggest you is to go for a new dvd player such as LG DV 388 or the Phillips 5996. This way you can connect your two dvd players and ps3 to one single digital avr without any hassles. if your budget is low you can go for entry level avr's which will drive your audio . I think the pv8 should have atleast 2 hdmi inputs. You can connect your ps3 and new dvd player directly to your tv using the hdmi cable. You will however have to connect the old dvd player using components/S video/Composites ( in order of best picture quality) and let your PV8 do the upscaling there. Hope this helps.

DZ 100 is partially outdated today snd do not have digital inplut - so unfortunatly complete change is needed

Dear Forum members,

At last I foun a forum which has indians discuss Music and Sound am I glad...

I am caught in a dilemma here. I did a lot of research on the net and thought of going in for the Samsung 1080PK, however when I reached the local Samsung dealership which claims to be a company owned retail outlet said that he has been asking for 1080 PK for more than 4 months now and it seems Samsung does not have them. The other HD models were not available either. Something that they call the Pebble which is a neat piece of design with black piano finish was the second option because I have a Samsung 37 inch LCD panel. However, visits to a few more stores also did not find the Samsung HD models.

However, a local store had 2 models in Philips with Full HD upscaling and HDMI Out, USB everything that I was looking for. The model names are

DVP5986K - Rs. 4000
DVP3996 - Rs. 3800

I was not able to gather a lot of info on these models from the outer box so I asked him that can I check the details on the net and come back tommorow.

When I checked the Philips India site both these models were not visible in the presently sold models.

What should I do. Should I keep looking for the 1080PK and buy that for Rs.5000 or just pick up the DVP5986K and be done with it?

Need some opinion here.

DVP-3996 doesn't upscale, but has all the bells ad whistles. If you need upscaling, go for DVP-5986 or if budget is not a constraint, consider Pioneer 610.

I have a DVP-3996 and have to say it met all my expectations so far. Bought a Pio-610 based on recommendations here, yet to set it up.

Samsung Pebble does not have usb so I find no sense in going for it.

Phillips model mentioned by you are old models. Please buy only Philips 5996 as it is a new and there are positive reviews for the same in this forum. Which city do you live in ?
