Sony or Panasonic

You can import from USA by registering with iShopInternational. A few FMs have already done it this way. The player is much cheaper in USA. The only hitch is getting a voltage converter (220V --> 110V). However that is easy enough. You can buy a compact converter rated 50W from ebay (Rs. 275):

Voltage Converter 220 To 110V ( 20 Watt ) Transformer Based : Maxcon Brand | eBay

The problem is space constraint in my room, means if I import it from USA I'll have to add converter also. and there is not much place (I'm from Mumbai ). So it'll be great if it is possible to get the equipment ready for use in Indian even if it costs little extra. Do u have any idea if is it possible to get this from UK. all seller in Ebay are not sending to India:mad:. I'm planing to advice our Prime Minister to stop all business with UK for this . Jokes apart, pl give me some suggestion.

The converter is hardly any size. Click on the eBay link and check the photo. It is NOT a huge transformer - more so looks and feels just like a multi-pin adapter. I use the same adapter for my other BDP (Sony BDP-S360). I am also very much against huge transformers. Not only they occupy a lot of space, but collect dust, mites, moulds, cobwebs, etc.

The adapter simply plugs into your 220V socket and has an output for the converntional 110V socket.

p/s. I will advise you to import from USA for the following reasons:

- cheap (total cost including basic cost, shipping charges, customs duty and cost of adapter works to less than 9K, Indian player retails at 12k)
- fast delivery
- guaranteed delivery to India

What about 60Hz to 50Hz convert?

I edited the post later. I am using it for my Sony BDP (US make). It works fine.

Modern electronics do not use AC frequency for any purpose.

1. Do not buy open pack. EBay global easy buy prices include customs duty.
2. Method of making it region free: It is a rather elaborate procedure and cannot be discussed on forums. For a start look here: FirmwareInfo.com • View topic - Getting access to enhanced Blu-ray device firmware.

Thanks for the inf:.

As discussion goes on confusion increases. Sorry for that.
In the site given by you, there is something MAC address:confused:. What is MAC address? Where I can find it?
It's required for donation to the site. What amount generally donated and how it is done?
How do I know what firmware version is required?
A warning is given in that site: Installation and usage of our enhanced firmware happens at your own risk.:( What type of risk it is? If something goes wrong during update is it possible to revive that?

You may please go through the BDT special thread by kix

http://www.hifivision.com/blu-ray-d...orders/30344-panasonic-dmp-bdt220-review.html

all your queries are already answered there.. feel free to raise if anything is missing

I read it. I raised these questions after I read the site and these are not covered in the thread. I asked these questions because Ive never done any such thing before, so bit nervous by thinking that if after getting the 3d player from USA if Im not able to make it region free then what or if something goes wrong then what. I asked these questions in the form because there are many people may be like you who have already master in this. So it is better to get all the information before jumping in the water.

I agree.. still suggest to raise all the queries on BDT220 there as it will help others who might want to know these details.. in any case you might have missed that it has already been discussed there and the reply is in post #257 from SAKETB, reproduced below

"Go to Settings -> Player Settings -> Network -> Network Settings and you find the wired MAC address below.

You have to change the LAN Connection Mode to "Wired" and not "Wireless". There are 2 different MAC addresses for Wired and Wireless. What we want is the MAC for Wired.

You will find 12 characters combination like xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx, that is the MAC address."

Firmware upgrade process is smooth and trouble free. Of course, the website in question will not assume responsibility for any "cock up" from the user side. I have done it and so have many others. The process is extensively elaborate and I cannot discuss this here (it has been forbidden to do so). Ample information is available on the website:
