(4)Cost of glasses
(5)Does it Have problems of crosstalking.

I believe its HDMI 1.4 without ARC on any port (D8000 has ARC on one HDMI port).

Yes it support 2011 BT glasses

Cost of glass is about Rs.4k+ currently (can get in lesser cost through negotiation).

When you say "problems of crosstalks", they exist in ALL current 3D platforms. Its least in LG Cinema 3D and other Polarized 3D we see in current Cinema. However polarization reduces the displayed resolution by half as compared with 3D BR Frame sequential format used by Samsung (though LG claims through a firmware upgrade to have implemented Frame Sequential type doubling the scanning rate through polarisor if we disable 100/200Hz feature - not sure how effective it is).

I auditioned 51D490 few weeks back and had posted my comments on 2D to 3D converted 3D then. Probably due to converted video, I did not see much cross talks and the major thing I noticed was significant improvement in flicker and light pass through. Flicker and luminance (and hence strain was comparable to LG Cinema 3D I auditioned with it) so there is no significant benefit other than cheap, no frills polarized 3D glasses on Cinema 3D. However, I believe it may compromise the 3D resolution and also even 2D PQ due to the polarization layer present on the TV screen (I could not do side by side comparison). I would still prefer LG Cinema 3D as even I feel its a more sensible technology than Active Shutter glasses, however the cost difference do not justify as Samsung D550 will ALWAYS produce better PQ at a much larger real estate!!

Hence, as of now Samsung 51D550 is BY FAR the BEST BUY for me even as compared to those Panasonic (somehow even if I get VT20 at a similar price range to D550, I would still prefer Samsung as VT20 has significant luminance loss in 3D, hardly play any movie format through USB, looks UGLY and OLD FASHIONED as compared to D550). Infact, I prefer the looks of D550 than D6400 with Silver Gray Bezel and that TERRIBLE QUAD CHROME STAND (I just can't stand BOTH QUAD design and GAUDY CHROME finish which only looks good at the showroom).

I just checked - JUST Rs.49990 for 51D550 without any goodies... Its certainly a great price for me... Let me know if anyone is interested. We can bill from virtually any dealer in Bangalore, however need to be discrete as the Samsung sales person has to be kept hidden :)

Thanks for you post, i'm planning to purchase the TV in hyderabad, cud u let me know it if i can get the price you quoted above or i can buy for that price in bangalore by driving in. Can i know how the TV performs and does it play 3D via USB ?

Hello! Friends,
I am back in town. Now anybody in and around Hyderabad willing to demo the tv in place, are welcome! As I don't know much about the technical details, I may not be in a position to write a good review. What I wanted was a big and decent quality screen and I hope I got it. I have a bluray player but no discs, lots of dvd's. You guys are welcome to bring your stuff to test the tv to your satisfaction.

Thanks for the Invite, i stay in hyderabad-Tarnaka. where can i come and look for the demo.I would be glad if you have a 3D content for the demo.

Hehe, that price was some confusion with my contact. He had later apologize and suggested that I was asking for 40D550 :D

Currently we have a GB offer going as per another thread for 63K with 1 3D glass.

You could check this thread for more on best pricing we got across India: http://www.hifivision.com/television/18193-best-price-2011-samsung-plasma-3d-ps51d550.html

1. i confirmed that the model has hdmi 1.4 version
2. audio return circuit is present inside but will not be activated default.. any one who knows to open service menu can activate it((( this was said by my service friend but... he too need to be confirmed)))
3.all 2011 models have blutooth glass only----- all are rechargable.for each recharge can watch 50-60 hrs.
4. ((guess work only ..)) cost supposed to be 9500 for a pair.. no single glass available and no changable battery operated one is available..
5..cross talk is around 80% LESS THAN INFRARED>>40% LESS THAN PASSIVE 3d.
6. model is new.. so less preview and reviews available..
to add panasonic is one of the best tv makers.. they chose the way for active 3d.. so i beleive active 3d will be superior than passive and

next generation 3d will be glass free.. it will take 2015-2018 for affordable..

