Can anyone pl give the comparison b/t Sony BDP-480 vs Panasonic BDT-220. I'm in search od BDT-220, but it is not available right now in mumbai. So thinking of Sony BDO-480. Thanks.

The latest model I think is S490.. which is really great enough. But if you are looking to make it region free, then better opt for Pana 220, which is also brilliant and can be made region free (for details look BDT220 thread by Kix).. BDT220 is not available in India as of now, but you can import from US.

Import from USA means extra money and a voltage converter separately required.

Importing from the US is much cheaper when compared to the price of the Sony player which is 13,990/-.

Panasonic 220 from the US - 8100
Region free firmware cost - 2500
Step down converter - 250

Total - Rs. 10850/-

Still you save about 3150/-, with region free player.

That is spot on. The MRP of DMP-BDT200 in India is 12,900/-. Hence importing works out much cheaper at 8,100/-. There is one more small expense the import route however - the Indian model package content includes an HDMI 1.4 1m cable. This is not the case with imports - so another Rs. 250-300 is to be added. This is inconsequential but expense all the same.

I guess you get Sony bdp-490 for below 10K if you bargain to dealer. Sony has excellent PQ, Pana should be having better sound.(burr-brown dac is available in a slightly higher priced pana, look for it)

S-490 should be available under 10k, I got it from ezoneonline under 9k with 2 BD movies and 1 Sony 3D spec plus HDMI cable. Still I think it is better to go for the BDT220, which is most desirable considering that it can be made region free.

Can you give me the site reference for this?

Sorry for going off topic.. did you get an ADDITIONAL 3D HDMI cable with this offer or the just one in the box? I bought the same deal & was under the impression they would give an additional '3D HDMI cable' as advertised.

When you say additional cable do you mean two cables? An HDMI 1.4 cable is 3D capable and is sufficient. AFAIK, no one gives two hdmi cables; many don't even give any hdmi cable.

What is burr-brown dac?

Burr-brown dac is digital to analogue audio signal converter. Burr-brown regarded high in audiophile world as dac.

Sony is the inventor of blu ray format. So Sony has distinct advantage.

If you are looking for high quality PQ and BD handling capabilities and decent audio, Sony would be the best option.

Panasonic gives you better sound. Somewhere in audiophile grade.

If you have high regard for audio, choose Panasonic.

I disagree with the above presumptions. Please read my review on Panasonic BDP. I own a Sony as well as Panasonic and the Panasonic is definitely a notch above in all respects, although i must agree that my Sony is slightly older. This view is also reflected in most reviews online by experts.

You maybe comparing apple to oranges.

Blu ray is a new format and no real conclusion can be derived at comparing 2009 model Sony with 2012 model Panasonic. It can only mislead readers. There must be several changes in 2009 model and new model Sony.

New Sony 490 does have excellent PQ and upscaling capabilities.

Anyway in audio part, burr-brown dac is impressive. Is this player have it?

I am not just comparing a 2009 player with a 2012 player. If you check reviews then you will see that DMP-BDT220 is ranked at the top even for pq in the mid range segment.

Hi. For bluray playback almost all players will have similar performance. What Sony does, Panasonic will do and other way round. Demo multiple players and you'll be hard pressed to find any difference. Sounds may be subjective with possible processing difference. Same goes for features and upscaling.

But the problem is that there is no Panasonic BDT220 model available to compare it with sony's model:sad:

if want region free capability go for pana 220 and import it.many members did it.no hassle.
if satisfied with C mchine...sony 490 is avilable around 8600 in e bay india, ezoneonline, indiatimes shopping etc..
i bought it 8528/- from indiatimes...
anyway as i dont own any bd and C is okay for me...but if you do have plan for collection go for pana 220 and import it.
sometimes a e bay india seller lists sony A 490 at around 8.5k...but no sony manufacture warrrnbaty..its a illlegally imported item in fact...3 month dealer warranty..can check it also..

After a long search the Panasonic BDT-220 is not available anywhere. Region free model is available in ebay UK site. But seller not sending it to India. Don't know why. Ebay Germany, not able to understand even after using google translator. Only main headline is being translated but all other things are in German language (think so). What can be the other option?
Can anyone pl tell how the world-import.com site? Has anyone experienced this site?
