2011 Samsung Plasma 3D PS51D550

I just went to Devi International... They dont have that 1 piece on display... However had D490... Did review it for 5 mins... Brightness in 3D seemed better than Panasonic VT20 I saw last year... Picture was natural looking while LCD/LED LCDs were looking all saturated.. Very good aesthetic looks with slim design...

Overall I really liked the PQ and in 3D mode even 51" looked SMALL (they didn't have real 3D content, was watching Discovery HD). This aspect of small looking picture in 3D really bothers me... it make you feel that the TV is almost half its original size somehow :(

Colors were natural even in 3D which I really liked as the last year's model had very unnatural looking 3D colors..

Thanks for the review but we are all here for d550 not for d490 however i appreciate your efforts.

so you say there is no display unit for d550

Great,atlast a 3d feedback!!! dont know for sure...but does 720p(on 490) & 1080p(on 550) make any 3d size difference?...also from what distance u were looking?

if 3d does look small on 51" then how small it would look on 42-43 inches plasmas/lcd-leds etc...i fear to think abt the expectations of 3d wannabes...*i thought 3d on 51"would look great* ...but "half its original size in 3d" feels worrisome....still i think there is some proper picturesettings & sitting adjustments 2 b done for watching 3d properly!

Now finally how much reflective did u find the d490 screen was?
also any buzzing u noticed??

*btw, abhi,....d490 & d550 r quite similar pdps..hence feedbacks of d490 also seems valuable...but still a allround demo of d550 is very much expected....why dont the 1-2 handful owners of d550 come up with a detailed review...i'm still left wondering !

51 inch may look small in a show room

believe me and its going to be big in your home

i have 50 inch already

since shoq rooms are big in size, relatively u may not feel 50 inch as big :-)

does ur sammy buzz or has much distracting reflection..i know 6500 is upper model than 550...but still?...or any other specific problem....?

Actually all screens look relatively small when viewed in 3D... Picture settings can only help with the depth and focusing... No buzzing sound was heard (though it was not the quietest of showroom, still I put my ears besides the unit and still no buzzing was heard... Also, not much reflections were coming.. Similar to what we see in those "Ultra Clear" panel, just might be a tad more due to the glass screen... However brightness was quite good and LCDs were looking too bright and washed out with unnatural colors infront of the screen..

I owned two 46" 3D screens and can say from my experience that while 2D looks grand on these big screens, 3D looks TINY on them.. I was never interested in going above 40" as I prefer pulling my sofa within 3 to 4 feet while watching TV (my wife beats me for this every day :)) and even at this distance even tried putting my face about 2 feet in front, still 3D was not looking so envoloping as it should like in Movie Halls... For 3D we really need very large screen (probably 64" may do) as otherwise the experience is not as grand as it should be...

I took demo about 5 feet away from the screen... and yes, 3D was quite hazy on a 768p 51" screen... so for a proper 3D experience, we definitely need a Full HD TV...

ignore the buzz, its a non issue and owerblown one

c6500 has buzz but you cant hear unless its midnight and dead silent and u r few inches from TV :-)

c6500 has judder issue though

Here is small experience from another forum who owns this pdp he says
"I just received my 51D550 an hour ago. Initial impressions are how huge it seems compared to my old 40" LCD and how oddly light gray the screen is when the TV is turned off (very different material than LCD I imagine?).

That screen reflections in daylight aren't really much better or worse than my old Samsung M87, ie. acceptable for content without a lot of dark scenes, but I'll be saving the thrillers and dungeon crawls for night time.

That buzzing is quite loud on high contrast images (and almost absent on dark images), but unlikely to be heard at normal sound volumes, and certainly not when I use headphones as I do 95% of the time for gaming, movies and TV.

And finally that 3D looks quite impressive in Motorstorm Apocalypse on the PS3 and the 2D to 3D conversion didn't actually seem too shabby in the best cases either.
No apparent flickering annoyances, but the daylight seeping in through the window blinds behind me caused some rather obvious reflections at the outer edges of my SSG-3100 glasses. I'm planning on checking out the 3300 and 3700 as well.

I'm heading in to the city to see if I can find Resident Evil: Afterlife on 3D Blu-ray (the most impressive 3D showcase I've seen at the cinema), and then I've got a long night of experimenting ahead of me with games, 2D to 3D conversion tests and no doubt a whole lot of trips into the image settings on the TV ."

It's US (American) Model with same specs but doesn't work with your existing local cable operator moreover it needs a step down transformer as this needs 110v ac so if you buy this you should forget local cable but works with various dth services and for the price factor it is us$899 which comes to inr 40700 only so it is not worth it cos u have to buy another step down transformer which costs 4000

for proper 3d experience what you need is a projector, no tv can provide the immersive experience. so focus on 2d picture quality in tv's

Are you aware of a good 3D enabled projector? I am not aware of any unless you wish to watch Red Cyan 3D...

Also, I am still skeptical about projector's contrast and detailing performance even when it might give you that grand Cinema like 3D experience...

We can meet tomorrow.. My contact has not called back till now.. I will call him to check availability tomorrow.. We could meet in the afternoon tomorrow.. or else I suggest we wait till next week for stocks to be more available to get better pricing...

Hello! Friends,
yesterday I bought 51d550 for Rs.67.5K here in Hyderabad. So far, I watched SD content (normal cable transmission) and some dvd's on my LG BD player. The SD quality is quite acceptable on such huge screen! Yet to try 3D and HD content. Reflection is not a problem while watching tv. When it is switched off, we can see some glare. I am using the standard setting only and did not try any adjustments.