conversion of audio to mp3 and vcd to dvd was quicker than dvd to bluray because most of the people are happy with dvds especially when dvd can store divx 8 movies..
thats why blu ray still costly...
similarly active 3d - passive 3d to glass free will be at premium price for next 8 years..
too long for anyone to wait.....
so decide u want active/ passive.. samsung/lg....
iam with samsung because
1. quality of componants better than lg
2. economy
3. love to watch 3d and tv in sleeping position... tv is in bedroom (PASSIVE FAILS MISERABLY IF UR TV IS VERY CLOSE)
4. since less content available via torrent/ free.. my 3d view will be less so active is cheaper to go for at present..
but
1. lg service backup is good, better than any including sony available all over
2. lg cost of service is cheaper, annual maintainace contract up to 5 yrs available
3. clarity of lg is better than samsung.. samsung looks dimmer(((REVIEWS)))
4. good for games - passive glass
5. lg got double the features than samsung including magic remote, web browser, internet tv, etc...
but in india 2 gb costs 700 rs. approximately for 3g tech... which will be used up in two hours of streaming..
i cant afford to spend thousands of rupees in streaming content can and will buy bluray 400 rs/ dvd 40 rs instead..
will take 5-8 years for 3g/4g to be cheaper.. expect soon if congress gets out of central govt .. congress loots india..useless people..
but of course
despite of all advantages lg has its quality of build is like china dvd player.. shiny outside,, superb performance but less durablity.. so i vote samsung......................
ur preference matters.. u cannot see demo
(((((reason:::: TV AVAILABLE BUT NO 3D PLAYER, if both there then no 3d glass.. if all 3 there then no true 3d content... thats india .. i quote a tamil saying ""when ever i see dog i find no stone and when i find stone no dog)))

.. but just listen to what ur heart says and decide....

Dude, very good writeup and summary. Some clarification/corrections:

BT 3D glasses currently available in India are mostly the ones similar to last year's BASIC non-rechargeable. They also look identical to last year's model. So the only demo I took was also non-rechargeable one with CR2025 button cell in it! Also, Rechargeable glasses do not last for 50 to 60 hours and usually have usage time after full charge of less than 10hours as I am aware (not 100% sure).

I found clarity (rather I should say colors) of Samsung 51D490 to be better than LG 42LW5700 I auditioned. I believe 51D550 being Full HD Plasma should have much higher quality.

You do get SBS 3D content EASILY on internet/torrent sites. So 3D is ample. Also, if you have a HTPC, almost all the games released in the last 10 to 15 years are 3D TV compatible using third party applications (like nVidia 3DTV Play, iZ3D drivers).

LG Cinema 3D has 90ms input lag. So not good for fast-motion games (firmware update may solve it).

Thanks for the info. I was looking for input lag of 51D550 and till now haven't come across any info. I would appreciate if someone could enlighten me.

1. i meant 1080p full sequence hd contents are rare...
2. rechargable blurays are no more manufactured.. only old stocks cleared because of lg promotion which says passive glass are lighter,, they are promoting only light weight glasses both are recharable one is stylish , slim, other type one is available in black and red color similar to normal eye glass....
3. thank u for updating about games,, i love them but since i dont get time to play had no knowledge of availability...surely will look for the games u said..

When I was searching for 3D content online, I came across " 1080p/720p Anaglyph" across all the torrents. My question is, if I download this and play it in a 3D TV (Samsung Plasma D550/D490), will I be able to get the 3D effect out of the video?

I am sure a passive TV like LG won't play this Anaglyph. I'm confused regarding the source of 3D since the technology of display is different. Kindly clarify.

Even I would like to play retro 3D Anaglyph on 3D TVs, however they are not yet able to convert them to 3D TV format (like other 3D formats like SBS, TB, Interlaced). None of the current 3D TV can decode Anaglyph 3D and you would need those cheap Anaglyph 3D glass (Red - Cyan) to see them even on a 3D TV.

Thanks alot drkavint, for that superb post, you actually mixed tech & politics together, although its not a nice mix.But thats our INDIA.mera bharat mahaan.well back to business,i read in the specs that d550 has 2d to 3d conversion.can you put some light on that, and how good is it in converting 2d.i read in the lg lw6500 thread that 2d > 3d is not so great. Thanks

iam replying to ur post by mere guess in layman term...
1. i personally feel that the effect of 3d can be classified as 1.jumping out of screen as if its hitting/ reaching around u.
2. depth of picture....

real 3d i saw both effects but in conversion 2d to 3d....only the depth effect seen...

i find conversion in lg better... but as discussed 3d is still premium content....
some like to watch 5 movies compressed in 1 dvd.. some want dts 5.1 single movie dvd..
my choice is to keep 3d only for true content than watching pseudo conversion.. thats why i took active 1080p 3d than 540p passive..

Finally my Samsung is installed. Saw Airtel HD TV today and was blown by the imaging capability of the TV. Movies Now HD was absolutely Drool Stuff..

sorry guys.. Very bad news. After working for 4-5 hours it developed a Black Vertical band on right half of the screen. Called up a samsung engineer and he told me that the tv would be replaced in 8-10 days. My Bad luck. will upload pics of the band today.. ;'(

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
