2011 Samsung Plasma 3D PS51D550

sorry guys.. Very bad news. After working for 4-5 hours it developed a Black Vertical band on right half of the screen. Called up a samsung engineer and he told me that the tv would be replaced in 8-10 days. My Bad luck. will upload pics of the band today.. ;'(
Hope it was not one of the 2nds stock as I am told that there are several dealers selling them ("Yesbee Electronics" is a classic example - selling defective stock of all brands and leaving us with Manufacturer's warranty claims).

Indeed it is very sad shocking news. Something basically wrong some where.

Stay away from Yesbee, I completely second prankeys comments. I was lucky enough to get my refund from samsung.

OMG, it is really shocking and sad news:sad:...Hope you get the brand new replacement soon...

If it goes bad within 6 days of installation. They replace the whole TV ;)
You can get brand new even after that based on the problem or your insistence through escalations (if you are unhappy). They can even give full refund if you have doubts or are unhappy with the purchase practically anytime within 1 year! Its even written in their warranty terms :)

Hi Guys,
My first post on this forum... Picked up a 51D550 last week. Here's my initial impressions

Positives : - Excellent value for money
Excellent colour decoding and colour accuracy. Probably the best in the
market
Screen uniformity is excellent. No Image Retention. No buzzing. No
noticable floating blacks or fluctuationg brightness (unless you deliberately
intend go looking for them)
Picture processing and motion response is good

Negatives : - Screen is VERY reflective
Clips whites and crushes details in bright scenes. Glare in high light areas
Low light shadow detailing is poor. Crushes details in low light areas
Gamma is average to poor. Contrast and dynamic range is average
Black levels are decent without being great
Sound quality is poor. Non defeatable edge sharpening is present

Waiting for the set and the phosphours to run-in to see if the above improves or if a firmware update fixes the above issues

Right now would recommend this set for the cost consious customer but certainly not for videophiles or discerning customers

Just got the 51D 550 installed.will definitely post pics and my detailed review to the extent I understand plasma features / technology.
Got for Rs 67500.

However if my fellow members could guide me on the first few days settings on different parameters of this plasma tv, I indeed would be grateful.

Cheers

Congrats.....Was a 3D glass also included in that price?

How would u compare this with panasonic v20

I don't think it is fair to compare a 68k Plasma with one that costs more than twice that.
In any case here goes :-
For colour accuracy, picture and motion processing, and brightness samsung is better
For Sound quality, Black levels, shadow detailing and Gamma (with a few shifts) and less screen reflectiveness, the Pana is better. You also get more features like Skype.

Overall value for money Samsung beats the Pana hands down anyday

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
