2011 Samsung Plasma 3D PS51D550

Where can I see a demo of this TV in Bangalore? Most shops, including Samsung showroom in Forum Mall, doesn't have a display piece.

Hello everyone,

I am confused between two TV's (Samsung PS51D550 and LG60PZ550).

Listed below are viewing scenario:
1. 15 ft viewing distance
2. I want to place the TV between 2 windows - the space available is 5 feet
3. Price - iam fine with spending a lakh rupee for my tv.

Its tough to get a demo for now till we get ample stocks. Currently only 4 to 5 pieces are coming to Bangalore and are given directly to people who have booked. By the end of this month we should get good quantity. By tomorrow most probably I can get 2 through Samsung 1 is already booked, another might be available if someone from Bangalore can participate and pay immediately through group buy.

What is the price you are getting for PZ550? If considering 3D, bigger is better. However I am unsure of picture quality and 3D performance on LG. Samsung performs very well (could be the best for 2011) in terms of overall 3D performance and 2D performance on a VFM Plasma.

15 ft distance is fine for a 51" TV if you mostly watch HD.

Check the dimensions on respective LG and Samsung sites.

Samsung is definitely fitting your budget even with 3D starter kit.

hi prankey, stocks will arrive bangalore monday or tuesday evening....coimbatore on wednessday...hope it reaches me friday.......

15 feet distance is quite high for a 51" TV. I view my 50" TV from approx. 11 feet and it looks quitte small to me. Bigger is almost always better.
I completely agree dude. Some folks complain about blurred SD picture even at that distance so commented accordingly :)

Welcome back. I PM'd you long back, let me know if you read that.

I bought the TV just recently and I am very happy with it. The reflection doesn't bother me that much, because the tv is placed exactly right in my house, so that minimizes reflections. I will post a few pictures as wel:

The blacks could be a bit better, but for the price this is more than decent. This set is a steal at this price. If you can live with the reflection (or place the TV strategically), than this is the set to get.

Dj41 - Thanks for sharing the snaps. I see bluish tint on Avatar screenshots, seems you need to calibrate based on suggestions on AVSForum

No I haven't. It seems there are problems with HDMI outputs when you do this. I'm going to read some more about it and will most probably attempt this next weekend, when I have some time on my hands.

@prankay,

You can notice the bluish tint from pics posted , wow bro you have some eyes;). For me avatar was a bluish movie all along .... Now I know whom to reach , for calibrating my new TV and notice tints... :):D

These ARE the AVForums settings. :-)

I am not sure if the settings are the same but prankey was suggesting the avsforum and not the avforum.

There is a hack that essentially allows you to go to system menu and modify the settings to make this a 6 series plasma (pro settings).

So it would be interesting to know if post that too you get this picture.

People here have done it and haven't encountered such issue. Nevertheless, max it does is to change the HDMI number and 1 HDMI port may not work (probably as higher end models have ARC when D550 do not).

Best is to take snapshots of current service mode settings and keep them in safe custody and THEN play with service mode as you wish. This is what I did with my current TV and unlocked many things (like choosing Warm1 or Warm2 color profile in Dynamic and Standard modes and also able to permanently change calibration settings in the service mode itself) ;)

Haha, anytime. Avatar had a lot of blue images, however other than some sequence, they still looked neutral and close to D65 levels. Particularly the later snaps or Avatar should not have this much blue (could be from the camera).

I love optimizing a device or software to the max for our benefit. This is the reason why I get furious about DTH operators messing with settings (like audio volume, DRC, Fake 5.1) and butcher the experience due to THEIR INCOMPETENCY! :indifferent14:

HI.

I also have this TV, had it for about 5 days. I just want to know if your picture is also grainy from close up? Even for 1080p content.

hi,no grainy picture either on sd or hd chanels.
Are you getting grainy picture while watching thru the HDMI ports also?

Only grainy from very close (30cm or less). Looks like the pixels are flickering. I'm not sure if it's just plasma "dithering"?

yeah, that's MOST probably it,...i also get the same sometimes from "extreme" close quarters,...but that's LEAST a botheration from any other normal/close distance where i watch tv!
