my idle hands did some research and found a new Panny on the block - VIERA TH-P50X30D.

Its not Full HD and 3D but at a price of 58K seems a good buy being a new model and all. Can the experts here do a quick comparative review of features and let me know if the product is not too way off ? And its supposed to be with a 3 year warranty as well !!

Appreciate the help as I've to take a call on this tomorrow as the local dealer who's managed to get some stock of Samsung product wants an advance since stocks are limited.

Did you upgrade the firmware? Do you know any difference from the stock firmware?

The remote does not have a back lit facility, but , there is a 3D dedicated button.

Plan to take few pictures on sunday thru my proper DSLR camera and post them .

As regards firmware upgrade, trying to ascertain as to what all changes have been made, and probably then go in for the upgrade ( my stock ver is 1013, latest ver is 1016)
Any other info that you desire do let me know.

Thanks for the info. Did you get any 3D glasses? Also, can you try to play some high bitrate mkvs (more than 10GBs)? I just noticed in the manual that the max supported bitrate is 10mbps in this year's model when last year it was 25 to 30Mbps!!! This can cause issues with higher bitrate near BR quality Full HD rips if its true.

1. No 3D glasses ( plan to buy at least one pair, soon, the best price quoted is Rs 3900/-)

2.Will try playing a 40 GB blu ray rip , on sunday and would then mention , the outcome .

As i do not have a 3D player i tried just the 2-3D conversion it was ok we can enjoy the depth and the shadows but not like the actual 3d which we watch at the theaters. did a conversion on the xbox fifa 11 game was amazing to play.

You guys need anything else?

Thanks for the snaps dude. Arms of these glasses are very fragile (though carry 1 year warranty for breakage), so do handle them with care and use the supplied cloth to clean it lightly.

You could get the 2025 batteries from SP Road at Rs.5 to 10 only (though duplicate maxel ones, should work fine at that price point).

2D to 3D conversion works best on Animation and Games. Scenes with a lot of graphics can also benefit from it (some news channels).

You should seriously look for an HD DTH connection (you could upgrade to TS HD or TS+HD or take the Dish HD coupon from Devi).

ok, one thing i completely forgot is i want to sell off my Dish Tv TruHD coupon which i got along with this tv.....selling it because i already have a Dish Tv TruHD connection for this tv running the Hd channels. So NO Need of this for me....if any1 interested can contact me!

i got my d51d550 on 25th .the t.v is really awesome
i got a price deal of 70,000 with one 3d glass
after long wait i got this monstrous plasma but their is something that i noticed on this t.v and that is brightness pop
did any of of u guys faced this problem
and to be precise i have connected this t.v on my p.c through hdmi ps3 and xbox 360
but the most brightness pop i got are mostly on my pc.
