hi
i got my d51d550 on 25th .the t.v is really awesome
i got a price deal of 70,000 with one 3d glass
after long wait i got this monstrous plasma but their is something that i noticed on this t.v and that is brightness pop
did any of of u guys faced this problem
and to be precise i have connected this t.v on my p.c through hdmi ps3 and xbox 360
but the most brightness pop i got are mostly on my pc.
You should switch off Dynamic contrast and energy saving modes. Plasmas REDUCE brightness when displaying whiter colors on screen (typically when you run PC, if you open a Window with white background). Hope you are not talking of that brightness reduction which happens on all the plasma TVs and is one of its drawbacks.

Congratulations on yr new TV, two checks from my side to resolve yr issue:

I hope you have changed the settings from shop mode to home mode, and secondly do you "still" get the white bright screens / brightness pop when you are on the TV / dvd / blu ray mode

Siddhartha, try going to service menu and out without changing anything (it resets the picture even beyond regular reset). Use PC and see if that fixes the issue. If it has, you could go back to the service menu to change the TV model to D7000 or so to enable 10 point White Balance and try various calibrated settings available on the Internet and see which one you prefer most :)

Let us know if going to service menu and back fixes the brightness pop issue.

Will PS51D550 recognize a Samsung HDTV Skype Webcam? Can you enable any Smart TV features on this Samsung Plasma? Like Skype, Twitter, ... etc.

I don't think it can. However you could buy a 2011 or 2010 BR players for using features other than Skype.

Hello guyz, this is my first post into this forum. After going through each and every post of this ongoing thread about samsung 51 inch plasma, I bought this TV from delhi. I connected it to my LAN, and also upgraded its firmware and also was able to stream videos from my computer. But on the first day itself after a few hours of usage a thin laser like line appeared on the left half of the screen right from top to bottom. I called the engineer and he says the panel is gone and will be replaced. He says it may have happened due to voltage fluctuation. Anybody has any idea about this. I also searched on google and found that this problem happens with all plasmas, but on some it appears early whereas on other it may even take 1 or 2 years. Also the samsung engineer told me that there an added protection for this in the samsung LED range of tvs but in plasmas it not there (probably another reason why its so cheap). But still I put my hard earned money to get it and now this kind of problem will always keep me tense.

It happens with many Plasmas. I had similar on PK550 last year and got the set replaced. You should do the same instead of replacing the panel only.

Yeah, i meant the whole tv would be replaced. But if it happens out of warranty then the repair cost is the cost of a new panel, somewhere around 40-50k according the the samsung engineer.

Guys Ive had this plasma for like 4 days, and while its picture quality blows me away theres one issue which I just cant solve.

I cant connect my computer to it through hdmi. I got the wire specially put through the ceiling to the other side of the room for this purpose and its a real bummer that the tv doesn't even recognise the hdmi connection.

I tried putting my blu ray through the same cable and it worked and I connected the comp to a short cable which the blu ray was using and it still didnt work.

Im using windows 7, and the onboard intel hd graphics. any ideas?

I notice plug and play is greyed out in the menu, what is that?

Just check at the back panel theres 1 HDMI port marked as PC in. Just try that port. Also in you Computer it could be single display selected under graphics properties, try changing that setting.

Its plugged into that port. And on the comp there is no option to change it to 2 displays.

I had similar problem with my panasonic, the tv works with its native display setting only. so adjust the display to native resolution of the plasma and then reboot with the plasma connected, are you trying dual display?

My pc is connected with the dvi-vga converter and the plasma on hdmi. Ive tried changing it to 800x600 and rebooting, I think the tv was connected at the time. But to no avail.

There is no dual monitor option, when I go to the graphics properties it shows only single display. Any help would be highly appreciated.
